Hiring Shoaf was one of the best decisions that I made during my second pregnancy. I wish I had known about her with my first baby! She definitely went above and beyond in suggesting things to think about and answering any questions that I had along the way. Shoaf was a calming presence in very chaotic time for me, and was flexible with meeting times when our schedule was pretty hectic. We did a child birth education class with her, and it really opened my eyes to some things that I had not realized about labor, and helped calm my fears about some issues that I was nervous about. I highly recommend doing at least one class with her! At 35 weeks, I ended up in the hospital for false labor. As my original plan had been to labor at a free-standing birth center, I was totally thrown off guard by this development. Shoaf checked in with me often until I went into true labor and helped me to think through all the differences with a hospital birth and what might change if I were to give birth at a hospital. Shoaf's calm demeanor was incredibly helpful during labor. She was never pushy, but always had good suggestions at just the right times. I always felt very comfortable with Shoaf. She brought a comforting presence to the birth, and I felt like she was another one of my sisters. She took initiative in making sure I had everything I needed before I had even asked for it. I also appreciated that she never took the place of my support people (husband and sister), but acted as a support to them as well in figuring out how to best help me through labor and delivery. My husband was concerned before deciding on a doula that he might be replaced in the birth process, but this was not an issue at all. Shoaf made sure that our family was the focus, and he was still my main source of strength and encouragement during labor. Shoaf also took pictures for us during labor and the delivery. They are beautiful and provide priceless memories of the birth of our daughter!

Shoaf was a great doula!  She offered a lot of education for my wife and was very supportive both emotionally and physcially with her warmth, encouragement, and back rubs.  We will most likely use her again for our next child.  Thank you Shoaf!

From the moment we met with Shoaf we knew she was the one. She is kind, caring and knowledgeable. We knew we wanted a natural birth and to stay at home as long as possible. We talked many times by phone and by text about my wants, needs and concerns. Each time we met she made me feel like we were old friends getting together to chat rather than a business transaction. She had so many ideas on how to help be comfortable before, during and after labor. When my labor started early in the morning she responded right away and joined us to help keep things in my home as long as possible. She had me joking and laughing between contractions and eased me through the contractions when they came on. Without her as part of our team we would have been at the hospital so much earlier. When the time came to go to the hospital she helped us remember everything we needed and off we went. We got to the hospital and had to wait to be admitted. She helped me get comfortable while I waited and push through the hardest of the contractions I had felt so far. By the time we got to the delivery room my little man couldn't wait any longer and I almost didn't make it to the bed before he arrived. Shoaf then helped us out with breastfeeding and making sure everything was going great there. This birth for me was by far the most perfect birth I ever could have imagined. No medical interventions. Nothing. It was beautiful and without Shoaf to hold our hands and guide us through it would not have been possible. i am forever grateful for her.

Shoaf is one of those people that being a mother just comes so naturally to. Combine that with her fun, loving, helpful spirit, and you could not ask for more in a postpartum doula. With my third baby, I was out of energy and out of hands! Shoaf gave me the most precious gift during those first few weeks -- time to bond with my new one, help with my crazy other ones, and a shoulder to lean on with questions and worries. It's hard to watch someone else doing housework or cooking when our instinct as mothers is to jump up and get the job done, but I wouldn't have traded it for anything. She was there for us in every way through one of the most special times in our lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Shoaf Camp of Mustard Seed Doula Services, was instrumental in making the birth of my daughter one of the most memorable days of my life.  Her calm, focused, caring demeanor and expert knowledge of childbirth was extremely helpful not only for me but my husband as well.  We felt like we had someone who finally spoke our language as we are not medical professionals and didn't always understand what the doctors and nurses were saying.  For me personally, having Shoaf to talk to leading up to the big event and after we went home from the hospital was amazing.  I was very nervous about the life changing event that childbirth is and worried about the stages of birth and potential medical interventions that I had learned about in the typical classes offered by the hospital I delivered in.  After meeting with Shoaf, I can honestly say that my perception of childbirth changed and I was able to let go of my anxiety and starting seeing childbirth for the natural and human process that it is. If knowledge is power, then Shoaf is truly powerful. I felt empowered by our meetings and the knowledge she gave me which was so refreshing and uplifting as my experience with the traditional classes at the hospital were not. Together we made a birth plan listing 'wishes' or goals while I was in labor which I then shared with my doctor prior to delivery, and I feel it helped all the hospital staff understand my wishes.  After our daughter was born and we were settled at home, Shoaf helped with breastfeeding information and tips which helped me a lot to successfully breastfeed my baby as it was not as intuitive as I had thought it would be.  Shoaf is non-judgmental and understands that each woman should be free to make their own decisions about their care and their baby's.  My husband and I would highly recommend Shoaf Camp and God willing, should we have more children, we would love to have her by our side once again.
