In addition to being a fantastic doula, Barbara Lehr is just an amazing person and a joy to be around. Her presence is uplifting and confidence boosting. Her extensive knowledge about birth and bodywork was beyond helpful during delivery and post-partum. You will not regret hiring Barbara as your doula!

Barbara was such a source of peace and comfort to my husband and me throughout my pregnancy and labor/delivery.  From prayer, massage, essential oils, and encouragement, Barbara had the perfect tool needed in each moment.  Her affirming words and expertise gave me the ability to trust God and my body to deliver our daughter without medication and allowed my husband to remain by my side throughout the entire labor and delivery experience.  Barbara is an amazing doula and I would highly recommend her services!

Hiring a doula is one of the smartest birthing decisions you could make. My husband agrees. He loves that there’s someone advocating for what I want who is also knowledgeable enough to butt heads with me if I’m being stubborn and making unwise decisions. Barbara was perfect for this role. She is easy to work with and one of the sweetest ladies I know, but she'll also tell you when you're making bad choices (I was freaking out about an epidural so much that I told my midwife I'd rather have a c-section).

I had the great pleasure of working with Barbara Lehr for two pregnancies and deliveries, and I think my favorite part about working with her is that she gives you exactly what you need. She checks in with you during your pregnancy, but she is always a text away when you have any questions. I dealt with a miscarriage concern during my second pregnancy, and I knew she was covering my family in prayer. She saved me hours of research because I could ask her questions like, “What’s an episiotomy?” and “Are IV fluids necessary?” And though her knowledge was indispensable, I never felt that she imposed her personal idea of the perfect birth on me.

We first met Barbara through her Bradley classes.  She was our doula for our daughters in 2013 and 2015.  I was one of those mommas-to-be that needed as much information about what was about to happen to me in labor as possible.  The information and experience that Barbara shared helped me feel more aware of techniques and coaching that could allow me to experience the type of birth that we wanted.  Through her education, she empowered my husband to be an amazing coach that was able to predict and meet every need during the birth process.  At times, she was the narrator and the voice of reason that helped ground us.  Her calmness and prayers were quietly in the background cheering us through the process.  She stepped up in times of nasuea with essential oils and massage.  Her wisdom during the final minutes before we were able to meet our daughters was invaulable.  She documented the process with a timeline and photos.  She was right there with helping my daughters latch for the first time and had amazing praise for a job well done came in the first few hours after birth.  She even kept our awaiting family updated!  Barbara was essential in helping us achieve the birth experience we had envisioned for bringing our girls into the world.

Barbara Lehr is so much more than an amazing Doula to me. Besides helping us welcome our two girls earthside, she's my mentor and one of the few people I have "filling in" part of the role that my late mother would have been filling for me if she were still living. She just gets it. All of it. Both my husband and myself were convinced that Barbara was perfect for our birth team after meeting her the first time. We then took her Bradley Method childbirthing class that I also highly recommend. We made life-long friends from that class and really got to know Barbara there. What sets her apart from other doulas, perhaps, is her affinity for the marriage/partner dynamic. She shows such deep respect for my husband and often verbalizes how amazing he is... which is something I often overlook or take for granted. She knows just what to say and do before, durring, and after birth to make a family feel at ease, comforted, taken care of... loved. She loves deeply and it shows in all the the roles she plays in life, not just in the birth world.

I gave birth to my son in June of 2015. As a first time mom, I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. Barbara helped calm all my fears. She worked wonderfully with my husband and I.

I gave birth at Bloomington Hospital, and they were very open to me having a doula. Barbara worked so well with all the staff, and nurses there. She was able to help out with things that I couldn't focus on during labor, and keep me very calm.

After returning he from the hospital I was struggling with breastfeeding and worrying about my milk coming in and she was such a big help!

I highly recommend Barbara, and she is such a wonderful doula.

Barbara was definitely essential to the great birth experience we had. She is so kind, encouraging, and knowledgeable. We became first time parents in February 2015 and we had no idea what to expect about anything. Having someone there, especially at the hospital, who we could trust, who would be our advocate, and who could guide us through each phase of labor, even all the way through postpartum, was more important than we could have known when we first hired her.

I delivered at Community South in Indy with a midwife. We decided to forfeit any pain relief and I don't think I would have made it through 22 hours of labor without Barbara to encourage me and to help my husband most effectively support me. We had a few complications with me and baby which could have been disatrous, and she not only helped me understand what was going on, but she was a support to my husband. *HUSBANDS: my husband was worried that if we hired a doula that she would kind of take over and he would just be in the background, but that is not the case with Barbara! She showed him how to help me best and I leaned on him for most of the support. He agrees that when we have another kid, we will definitely be hiring Barbara again because she was THAT much of an essential part of the experience.

