I had a natural birth in the hospital at OSF in Bloomington Illinois. Being a first time mom, Marcia was helpful to me during the pregnancy journey, labor, and now post partum.
There were so many things that I loved about having a doula! First, she was there to help me process what things I wanted in a birth and what was going to be available to me at the hospital. There are a lot of things that happen during labor at the hospital that I would not have been prepared for without talking it over with Marcia first. It was helpful to know what my rights were in the Hospital. Second, she came to my home to help me labor when I needed it. She lives in Peoria, so she was on the phone with me for the hour drive and helped talk me through the contractions. I was so thankful for that. Third, she was hands on during my labor. I was a former College athlete who has always been coached through hard things in my life. I knew that I would need a coach by my side the entire time during labor. Marcia was awesome at coaching me and my husband through this. Fourth, she was with me the entire time at the hospital. Your nurses come and go and your doctor is barley there, so it is nice to have a doula that will be with you the entire time suggesting ideas on how to progress labor with different positions and coaching my husband on how to support me as well. Fifth, the ability to help during labor and give my husband a break was awesome. I had a long labor and my husband truly appreciated having her there especially during the check-in process and assisting with compressions during labor. Lastly, she was a helpful resource to have after birth.
I am so thankful to have had Marcia apart of one of the most important days of our lives. Couldn't recommend her more!
