Martha was an amazing help leading up to and during the birth of my baby. The meetings with her before the birth were very informative and helped me feel more prepared and a little less scared of the labor process. I used the Carrot benefit, and going through the Carrot process with her was smooth. She was planning to be away right at the beginning of my 38th week and introduced me to another doula, Elsie Walles-McConaughey, as backup in case I went into labor. She gave us all of Elsie's contact info so we could chat with her beforehand and get to know her just in case. And of course, I unexpectedly had to be induced right before Martha left! Martha visited me on my first day in the hospital right before she left on her trip, set me up with a bunch of pain management techniques and tools, and started a text chain with me, my husband, the backup doula, Elsie, and herself. Elsie was an amazing help during my long labor, so fantastic pick on Martha's part. Martha also stayed in regular contact with all of us via text throughout the labor, checking in on how we were doing and offering encouragement. Knowing both she and Elsie were there for me and my husband was a huge morale boost. Also, the tools that Martha left with me were incredibly helpful with pain management during contractions. I was in labor for 3 full days, so Martha was able to return and join us in person toward the end of the third day. During the final moments of labor when my daughter appeared stuck and everyone in the room started scrambling, Martha was a solid, calm presence that kept me from panicking and got me through the last push. The birth was long and full of unexpected twists and turns and having both Martha and Elsie supporting me through it made a scary experience much more manageable. Martha having the preparedness to have a backup ready well in advance made everything go smoothly in a stressful time. I would absolutely work with both of them again in a heart beat.
