Justine was an integral part of our redemptive birth story with our second child. My first birth was a traumatic emergency c section where I was put under general anesthesia. This left me and my husband weary and distrustful of healthcare providers.
In planning our second delivery, I wanted to be careful with who I worked with. From the first meeting, Justine built trust immediately and helped us deliberate which hospital and which provider to work with. She helped us choose an amazing OB who actually listened to my story and provided valuable individualized care.
In the last month of my pregnancy, I encountered a few risks but I was not comfortable opting for a routine c section. Justine was a tremendous support in walking us through the impact of our decisions in the hospital setting and what we could expect.
When I went into labor, she ensured that we were not pressured into any decisions and served as a valuable intermediary between us and the medical team when needed. Justine advocated for us and made sure I was well taken care of especially when it became clear that I would need a c section. She was compassionate and a reassuring presence as I worked through the anxiety of experiencing another c section. As a result, this experience was completely different. The whole medical team seemed dedicated to making sure it was a positive experience.
With our firstborn, my husband and I left the hospital feeling broken. This time, we went home with so much peace and calm. We largely attribute this to Justine’s role and we will always be so grateful.
