Not many people get to say they had their ideal birth, but Katie helped me achieve just that.  From the first time I spoke to Katie right through to today Katie has provided support, guidance and genuine caring at every turn.  She is a great resource for EVERYTHING!  I have taken her advice on everything from how to sleep while having contractions to lactation consultants to nursing bras and she has been right about all of it.  Katie has been such a positive presence, not just in my son's birth, but in my life in general...I just can't say enough great things about her.  If I could predict when my second child will be born I would book her today!  Everyone should be so lucky as to have Katie by her side for her pregnancy, delivery and postpartum recovery.

My husband and I both agree that choosing Katie was a great idea. I truly believe that if katie was not at the birth of our daughter, I would not have been able to have a natural birth like I desired. During our prenatal visit, Katie spent time trying to understand my birth goals and what motivated me. She then used that information during he hardest times of labor to keep me focused on my goal! having someone familiar with the the hospital process was really helpful. I also love that I was able to call/text/email her with any questions before and after the birth of our daughter, including questions about breastfeeding. Katie was very responsive any time I contacted her.

We had taken our birthing class with Katie, so we had a feel for her personality and knew she would be a good fit for us. We liked that she was knowledgeable and hada good sense of humor. She can also be assertive when needed. During labor it was like Katie was a friend I had known forever, versus someone I had just met weeks before.

if we have a second child, we will be sure to call Katie again!

My experience with Katie Brown was phenomenal, to the point where we still keep in touch and I would consider her a good friend.  I was referred to Katie by another doula who wasn't able to take me as a client.  Before Katie had a chance to even respond to my e-mail requesting her services, I attended her Natural Birth for Planned Hospital Delivery class.  I felt so at ease and comfortable with her even during class that I knew she was meant to be our doula.  She immediately made herself available to us.  Katie always responded quickly to text messages or phone calls, and was always that calm, reassuring voice on the other end of the line.  She checked in frequently towards the end and answer her phone when we called at 4:30 am to report that my water broke.  She would've been willing to labor with us at our house, but we were able to muster through alone (and she respected that too).  She still continued to keep in touch and met us a the hospital as soon as we arrived.  I knew having Katie there that all would go well.  It took much of the worry and anxiety away knowing she would not only be there for me, but also for my wife.  Neither one of us had gone through child birth before, so Katie was that presence that reassured us what was happening was normal.  She was my strength when at 8 cm my body wanted to push but I was told to restrain from doing so as much as possible (holy feather breathing!).  She was my reminder to relax my forehead during contractions and to talk to my baby, and let him and my body do what it was meant to do.  I know that she coached my wife on ways to make me feel better and to also reassure her that when I didn't want to be touched or bothered, that I still loved her and wanted her there.  I could not imagine my birthing experience without Katie.  It was the most beautiful experience of my life, and I know a lot of that beauty is thanks to Katie.

I met Katie at the Wilmington Birth Center where she taught a class on having a natural labor in a hospital environment. My husband and I came away from that class empowered by knowledge and encouraged that we could have the experience we truly desired. We approached her at the end of the class with a rather esoteric question regarding medication, and she knew the answer off of the top of her head -- we were so impressed. I had been thinking about hiring a doula but was on the fence, until we met Katie.

When Katie arrived at the hospital during my labor, she enthusiastically jumped right in. She and her partner, Rachel Vorhauer, worked together to bring relief to my lower back through every contraction. Honestly, it was like a shot of morphine every time -- I stopped feeling pain in those moments, which enabled me to truly rest and relax between contractions, rather than brace myself for the next surge. Katie is truly gifted at what she does! She has a big heart and a great sense of humor. I was touched by her generous spirit. Katie played a huge role in helping my husband and I see childbirth as the beautiful process that it is -- not the "scary" experience people try to convince you that it is. We highly recommend working with her!!

I can't say enough wonderful things about katie!  We clicked from the first meeting and I just loved everything she stood for and how she represented herself.  I met with katie 3 times during my pregnancy and was impressed each time with her professionalism but also her down to earth personality.  Katie was there for me every step of the way during my 40 hour labor and I don't know how I (or my husband!) would Have made it without her.   And her support didn't end there! She has been an amazing support person and resource of knowledge postpartum as well.   She even offered to come with me to an appointment to fix my son's lip tie when she found out my husband couldn't make it.   Not only do I know I made the right choice in a doula but I feel like I gained a friend.

Kate and I connected instantly in our first phone interview. She seemed to know exactly what I wanted in a natural birth and how to help me attain it. After being risked out of a birthing center with my first daughter, I desperately wanted things to be different with my second daughter.

A 36 week ultrasound confirmed my second daughter was in the breech position. I was risked out of my birth center again and scheduled for an external cephalic version the following week. I was an emotional wreck leading up to the version. Kate stayed in constant contact with me, validating my feelings and keeping my spirits high. She came to the procedure and kept me calm and collected even when things got scary and we were threatened with an emergency cesarean. Besides helping me, she asked the doctors questions that I couldn't think of and kept my husband calm too.

