Hiring a doula was very important to me when we found out we were pregnant with our 2nd child. I wanted to do everything to increase my chances of a successful VBAC. At my intake call with TBC, I had been seeing a provider who was giving me some red flags. They heard AND validated my concerns about my provider and that night followed up with an email listing some VBAC supportive providers. Upon hire, they answered texts and questions throughout my pregnancy quickly. At our prenatal visit (34 weeks) we got to talk about my first birth experience, our wishes for this birth, and learn exactly how they would support us in those final days and on birth day! When labor started, it was Austin who answered my 1am phone call. Austin helped support me via text as I labored at home for as long as possible. When we pulled up to the hospital after a 40 minute very painful car ride, Austin greeted us at the sidewalk and immediately started giving counter pressure. I was admitted at 5am at 5-6cm and my sweet baby girl was born at 8:19am. Those 3 hours brought a LOT of pain, questions, and confusion. Austin was always one step ahead. Before I could say I needed a change she had suggestions. She coached on positions, breathing, pain relief, and helped us weigh all decisions. When it was time to push, Austin had prearranged the bed for me to push in a position that best matched how I was laboring. Not only did I get my VBAC, but I got an unmediated VBAC! I cannot imagine writing that sentence without Austin in the equation. Side note: birth photography was never something I had considered. Boy was I wrong. Our photos are something I will cherish for the rest of my life. TBC has my overwhelming gratitude and recommendation for anyone considering.
