I can’t lie, when my wife first mentioned hiring a doula I was hesitant. Prior to meeting Chelsey I had only heard negative stereotypes of doulas “taking over,” the birth or urging women to ignore medical advice. In retrospect, I couldn’t have been more wrong. After only an hour of talking with Chelsey, it was evident that she was born for this role. Chelsey was very patient, considerate and passionate about advocating for my wife’s desires for birth. During our time together, Chelsey ensured that we were both educated and ready for what was to come. She offered multiple prenatal visits, a birthing class, and gave us numerous resources to answer all of our questions. Chelsey is detail oriented, organized and will shoot it straight. Without her help, my wife’s labor would have looked a lot different. It was very comforting to have her steady presence in our corner. Even when our son came 3+ weeks early and she had no contractual obligation, she was there. If you are on the fence about hiring a doula, look no further.