She took pictures for us, which I didn't realize how much we would treasure, and she helped me learn how to get baby to latch. Even in the weeks following she helped me to deal with a bit of PPD, and I can say now that baby is  5 months old, I don't feel a bit of the depression I did in the first few months, and I most definitely credit a large portion of that to her and the rememdies she suggested.

She's fabulous and wonderful :)

Barbara is respectful, knowledgeable, and kind. She was a great comfort to me during and after the birth of my second child. I was supported and nourished by her care. After the birth, she gave me some great pictures and birth notes. The thoughtfulness and organization of the notes was amazing; everything seemed to happen so fast and she was so attentive to me, I didn’t think she would have the time to take such detailed notes or remember so much!

Barbara Lehr is an amazing person all around. It was my third pregnancy and I was determined, after 2 inductions w/epidurals, to have a drug free delivery. She was CRITICAL to my husnand and I accomlishing this! No matter how many births you've experienced, there's never a way to predict what will happen during labor and delivery. This was the first time I was able to labor naturally as well, a complete joy, especially under Barbara's wonderful care. Words of encouragement, massage, aromatherapy, movement, even the occasional laughter and convivial conversation... the entire experience was perfect (just as my previous births were)... but this one was extra special becuase all 3 of us were connected and I felt more empowered in my ability to do what millions women have done for millenia... I highly recommend Barbara and commend her for not only her outstanding doula services (along with pre and post partum visits) but also for her selfless heart and generous volunteer efforts throughout our community. Her passion for nourishing food + healing is a true gift to the countless individuals she has touched!

Dear expecting parents,

I had a natural childbirth at Bloomington Hospital. This would not have been possible with out my amazing husband and our amazing doula, Barbara Lehr.

When I decided that I wanted to consider having a doula at our hospital birth, my husband was skeptical. He felt prepared to be my birth coach since we had taken the birth classes at BABS and he thought that a doula would be unnecessary. Thankfully after we met with Barbara to dicuss her services he turned to me and said, "O.K. I get it. I want her as our doula." I was so thankful that we both felt the same way.

Barbara had been reccomended to me by two different people who had loved having her for their doula. When we were at the hospital in the midst of labor, Barbara was there to provide everything that a laboring couple could need. If I needed ice water, Barbara was handing it to me before I could ask. She provided hot towels, cold towels, massage, and the encouragment and advice that helped us achieve the natural birth. Barbara also interfaced with the nuses and hospital personal. This protected Claudio and I and allowed us to become fully absorbed in our inredible jourey of child birth. Husbands don't want to leave their wives during contractions to fetch water or talk to hospital staff. You two want to be by each other every step of the way. Barbara makes this possible and our experience was so beaugitul becuase of it. Becuase natural childbirth can be rather painiful (in the best way possible) it was wonderful to have Barbara suggesting comfort techniques and helping us navigate to our final goal: the baby! Right when I said, " I can not do this any more," Barbara was there to remind me of what stage of labor I was in and how close I was to getting my baby.  My son is 5 weeks old and I contact Barbara almost once every two weeks with questions.

Barbara was our doula for our previous twin birth and we were so happy with her that we hired her again for our son's birth. We were hoping for a VBA2C (vaginal birth after two cesareans), but after some complications decided to go ahead with a scheduled cesarean. Barbara was in contact with me over text, phone, and e-mail throughout the entire stressful pregnancy (I am so thankful for her constant responses when I was stressed or struggling throughout the pregnancy). She attended the birth and came to the hospital - she was actually there before we arrived - and stayed with me throughout the entire procedure. She took amazing photos during the cesarean and gave me a ton of moral and emotional support throughout. I had a family centered cesarean so I was able to hold my baby skin to skin in the OR and Barbara helped facilitate that. After the birth, in recovery, Barbara helped me latch my new baby and begin our breastfeeding relationship. She stayed until I was comfortable after the birth. At our first postpartum visit, Barbara helped me work thorugh some newborn-life struggles I was having and was an incredible encouragement in these first weeks. Barbara is a huge blessing and I would recommend her to anyone who is pregnant! Thanks, Barbara, for your excellent service!

