We worked with Lelayna for our daughter's home birth. As first time parents we were not sure what to expect and what questions to ask and Lelayna was a steady and calming influence as we moved through the prenatal period and prepared for her birth and babyhood. Throughout my pregnancy Lelayna was supportive and helpful and available to us for information or just to get to know each other. During the birth her energy and support were invaluable; she worked with us and the rest of the birth team through a long pushing phase and provided encouragement and coaching to both my husband and myself. Thank you so much Lelayna, we so appreciate you and your time with our family!
Lelayna worked with our family as our midwife's assistant for the birth of our second daughter. Her presence is serene yet joyful- her love for her work creates a warm and happy glow around her. When our baby needed a little extra help getting fluid out of her lungs, Lelayna moved quickly and calmly to both help the baby and put my husband, mother and I at ease about what was happening. Her knowledge, skill, and humor made her such a valuable member of our team!
Lelayna is a true professional. She was absolutely essential in making my birth experience the best! She is very versatile and can sense what is needed energetically before you need to say anything. She can get the room laughing with her cheerful spirit and witty jokes or be the quiet strength you need while lovingly holding you with her gentle eyes. During my birth I had a silent moment to myself where I wondered how long will this go on? can i really make it through this? I looked at Lelayna and without a word her eyes said 'Yes, you can do this.' I ended up having the perfect birth- at home with a healthy baby and healthy mama. It was my first birth and it was 12 hours of labor with only 7 minutes of pushing! It really does matter who you choose for your support team. Lelayna took time to get to know me well before my due date. Afterwards, she visited us multiple times to check in and be a good listener. She made me homemade soap and homemade wool 'sweater pants' from her sheep flock- she's also a shepherdess (how cool!). There are many doulas out there, but only one Lelayna.
Lelayna is an intelligent, informed, compassionate and reliable Doula to have at your bedside. She will be there for you before, during, and after your birth. My husband was so happy she was there for us. He said to me about a week after my daughter was born, "Man, I was skeptical, but honey, that was the best money we ever spent". Lelayna treats the man of the momma with the utmost respect. She goes to bat for you, and she knows her stuff. Everything she told me might happen did And while I was vulnerable she remained strong and helped me follow through with the initiative which was my desire to have a non-pain medicated vaginal birth in a hospital. I was coerced into inducement, by being led to believe that ther was maconium in my fluid- ok so Lelayna sorta knew they were fibbing but was gentle enough not to order me about and have me go against my doctors). Then, they offered me pain meds at my most critical time....ok basically you are just getting used to the contractions and at that moment they suggest meds meds meds. So you're like heck yeah. Well, lelayna also warned that they have a talent for this in the hospital. Prior to inducement, in one of our meetings, we discussed a game plan. We decided that if this happened to me( if I was offered meds and said yes in the heat of the labor). The game plan was that Lelayna would stop it from happening. Well she did. She stopped those nurses from giving me pain meds that would have robbed me of the beautiful natural birth I was able to have. Yes, I was induced and the pitosin creates powerful contractions. But, I'm happy to say with the aide of Lelayna Klein, I was able to feel when to push properly avoiding the c-section which happens frequently with pain meds during labor. With Lelayna's coaching I was able to manage the pain by following her lead. She had me moving around and changing positions despite nurses intentions of keeping me strapped to the bed. My birth was amazing and I owe it to her!
Lelayna attended both of my childrens' births, the first in 2011 as a doula and then again, this past July as an assistant to our midwife. It was she who referred me to our midwife to whom she now assists. Prior to becoming pregnant, I always felt inspired to have a homebirth with an amazing doula and midwife team. I was referred to Lelayna by several mutual friends of ours and it became very clear after speaking with her that she was to be part of our birth team. During both pregnancies and home birth experiences, she was caring, insightful, positive, attentive, humorous and loving. Post birth care was also wonderful where she continued her loving nature with check in phone calls/texts and a home visit. Really, I could go on and on but I'm striving to keep the message simple. I had two beautiful birthing experiences with her at my side and would have her there again if I was so blessed to have the opportunity. Lelayna means "the light" and she truly does shine. <3
Lelayna was with me for the birth of my first child in October. She is an energetic and caring woman full of spirit and love for pregnancy, moms and babies. She genuinely makes your care a priority - reaching out just to see how you are doing and leaving you with the feeling and knowledge of the importance of knowing your caregivers! As a birth worker, she is gentle, respectful and moves with what a woman is giving her...she has a great calmness in her energy in a birth environment. I was so happy to have her attend our little one's birth. I highly recommend Lelayna as a doula. - Kate Altman, birth doula and proud mom
Lelayna worked with me for the birth of my first daughter a few weeks ago. From the first home visit weeks before delivering Lelayna presented with such a sweet and friendly manner making me feel so comfortable with her attending my home birth. When I finally went into labor Lelanya continued with that sweet demeanor and that put me at ease during the hardest day of my life. After 17+ hours in labor Lelayna went with me when I transferred to the hospital. There she effectively advocated for me as needed. Lelayna is so talented and so great at what she does. I was very lucky and eternal grateful that Lelayna was there for the hardest and most wonderful day of my life.
