We hired Katie as our doula during my second pregnancy. Having never worked with one before, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But after a traumatic first birth experience, I was hoping she could be an advocate and source of support for me in the delivery room. She did that and so much more, far exceeding any expecatations I might have had. After our daughter was diagnosed with IUGR during our 20-week anatomy scan, Katie provided exceptional care and reassurance as we navigated the difficult weeks and months ahead. She also invited me to share more about my first birth experience so we could come up with a plan to ensure it didn't happen again; her compassion and validation of what I experienced meant so much to me. When my water broke at 36 weeks at 12:30 a.m. and I called her at 1 a.m., slightly panicked about going into preterm labor, Katie calmly walked me through the situation and what choices we would have once we arrived at the hospital. Even though I had an epidural, Katie helped me try different positions to stay as comfortable as possible and walked around with me beforehand. She stayed at the hospital throughout the night as we waited for things to continue progressing, offering to pick up food for us and always checking in with me to see how I was feeling. During delivery, Katie stayed right by my side and was so encouraging and supportive. Our daughter was in NICU for 21 days, and during that time, Katie regularly checked in to see how she--and we--were doing. I am so lucky to have had Katie as my doula. Her outstanding care and experience helped us navigate my birth trauma and a very emotionally difficult second pregnancy, and created a calm and safe labor and delivery experience. I could not recommend Katie more--she's absolutely invaluable.