The next day the doctors office called and told me my baby's blood was mixing with mine and I needed to be induced that day. I asked Kate to come by the next day when things started to become intense. Kate talked me through each contraction and suggested different positions that may be more comfortable, she rubbed my back and placed pressure on my hips when I needed it. After 2 hours of pitocin induced contractions, I was worried I wasn't progressing. Kate reassured my confidence and suggested I get checked by the midwife. I was 6-7cm dialatwd and 90% effaced with a bulging bag of water. Kate's experience and research found it to be beneficial at this point. I don't remember another contraction after it was broken, my daughter arrived easily and smoothly about 30 minutes later.

Although i I was unable to have the exact birth I desired, Kate got me through so many emotional ups and downs, and kept my head straight when I wanted to go crazy. She is a caring, skilled, and knowledgable doula and friend. I would highly recommend her services and companionship.

Katie Brown is an amazing doula! As a first time mom who was hoping for an un-medicated birth in a hospital setting, I knew that I would need a great support system and boy did I get it! Her home visits during my pregnancy were not only informative but allowed us to develop a relationship that absolutely carried over into my labor and delivery. As we got closer to my due date, Katie was very good about checking in with me to see how I was feeling and if there was anything I needed from her. When the big day actually arrived (or should I say DAYS), Katie was at my home within the hour. We did a big portion of my laboring at the house and it was very reassuring to have Katie there to help me decide when it was time to head to the hospital. Once we were at the hospital, Katie had a great rapport with the medical staff and was seen as a help, not a hindrance to their work. Throughout my 41 hours of labor, Katie was constantly massaging my back, encouraging me, and helping me to confront and move past my fears. It was clear that my experience and well-being was her top priority. As my labor drew on, she asked my permission to reach out to a fellow doula to help get us through the final stretch. After 34 hours of laboring, that fresh energy in the room was exactly what we needed. I'm so grateful she didn't feel too proud to reach out for help to make sure I was taken care of. Because of Katie I was not only able to survive almost 2 full days of labor, but I was able to achieve my goal of having an un-medicated birth without any interventions. Katie was also a huge help to my husband and was able to guide him in what to do to best support me. This allowed him to feel fully involved in the process and gave us a truly magical experience as a couple. Thank you Katie, I couldn't have done it without you!

I met Kate at The Birth Center in Wilmington DE during a class designed for those interested in having a natural birth in the hospital setting. I felt an instant connection with her and contacted her shortly after to inquire about her doula services. Kate was so knowledgable and informative about the childbirth process in different settings and based on the wishes I shared with her about my birth plan, she helped me make the best decision about where to deliver-I ended up switching to The Birth Center in my 3rd trimester after having earlier planned to be at the hospital. Kate was a huge support and always accessible during my pregnancy and immediately following the birth of my son. On the day of my birth, Kate was a calming and nurturing presence to both me and my husband. A vivid memory I have of her is just her calm voice and her repeatedly telling my how strong I was. her presence definitely set the tone for a calm, loving environment for me and my husband to bring our first child into and I would recommend her to any woman who is pregnant.

I cannot say enough positive and wonderful things about our experience with Katie Brown. I will speak for myself as my wife may fill out her own testimony, although I am 100% sure she shares my sentiments. We met Katie at a class at the Birthing Center in Wilmington and were incredibly impressed by her professionalism, her knowledge, and clear love for what she did. We emailed her immediately to set up a meeting and after a few minutes we both knew that we wanted to work with Katie. She was patient, calm, yet serious - she clearly has an incredible grasp of evidence-based research, yet she didn’t overwhelm us. Her visits to our home to discuss various aspects of the birth plan were tremendously informative and helpful. When my wife went into labor it was very fast, things moved so quickly a lot of my own “plan” went out the window and I was just interested in getting my wife to the hospital safely. Katie stayed in contact with my wife and I on our way to the hospital and in triage, and provided the space I needed (as the husband) to calm down and be there for my wife and my soon-to-arrive son. Once we were in the delivery room Katie found us and went right into action, doing everything she possibly could to help my wife follow her original birth plan and yet allowing her to make new decisions. Having Katie there during the process was essential. I can honestly say I don’t know what I would have done without her there. Everything went smoothly, our doctor even came in to deliver the baby and Katie had an excellent report with all the staff. Everything happened so fast but Katie seemed to be able to focus my wife, as well as myself, on what was happening each moment so we could be “in it”. Katie was there, but it was if she was floating around us – as corny as that sounds I mean it, she was present in every sense of the word, but so incredibly non-intrusive. We really could not have asked for a better experience.

Katie was my doula for my third baby. She was fantastic! As a doula myself, I felt like my standards for hiring a doula were high. I needed someone who was hands on and nurturing. But I was also looking for someone who is very intuitive. Katie was all of these things! She was a strong support and she never left my side. She is very personable and she worked so well with my midwives. Katie was also a great support for my husband. She was with me every step of the way through my pregnancy. She was always open to all of my questions and decisions. And she was amazing in the post partum period. I have a history of post partum depression and I knew it would come back. Not only was she very comforting to talk to during that time, but she also helped me watch for signs and she referred me to a great therapist. All in all, she's very warm, reliable and knowledgable. I wouldn't have another baby with out her. Thanks, Katie!