I was so excited when I found out I was pregnant and was searching for someone with a loving , and nurturing energy to support my first experince with the birthing process. I am fortunate to have known of Lelayna through multiple friends in the area and was very pleased with all the support and advice she offered me. Since this was my first child I was nervous and unaware of all the different options I had for my birth plan. Lelalyna offered me support and knowledge of my options as well as allowing me to make the choices I needed to make. Her kind and caring nature allowed for a wonderful experince regardless of the strenuos, long duration of my labor. Lelayna's ability to know how and when to support me during the toughest times provided me with the added strength I needed. I would recommend her skills and compassionate nature to anyone having a child and feel fortunate to have had her as my doula. I'm also proud of her continued devotion to midwifery and wish her the best with her own little one!
I am very pleased with my experience with Lelayna. She encapsulated my placenta after the birth of my first child in January 2014. I had researched placenta encapsulation and was looking forward to its benefits. Since this was my first child, I don't know what post partum would be like without consuming my placenta but it is something I will definitely do for future children, and I will definitely use Lelayna. She was very professional and answered any questions I had. She picked up the placenta from the birth center so I didn't have to worry about transporting it anywhere. She returned the capsules within 2 days (babe was born Thursday morning and I got the capsules Saturday morning) which was very prompt! She even included the umbilical cord which she had dried and shaped into a heart; what a sweet and unique treasure to have. Her pricing is reasonable for the service! I would definitely recommend her! :)
I had a baby boy in October 2013. Lelayna encapsulated my placenta. She did an amazing job! She had a very fast turn around! I would highly recommend her. She even dried out part of the umbilical cord into the shape of a heart! It was sweet and meant a lot time! Thanks for everything, Lelayna! ????
Lelayna was my doula for the birth of my fourth child. It was my first time giving birth outside of a hospital. She was very thorough in explaining my options, recommending resources that could help in developing my birthing plan. She held my hand every step of the way. She helped me to feel comfortable with the idea of having a natural birth.
She was intuitive in her approach and very knowledgeable. I felt that she was a strong advocate for me and spoke for me when I was too exhausted to. I highly recommend Lelayna's service as a doula. She has a warmth and naturalness that is so unique.
Thank you for helping me to feel safe during labor and helping my birthimg day to be an even more special one.
I have worked with Lelayna often in the past 2 years. The first thing you will notice about her is her positive attitude in the world. She approaches every situation w a smile and a can do. She is capable of physical and emotional support in every phase of the prenatal, birth and postpartum time period with an extensive skill set beyond that of most doulas. She is super reliable, always showing up genuinely excited for what each labor will bring, approaching each family with individual, caring attention.- Kate Aseron, head midwife Rising Moon Midwifery
In so many ways, Lelayna made our first birth amazing! She helped us labor at home for 16 hours. During that time, she didn't mind that I was in somewhat of a trance bouncing on a labor ball (that she brought with her, thank Goodness!) and watching Ted Kennedy's funeral on TV. She encouraged me, applied counter-pressure to my back, offered advice to take a shower, took a walk with us, and finally went to the hospital when I felt like it was time. Somehow she instinctively knew to step back, because about an hour before we left for the hospital she left our apartment and things really increased. I called her and she was back, helping me get through contractions on the way to the hospital. Then, we labored for 5 hours at the hospital and our baby was born!
I highly recommend her, because she is great at home and in the hospital. She knew I didn't want a wheelchair, so she walked next to me and informed people who tried to get me a wheelchair that I was fine and "just having a baby" which helped me stay calm. She didn't care that I made noises through each contraction and I didn't realize the noises were that bad until my husband said I was "the slut in the hospital!" haha When we got up to the labor room (I was 7cm when we got to the hospital), she continued to offer support through encouraging words, counter-pressure, and constant calm. It was nice to have her there continually while doctors and nurses would come in sporadically. I utilized breathing techniques we practiced and then for the actual delivery she held one leg up while my husband held the other. It felt like I was very supported and loved throughout the entire birth. My doctor shook her hand and mine after delivery, congratulating us on my natural birth experience, stating, "this hospital has one of the highest epidural rates."
