Elsie was our backup doula. Our main doula, Martha Snyder, was going to be out of town at the beginning of my 38th week and she introduced us to Elsie in case I happened to go into labor while she was away. And of course, I ended up having to be induced right before Martha left, so Elsie stepped in seamlessly! My labor lasted for 3 full days, and Elsie was an amazing help throughout all of it! She stayed in frequent contact with both us and our main doula before joining us in person during the first day of labor. I was having a difficult time with the labor and having her there to support both me and my husband was such a morale boost. She offered ideas for progressing the labor, supported us in staying hydrated and comfortable, and helped with pain management during contractions. She was attentive to my needs and mental state and helped me make my own decisions as we came to various choices during the long labor. Ultimately, the labor was so long that our main doula returned and took back over for the very end of the birth, but Elsie's help was invaluable during this whole process. I would work with her again in a heart beat.
