i had amy for my doula - amy is such a sweet, wonderful person. i remember during my labor she was very kind and soft-spoken and was there the entire time for support and never pushed me to do anything i didn't want to do.
i plan on using amy again for my next birth.
Hiring Amy as my doula was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My birth experience this time around was so empowering for me. My goal was to have a drug free birth and I was able to accomplish that with Amy's help. She was so sweet and encouraged me when I wanted to give up during the hardest part of labor. I remember crying in pain and I heard Amy praying outloud for me. I will never forget how that touched me. Amy has become more than just my doula, she has become a friend! I will always be grateful that I had Amy there for the birth of my second child!
Labor is no joke. It’s painful and its tiresome. There were many times that I didn’t know if I could continue on. Amy would simply suggest trying another position or walking around, and if none of those sounded good to me she wouldn’t get offended. She is great at redirecting your thoughts throughout labor. She would switch it up often, redirecting my mind while minutes and contractions passed. When I would ask for “the drugs” she would say, “Yep! You can have them, but just try this for me one time before we ask.” While pushing, she held my hand and made sure Mike didn't miss any sweet moments. She prayed over me and comforted me when I was weak. Then the baby came! There is no greater feeling of relief that you can experience than that. IT IS AMAZING. I’ve told everyone, it is worth all the pain to feel the INSANE wave of relief over your whole body. I remember looking her in the eyes and saying “I DID IT! I DID IT NATURALLY!” I couldn’t believe it. She made me realize how strong my body actually was. She reminded me often that I was made to do this, that my body and the Lord were in control. I would recommend that everyone should use a doula! Having an extra set of experienced hands on your team is crucial. When everyone is tired and needs relief, they are there to step in. They are an unbiased opinion when you need one. They are an experienced opinion. They are encouragement when you need it. The experience Amy has is highly valuable. She had tips and techniques that you cannot think of when your going through the pain. Amy was able to remind me of all that I had learned and prepared for when I was only thinking about the upcoming contraction. She kept me on track for what I originally wanted and helped me achieve that! We are so thankful for Amy and her skill as a doula, and when it’s time for our next baby we will call Amy to be our doula again!
I could not have asked for a better doula than Amy during our pregnancy, delivery & postpartum. When finding out we were pregnant, we were very scared due to suffering nearly fatal complications (Class 1 HELLP syndrome & Severe Pre-E) in our previous pregnancy resulting in a 34w preemie & emergency c section under general. When interviewing Amy, she truly understood my fears. She had so much empathy, understanding and words of comfort to offer. We even cried a little. Immediately I knew I wanted her! During our pregnancy, I had a roller coaster ride with dr apts, waiting on test results, etc. I could always go to her, & she knew how to calm me. I was admitted at 33+3 for observation which turned into "we need to get you to 34w & deliver before Things take a turn like last time". Amy was able to share her personal delivery experiences with natural, c section, repeat c section, vbac and hemorrhaging. I felt like nobody understood the decision we had to make. We medically NEEDED to deliver this baby in a few days for my health & the baby's health...I didn't plan for this! After hours of talk with specialists & our OB, we decided in was in all of our best interest to plan a calm c section. Amy came to the hospital the night before the c section, brought homemade dinner and just sat with us, offering us anything we needed! The morning of our c section she arrived bright & early (after just being with us the evening before! She was not allowed in the OR, but she was right there in the waiting room; she knew what I was experiencing! Once the baby arrived, she met her and fell in love! Amy has a special place in our hearts & will always be like family to us. I believe Amy's never ending support allowed is to experience a beautiful birth! She never questioned our decision to switch from VBAC to c section, she simply supported us in every step of the way! I would recommend Amy and her services to everyone.
My experience with Amy Welborn as my doula was wonderful. She was very intuitve to my needs. She offered water and a heating pad and was available to do whatever was needed. She had small conversation with the other doula to keep me distracted during my contractions. That was a big request of mine before I had my baby. Conversation between others is a huge help during difficult contractions. She held my hand during transition and encouraged me to open my legs as the baby was coming out. Amy is a gifted doula that helped me relax and feel accepted as I labored. She was so encouraging, telling me how good a job I was doing throughout. Amy has a sweet spirit about her that put me at ease. She was respectful of my wishes and stayed with me throughout the entire time. I am so thankful she was there for the birth of my beautiful daughter.
I will never forget that particular day when my life was changed forever. Kael Krisitn Howard came into this world with sweat, tears and perserverance, but most of all JOY!!! I chose to deliver at St Ann's Hospital in Columbus; this being my first delivery. I called Amy when I went into labor and she drove down right away. After about 6 hours of labor when I didnt think I could go anymore, one of the nurses checked me and called the doctor and said I was ready to push. I thought to myself, almost there. The doctor arrived and checked me as well and declared I had not fully dialated and needed to labor longer!!!! It took every bit of wind out of my sails, I thought I was at pushing point! At this point Amy reaches into her bag and pulls out these encouragment index cards with scripture on them for me to focus on and be reminded that God was in control. Thank you Amy for giving me the encouragment I needed!