She also took pictures after the birth, which I treasure. If she had not been there, no pictures.I am due to deliver again on June 1st, 2014 with her!
Lelayna attended the birth of my daughter, who was born in my home in 2010. During the months leading up the the birth, Lelayna intimately conversed with me regarding my birth plans and my questions. Though this was my second child and second home birth I recognized that each birth might bring new experiences. As my braxton hicks contractions transformed into the real contractions of labor, she was the first person that I got in contact with and was prepared immediately with her warmth, her incredible physical and emotional strength, and her knowledgable presence. She worked beautifully with my midwife, Robin Masters, and understood the delicate choreography of knowing when to step back and to be right there in the heat of things. Lelayna has a gentle strength that is required during the birth experience, and saw to it that I felt supported on so many levels. Were I have more children, which I hope to one day do, she will be immediately in my corner. I highly recommend Lelayna.
When my husband and I met Lelayna for the first time, we felt at ease with her immediately. She has a wonderful presence, warm and calming. After speaking with her for a little while, we were impressed with her varied experiences. We liked how she spoke about the births she attended, both huma and animal, and what she learned from each one. She gave us many helpful resources during our prenatal meetings, lending us books and movies about labor and delivery. She even guided us through creating a birth plan for the hospital. While in labor, she provided comfort, reassurance, and suggestions when requested. My husband appreciated the support she provided and the encouragment to do what felt natural for both of us. At one point, I felt like my labor had stalled, and Lelayna was instrumental in helping it progress. Towards the end, when my contractions became more intense, I remember looking at her smiling face and thinking, "I can do this!" I truly believe she made it easier for me to have a natural childbirth experience, which I wanted. I highly recommend her to other expecting families and plan to use her services again one day!
I really enjoyed having Lelayna as one of my doulas (she was pregnant with her first when we met with her, so she arranged for us to have a second doula as well to make sure that even if anything unexpected happened we would still have the support of a doula). My son's birth did not turn out how I had imagined because he was breech and we were unable to find any obgyns or midwives willing/able to attempt a natural birth, and I was so thankful to have my doulas to help me work through the idea that I might not end up with the birth I had envisioned.
Lelayna and Brooke helped me so much by offering many different suggestions for ways to help my baby turn (we tried yoga, chiropractic, laying upside down on doors, ECV with a doctor, waiting to see if baby would just turn naturally) and even though my baby never flipped around, I was so thankful just to have so many suggestions and to have my doulas on call to answer all my questions and listen to me as I thought through everything out loud. I felt very safe talking with Lelayna and never worried that she was judging or pushing me one way or the other in any decision - she listened and helped me and my husband have all the info we needed to make the best decision for our family.
On the day of my C-section, both doulas met me at the hospital and it felt much less scary just having them sitting nearby. I highly recommend hiring a doula, and Lelayna was extremely attentive and caring. I would definitely call her again when baby number 2 comes around!
I only had to interview one doula to know my perfect match was sitting in my living room. There is an energy around Lelayna that left me feeling peaceful and safe immediately. She has a calm and gentle demeanor that told me she would have a calming presence during my birth experience. Two years prior to the birth of my second, I had a traumatic experience in the hospital that ended in a c-section. It left me feeling nervous about having the right attitudes and energy with me the second time around. Lelayn did not hesitate for a moment about the fact that I wanted to have a v-bac experience at home with a midwife- I was thrilled to learn she knew my midwife and was training with her. Financially we were struggling to find the funds to have a homebirth with doula support, but Lelayna was willing to barter a portion of her fee.
During my pregnancy, she listened to my stories, my worries and my questions. She responded with love, compassion and advice when appropriate. She became a friend, a sister and a mother depending on my needs.
During the birth experience Lelayna seemed to follow my lead intuitively. When I needed her touch or encouragement she was there and when I needed to focus on my connection with my husband or myself she faded into the surroundings without leaving my side. Following the birth she helped me settle in and provided resources to ease the coming days. Her check-in visit was a welcomed reunion and a chance to revisit the positive experience I had.
You and your family will be thankful to have shared your birth experience with Lelayna. She is a member of our family and comes highly recommended.