Barbara was our doula for our second and third births (a VBAC and an unplanned c-section).  Her support was invaluable for my husband, especially for my third labor which happened after the death of my mother.  Barbara was caring, honest and very straight forward with options and scenarios, without pressing preference or passing judgment on our choices.  She made the birth process much smoother and was the best advocate we could have hoped for in the hospital.  During my third labor, with my mother being gone, Barbara appreciated her absence and stepped in to fill the role my mother had at my previous two births.  I could not ask for a better experience, or a more caring doula.  Her prayers during my pregnancy and labor, and her appreciation of my mother's presence and subsequent absence were vital in the whole process.  If our family were not now complete, we would DEFINITELY have her at the birth of our fourth child :)

I cannot say enough good things about my experiences with Barbara Lehr.  During our first meeting I knew that she was our doula!  She has an extensive wealth of knowledge and I clung to every word.  I was able to have an all natural birth in the hospital with Barbara at my side.  My husband and I were and continue to be encouraged by her passion for childbirth!  Many thanks to Barbara.

We had interviewed several other doulas before meeting with Barbara and were feeling a bit uncertain about just how we were supposed to find the "right" doula.  Then we met Barbara Lehr and we both knew immediately that she was the doula for us!  Barbara's warm spirit and caring heart are evident from the minute you meet her.  She was a great source of knowledge and encouragement throughout the pregnancy.  It was especially significant to us to know that she was committed to praying for our baby throughout his in utero development.  When any decisions needed to be made during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, Barbara offered a wealth of information without any pressure or attempt to sway our decision.  Barbara was a tremendous presence in the labor and delivery room!  After hearing discouraging news about my progress from our midwife, I was so thankful that Barbara could drown that negativity with encouragement and love!  She worked VERY HARD for us, for my body, and for our baby!  She was constantly busy massaging pressure points, offering suggestions and assistance with positions to move things along, praying, and reading scripture.  She took special note of the type of relationship my husband and I have and used her gentle nurturing ways to guide my husband in comforting me through labor and delivery, allowing us to grow closer during such an incredible exprience.  I've already informed Barbara that we will be calling her to reserve her services for tne next child the moment we get a positive pregnancy test!

Barbara is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. I came across her name on this website and called her. From our phone conversation I knew she was the Doula for me. We met with four Doulas and after meeting with Barbara my husband and I knew she was the one. Barbara served as an invaluable source of support not only for the birth of our baby but also during pregnancy.  She is extremely knowledgable and has great relations with the birthing community (including the OB's).  Barbara was never intrusive and never judgemental with any of the the decisions we were contemplating, she provided prayer and support in all situations. I suffered from PPD with my first birth and I believe having her on our team kept that from happening this time. Barbara will always be special to our family and we will forever be friends :)

I was very thankful to have Barbara attend the birth of my first child for many reasons, but most of all because I knew she had been praying for my baby since very early in my pregnancy. During labor, Barbara was especially helpful in letting my husband know what was going on, and how he could help me be more comfortable. She also suggested some very effective ways to keep the labor progressing when things slowed down.  Barbara has a very good working relationship with my doctor, which helped communication between all the hospital staff go smoothly. Most of all, though, I appreciated having a godly woman present at my birth. Barbara constantly reminded me that God is good, read scriptures, and prayed with me and my husband through the pain and ultimate joy of birth.

Barbara Lehr is a wonderful doula. She was a great help to me while in labor, and in the weeks before and after birth. Barbara is very knowledgeable in all things pregnancy, and if you ask her a question that she can't answer, she does some research and gets back to you promptly.  In labor she was there constantly to hold my hand, massage my back and encourage me. There were some complications after birth with my son, he was acting in a way that worried the doctor and nurses. They had to take him away for an hour. During that time Barabra comforted me, prayed with me, and helped me to feel that it would be okay, all the while keeping me honestly informed about what was going on with him. She was also there to rejoice with us when he was brought back to us perfectly healthy. I don't know how I got on without her in my previous two pregnanies. She has a tender spirit and I know that she really cares about me and my family. If we get pregnant again, Barbara Lehr will be one of my first calls.

Without Barbara's help I would have had to have a C-section. My third daughter was slightly off-center and an OP. After 50 hrs of labor (which Barbara had been wonderful thorughout) my OB/Gyn, who had tried heroically to allow me the vaginal birth I wanted, told me she was giving me one hour to progress or she was going to have to do a C-section. I cried, but understood the necessity. Barbara then asked my doctor if she could try something called "flipping the pancake". My doc said she could, provided the baby's heartbeat stayed good. Barbara rolled me on my side and rocked my pelvis and when I was checked again ... I had dialated to 6 cm. I delivered a vaginaly, without tearing, my baby girl just a few hours later. Bronwyn was healthy and beautiful, and I got to enjoy her first hours instead of recovering from surgery. I would recommend Barbara to everyone and anyone!!
