I am so happy that we hired Kristen to be a part of our birth experience. She was a wealth of knowledge and had such a calming presence when the day came to give birth to our first child. When we were in the hospital there was a lot of downtime with no nurses or midwives present and I have a feeling that if it was just my husband and I we would’ve been a little bit more anxious not knowing much about different types of contractions or how to cope with them. She was there by my side the whole time encouraging me mentally and helping me with the contractions physically. I’m convinced that I wouldn’t have been able to have the birth experience I had hoped for without her!
With this being my first pregnancy I was looking for a little extra support and information for my partner and myself; we had a lot of questions especially since we had gone the route of not taking education classes to prepare us. Kristin was amazing to work with and provided us with a lot of good information during our meetings and also through reading material and via email. She was very easy going, had a calm demeanor and let us lead the way on the specific experience we wanted. I would be more than happy to use her services again if we ever had another child and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula!
Kristin was a wonderfully calming, supportive and informed presense for me through my pregnancy and birth. Even though it was my second birth I knew that having a doula was an important factor for our successful first birth in the hospital with our daughter five years ago. This time we were going to have a home birth with a midwife and I knew that having a doula would be helpful again as there are still many ways support would be needed, especially if a transport would have to happen. Whenever I had questions about decisions I had to make about tests, vitamins, procedures Kristin would send me multiple articles about the subject in question. She shared her books with me and her birth affirmations and most importantly shared her belief in my body and all of our bodies ability to birth. When the day of the birth came I finally realized I was in labor and called Kristin and she was thankfully only ten minutes away. I said I would text her when I was ready for her to come over, which was fifteen minutes later and she thankfully got there a while I was pushing the baby out, my husband was preparing to catch the baby as our midwife was not there yet, and Krisitin was able to come and hold my hands as the baby was crowning. When my contraction was done and the babys head was born my husbnad was saying push, push and I was saying no I do not have a contraction right now and Kristin calmly said "listen to your body, everything is ok". And when the next contraction came I was able to push him the rest of the way out and my husband caught him and put him on my belly. Kristin got the towel and we all made sure he was ok while we waited for the midwife to arrive about ten or fifteen minutes later. It was a very fast birth, under 40 minutes, that could have felt tramatic but thankfully it did not. The strong, calming presence Kristin brought into the room at just the right time, although short, was priceless.
