I didn't really know what a doula was prior to being pregnant. Googling could only give you so much information but wasn't able to truly capture how invaluable having a doula, particularly an amazing one, can add to your experience. As a FTM, I'm glad I went with the decision to go with a birth doula and more than glad to have gone with Kristina! Because of her (and of course the amazing nurses at UW NW), I was able to avoid the potential of having an unplanned C-section when my labor stalled.
I clicked with Kristina almost immediately when speaking with her. She was funny, and easygoing and I felt at ease during our conversation. Throughout my pregnancy, she was able to provide resources for my questions and help ease my concerns about various things. During labor was when she truly shined and I honestly do not know how we would have managed without her! I never felt pressured by her and I felt like she truly listened the whole way through. She was encouraging and non-judgemental. I especially appreciated her insights when it came to needing to evaluate and make decisions on what the next steps should be throughout our labor process. This is where having an experienced doula really proved invaluable as we weren't sure of the pros and cons of options being laid out for us. She was also a great support for my husband and able to guide him to help support me given that we were both clueless.
If you're a ftm, I really recommend Kristina as your birth doula as she really helped ease my anxiety around labor. She helped solidify my decision in going with a doula and I'm happy she was able to be with us when we introduced our son into the world!
