Trying to sum up the experience with Jo Ann is impossible!!
Jo Ann is much more than a doula, she becomes a friend and mentor, someone you will never forget. Selecting a doula is a big decision because you're inviting someone into one of the most intimate and magical experiences. Jo Ann is a miracle worker! My partner and I can not imagine our birth without her.
I had wanted an unmedicated natural birth and did everything in my power to make that happen. I also knew that I couldn't control everything and more than anything I wanted to love our birth story no matter what the process looked like.
Ultimately the baby was not in an ideal position and I needed to be induced. The process was long, but we felt in control and able to make decisions every step of the way. Jo Ann was always available by phone to help us make these decisions by giving us the information we needed to make the final call and providing us the emotional support to help us work through decisions that were not easy.
Once labor had started, she showed up at the hospital at exactly the right time. Somehow she knew:) Shortly after she arrived, my pain levels started to increase and she was right there with me helping encourage me and keep me going. One of my greatest memories was in a moment of anguish and exhaustion, she was right there smiling at me softly reminding me of my strength. Her sweet smile I will never forget.
I ended up needing an epidural to keep going, which was the best decision for me. She worked with me throughout the night, moving me into different positions to help encourage the baby to rotate. By morning, we were ready! The baby had rotated and was born 40 min later. It felt like a miracle!
Jo Ann is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in helping couples have positive birth experiences. We are forever grateful to her and how she helped our son enter the world :) If we have another baby, we will want to work with her again.
