Asking Abrye to work as my doula was the best thing I could've done across the delicate and transformative timeframe between expecting, labor and postpartum. This was my second pregnancy, and I recognized that I spent most of my time and energy focused on the pregnancy and labor aspects with my first, and not enough time was dedicated to mentally and physically preparing for the postpartum period, which is arguably the most intense of the three. I also realized how influential each phase was on the subsequent phases. So the second time around, I wanted to apply my learnings and Abrye was the perfect solution. Her talents confluence perfectly into this role, between her chef, breathwork and childcare skills alongside her innately calming and empathetic nature. She supported my final stages of pregnancy with the practical side of things including meal prep, dog walks and toddler entertainment, while also catering to my spiritual and emotional needs during this anxiety-provoking time. We'd talk through my goals, my hopes and my fears, allowing me to conjure up images and affirmations that I could manifest and use as tools during labor. Once labor began, she created an environment perfectly suited to soothing me and keeping my oxytocin levels stable and rising, such as providing welcomed touch, music and lighting. Her heightened awareness of surroundings also allowed her to work seamlessly alongside my husband to keep me comfortable and calm. This second labor was the most empowering experience of my life because I felt so deeply prepared and supported. Abrye was also present in the postpartum period, ensuring I was nourished with thoughtfully crafted meals, more dog walks and toddler entertainment. I was able to truly feel present and in a safe bubble with my newborn, without any pressure to leave or do anything other than recover and tend to my baby - all else was covered.
