Having Amy at our home during this postpartum period has been such a gift. She has allowed us to enjoy the experience of transitioning to a family of 4 as well as helped our, now oldest, little girl transition to being a big sister. Amy has joyfully done all of the mundane and difficult tasks to accomplish while healing and caring for a newborn - dishes, making food, helping with our toddler, washing our clothes and changing our bedsheets. She comes in with a smile each day truly eager and excited to help in any way she can to make sure we are enjoying this period, getting rest, not being overwhelmed by anything and that we feel seen. I was hesitant on having a postpartum doula only because I had this mindset that "I can do all of that!". While I can, it's such a gift to not have to. I have truly been able to show up for my oldest little girl more, nurse late into the night and early morning hours with a smile and find joy in this newborn stage all because of Amy. Instantly she seamlessly fit into our family. My one year old asks for her, insists she sings the monkey song- and she always does. My husband has been able to breath better not feeling like the postpartum care I need was on his shoulders but shared with Amy. Neither my husband or I have family who live locally so this extra help has been a total game changer. Every mom, especially during this postpartum period, needs a mom. Amy has been that for me and for us. I will likely cry, as will my toddler, when she leaves for her next family. However, I know they will be the luckiest to have her. We're forever grateful for being given the opprotunity to work with her- she has brought a calm and joy to this 4th trimester that without her I'm confident we wouldn't have.
