There’s so much I could say about Jennese and her support during our pregnancy and birth. I’ll try to be concise. Jennese was a godsend in so many ways. First, during our pregnancy Jennese helped by providing us resources to getting more information as we made decisions about what we wanted for our birth and for our baby. Jennese was also culturally aware in the most perfect way, which made working with her as a black woman with high risk factors so much easier. I could talk with her about the challenges I experienced with my identity and she understood me and offered support, validation and s listening ear.
When it came time to make decisions about going into induction and labor, having Denise there as another thought partner, along with my partner, was invaluable. Having her experience and another set of eyes and ears in the hospital, also provided support for us because we didn’t know what to expect since this was our first birth. Jennese celebrated our choices. She celebrated when we made choices for the betterment of our baby, and she just continually supported us, which is exactly what a doula should be doing. This was our first baby and I’m so grateful that we had Jennese with us. Postpartum, Jennese checked on us and connected us with resources like a lactation consultant even beyond our time together. I could continue to say more about her amazing work and her manner and her care for us. She was the most perfect choice for us.