I will be forever grateful to Kate for her doula services. Kate had reached out to me when I was a mess after finding out that I was pregnant with my second. My first was still a baby and I was beyond terrified. She was a huge factor in my coming to terms with my upcoming birth. She checked in with me throughout the pregnancy to see how I was and to answer any concerns or questions. I was always reassured with the knowledge that she was there for me. She is so easy to talk to and I can't imagine a single person not loving her the first time meeting her. When it came time for labour I was scared and feeling like I couldn't do it. I had started having irregular contractions the night before and was afraid this "false" labour would continue. I wasn't able to sleep and when the contractions started coming regularly I was tired, upset and scared. I called Kate and she came over immediately despite the late hour. It is unbelievable the calmness and reassurance that she brought with her. As soon as she arrived I felt so much better and the pain lessened tremendously! It's amazing what a difference fear and stress can do to your pain levels. So all of a sudden I was laughing and dealing with the contraction like they were nothing. Once my father in law arrived she followed me to the birth center. She kept me moving to help me progress and we joked and laughed for a while until things got too intense. When the it came time for pushing I can still here her words of encouragement helping me get my huge baby out! I really don't think I could have done it without her. It was a long labour and her calming reassuring presence helped me go on. It was a beautiful birth. One that I wished for and that I'm proud of. There wasn't a dry eye in the room when he finally came out. All 11 lbs 14 oz of him! Thank you Kate for everything you have done for me. You are a wonderful person and doula. I will love you forever! Every expecting mother should have a Kate!

Katie was incredible to work with and I am so thankful that we had her there for the labor and delivery of my daughter. Katie has so much insight, knowledge and helpful tips on how to experience labor and delivery and get the birth experience that you would like. I really wanted a natural birth especially since my daughter was a preemie. Katie was there during my labor and gave me such wonderful encouragement to get through the pain and also helped with different pressure points to help relieve some of the pain. We loved working with Katie and cant wait to have her attend our next baby's delivery :)

My name is Dr. Brenda Fairchild and I have known Katie for years and have been referring my patients to her often. They cannot say enough wonderful things about Katie. They love her passion for birth and how knowledgeable she is. She helps to keep both mom and dad calm and lets them know what is going to happen next so there are no surprises. I love she is so passionate of wanting families to have a natural birth and is always trying to help them achieve their goal of an amazing birth story. She loves to breastfeed and has all three of her own children. Katie is also currently studying to be a child birth educator. So if you are looking for a doula, look no further, you have found Katie. I feel so grateful to have had Katie as my doula! Her calming presence was a huge help for both myself and my husband.   She was with us every step of the way, from the moment I became pregnant to months after my baby was delivered.  Her support during the birthing process and postpartum made me feel more relaxed and confident as I entered into parenthood.  Katie has a true talent for making people feel safe and cared for.  I highly recommend her to anyone looking!

I can honestly say that acquiring Kate's doula services was the best thing I could ever have done as a first time mom. Upon meeting I knew that I wanted Kate to help me birth my child naturally. She came to meet with us a few weeks before my due date in order to understand our birth plan and she was a constant support throughout my first full day of labor, which included walking around the hospital with us after being told that I was only 1 cm dilated, even though my contractions were less than 3 minutes apart. We parted at midnight that night after being sent home by the hospital, but Kate came back to the hospital the next day in the early afternoon after I was admitted at 4 cm. Kate even brought along a lovely doula friend, and I labored the entire day with them alternately massaging me, encouraging me to breathe, suggesting different positions to labor in, and yet they were also conscious of giving my husband and I time to ourselves. The girls stayed until midnight that night, at which point I was still at 4 cm but had not had a break in contractions since that morning, and was given an epidural and Pitocin to get my cervix moving. Even though I had planned for a drug-free delivery, after 2 days of intense and incessant contractions, I decided to accept medical intervention, and Kate was not in the least bit judgmental. Kate was there as my daughter was born, and since there was meconium in the amniotic fluid, the baby was whisked away to be evaluated by nurses, and Kate was the one to take pictures of our brand new baby, since my husband was tending to me. Kate stayed for several hours, and helped me to breastfeed for the first time. Kate also did a post-delivery visit at my house a day or two after we came home from the hospital. My eyes still well-up with tears nearly two years later, recalling Kate's whole-hearted support and love. I could never have done it without her, and I hope to have her by my side for my next baby as well.

Katie is an incredible doula.  As a doula myself, I can attest to her skills and patience in the beautiful art of serving a laboring woman.  My first birth was a C-Section, and so the second time around, I absolutely needed a VBAC.  Katie was essential in getting me the healing birth I wanted and needed.  She worked tirelessly for almost two days (my labor was "just" 40 hours!) through two nights encouraging me, massaging me, using counter pressure and "shaking the apples" through every contraction.  She always made me feel strong, like I was some amazing birth goddess doing exactly what I was meant to be doing.  She also worked AMAZINGLY WELL with my husband, so we were this awesome team that was just working toward the common goal of bringing our baby into the world!    I felt her positive energy and love every minute, and I couldn't imagine ever birthing another baby without her.
