Jackie and the District Doulas team are amazing. Right after my daughter was born, I said to Jackie, "I couldn't have done it without you." She immediately responded, "Yes, you could have, but I'm glad you didn't have to." That sums up our experience perfectly.
Jackie gave us the knowledge and confidence to navigate the unknowns of childbirth, and I can say for certain that my birth experience would have been entirely different without her support during labor and the District Doulas team throughout my pregnancy.
During early labor (which started very early in the morning), Jackie guided us through pain management techniques and helped us assess how far along I was (which was tricky since my contractions were fairly irregular). Without her expertise, we likely would have gone to the hospital much sooner than we wanted to. But with Jackie’s support, I was able to labor at home until I truly felt ready. When we arrived at the hospital, I was already 8 cm dilated!
At the hospital, my labor stalled quite a bit, and Jackie helped us strategize ways to get things moving with minimal interventions. My husband and I were very prepared for the birth (thanks to District Doula classes) but in the moment—with so much happening—we would have been lost without Jackie’s guidance. She even taught the nurse techniques for helping the baby into an optimal position!
Throughout my labor, Jackie helped us make informed decisions. She approached every crossroad with a calm, respectful, and collaborative demeanor, fostering a strong relationship with my labor nurse and OB. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had her by our side and she has also been an invaluable resource as we navigate these first few weeks of parenthood. If we’re lucky enough to have another child, we will absolutely want Jackie with us again!
