Laurie was absolutely magnificent in supporting our birth experience. We met with several potential doulas, but Laurie's experience, humor, and supportiveness won us over immediately; we were so thrilled with our choice. We met twice during the prenatal period and talked through what was important to us in the birth process to make a plan; Laurie was able to explain each choice and intervention in really clear terms and help us figure out what we wanted. Heading into the end of third trimester, I had a lot of questions (identifying contractions, induction) and Laurie was patient and so informative guiding us to make our own choices. Our birth went swimmingly, thanks to Laurie and her fantastic backup doula, Marni, who started labor with us. (A special note to say how magnificent Marni was; she is Laurie's dedicated backup doula and I highly recommend her) We delivered at Swedish First Hill and Laurie knew all the nurses and providers, was able to support us through making decisions about interventions, helped us navigate the hospital systems, and was a strong support to both me and my husband (thanks to Laurie's asking, he caught our baby!). Laurie also took photographs during the pushing stage. She captured the most raw emotions, beautiful moments, and human experience without detracting from our being present. Postpartum, Laurie has been such a support as we've navigated the ups and downs of the immediate postpartum period. She's been magnificent in helping us make decisions about interventions for baby when navigating differing advice from multiple providers, as well as how to trust our instincts in feeding baby and making a good sleep schedule. She's also really atuned to partnership dynamics and mental health, which was reassuring to have as a support. Also, THE MASSAGE! Laurie provided a superb postpartum massage in our home, during which we paused to feed and soothe baby. It was life changing. Laurie is the very best; we are eternally grateful!
