Having Brittany alongside us during our birth experience was so comforting and integral to our positive experience as first time parents. Her style of support aligned well with my expectations for how I felt I would need support within the birthing space. I also very much wanted someone to help my partner feel included in our birth experience and informed with the labor process, which Brittany did so well. Her in-home visits included discussions stemming from questions and anxieties I had leading up to birth as well as practicing stretches and pressure points that I could use that would aid in promoting labor and a more comfortable natural birth. Brittany even facilitated a connection for me with a past client to discuss their birth based on my experiences and anxieties as my due date was approaching and then passed to help keep me calm and positive about my upcoming labor (which ultimately didn't take place as our meeting date was the day I went into labor!)
Brittany's support and guidance through her in home visits and through the evidence based birth class she instructs (which I chose to also include/join as an additional support to her doula services) allowed me to feel empowered and confident within the birthing space. The birth experience I had was not the one I planned for and it easily could have resulted in me feeling lost, scared and traumatized had it not been for the pre-work with Brittany and her presence within our room during birth. She gave me and my partner the confidence to advocate for ourselves and be part of the decision making of our birth opposed to being told what decisions the hospital was enforcing upon us. We ended up needing to stand our ground multiple times within our birth space on limits we wanted respected which I can say with confidence we wouldn't have felt able to do without her.
