Before I became pregnant, I was pretty ignorant about the work doulas do for birthing people, and hiring a doula had not been on any of my previous pregnancy bingo cards. A dear friend who had recently given birth spoke so highly of Beth and her work while she was pregnant and postpartum that in my asking myself if a doula was necessary I reached out to only Beth and by some miracle she was available for my due date. From our very first meeting with Beth we found she was a great listener, incredibly smart, resourceful, and has a deep love for her work and respect for her clients. She is a brilliant collaborator - working with Beth felt like had another person on our team running the marathon WITH us, not just waiting at the finish line. There was no question could throw at her that she couldn't answer or help us find answers to. She has such tremendous respect and love and experience in her that we felt in the safest, and most capable hands the whole time. In early pregnancy when I was asking the question, is a doula what we need for our birth - a notion that kept surfacing -silly as it is- was no one goes to the Olympics for pole vaulting ( or insert sport of choice here) without a coach, or summits mt. Everest without a guide- why would anyone- knowing what I know now give birth or go through pregnancy without a doula. The birth experience for us went much different than what we had planned- having someone in our corner that rolled with us and with the unexpected with a warm loving spirit, an excellent sense of humor and a deep well of knowledge and gave us all the support we needed to make it through and onto the other side as empowered parents. Beth continues to be a great support and friend of our family , for which we are all better for and tremendously lucky.
