We interviewed 6 doulas before meeting Tuly. My husband and i immediately knew she was who we wanted to work with as a part of our birthing team. Her calm and attentive demeanor, sweet perspective, and thorough knowledge (and non-judgemental communication of it!!) were exactly what we were looking for in a doula, and ended up finding in a friend. We delivered at Mt Auburn with the Midwives and Tuly was there, fully and completely, every step of the way---from the 1am phone call telling her i was having regular contractions to the 11am delivery. She was a rockstar, bearing the full weight of my leg in the air for a good hour as I pushed!
Tuly helped me have the birth I wanted. I most certainly would have ended up with an epidural if it weren't for her. My husband and even our midwife picked up on her calming cues when she intuited I needed to hear her directing my breath. I could not have done it without her!!!! Could not recommend her more.
I cannot say enough good things about Tuly - she is amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable, responsive, warm, fun and friendly person. My husband and I immediately felt comfortable with Tuly and were so excited to have found her! She was there with us through the birth experience as a coach, warm presence and advocate with hospital staff. I recommend her highly with zero reservations - you will be super lucky to have Tuly as your birth doula. She is the best!
Tuly was extremely knowledgeable, professional caring and a calming voice throughout my pregnancy and delivery. She clearly has years of experience and gave me a lot of great and valuable information in our pre-visits. She has a very gentle way about her and with the vast knowledge and experience. She really put me at ease as I was a FTM looking to deliver naturally. She had a lot of ideas and techniques that she talked with me about and showed she has the experience to help me achieve my goal. However without any judgment when I mentioned epidural was not off the table.
On my delivery day she was calm cool and collected! Just what I needed. I looked to her for advice on what to expect next and she calmed me down when I was most scared and nervous. She helped me achieve my goal of delivering without epidural! Not sure I could have done it without her! I was SO happy she was there with me. I will definitely be calling when we have baby #2.
Tuly was an absolute pleasure to work with and felt like part of the family from Day 1! She was very well informed and had a calming demeanor that was helpful for an anxious first time mom. She spent almost 24 hours with us when I started feeling contractions, first meeting us swiftly at the hospital and then heading home with me to help me breath through contractions literally all through the night. She then returned to the hospital with us the following day and talked us through each step providing calming words and massages right up until I had my baby. She also kept my husband informed and calm, which was amazing! I couldn't recommend her more highly and will absolutely want her by my side again if we decide to have more children. We love her!
We so loved having Tuly guide us through our son's natural birth at MGH! Her emotional support and knowledge kept us sane and calm throughout.
Steady, calming, and knowlegeable, she helped us labor effectively at home and turn the baby before we headed to the hospital. Without her help turning the baby, I'm sure I would have labored for much much longer. We even had a lot of fun joking around during the early labor. It definitely helped me keep my mood up and stay resilient.
My husband loved working with Tuly as well. Having her there allowed him to focus on caring for me. It was also centering for him to have someone to talk to about how I was doing and to have time to rest during the labor knowing that I was well taken care of.
Tuly worked extremely well with the nursing staff at MGH (the doctors only showed up for any length of time to catch the baby and stitch me up). She trained at MGH so she knows some of the nurses and has an intimate knowledge of how the labor and delivery unit operates. As an aside, I'd definitely recommend MGH for natural births - they're so supportive!
I wouldn't trade the experience of laboring with Tuly for anything. It makes such a difference to have a phenemonal doula to guide labor!
Tuly is amazing! She helped deliver my daughter and I cannot say enough good things about working with her. My husband and I met her at a local "meet the doulas" night - she was the first and ony doula that we interviewed because we knew right away that she was a perfect fit. She is calm and nurturing and we immediately felt comfortable with her. We liked that Tuly is trained in hypnobirthing and was open to helping me use as much or as little of the hypnobirthing techniques as I wanted. She has a lot of tools in her toolbox, and that was just one of them! My labor was about 30 hours long and Tuly was by my side the entire time - it almost seemed like she got more energy as we got closer, not less. She came over to our house when I went into labor and helped me through 12 hours of very difficult back labor at home by assisting me in different positions, with the rebozo, aromatherapy, massage, etc. She was able to help me meet my goal of staying at home as long as possible and I was about 7cm dilated by the time I got to the hospital. At the hospital, I felt that Tuly worked very well with the team of medical professionals who delivered the baby, while still being an advocate for our family. I delivered at MGH and the midwife there was familiar with Tuly (having worked with her before) and trusted her completely. Every person who came into the delivery room would comment on how relaxing and calm it was (and how good it smelled from the essential oils that Tuly brought!). Two different nurses complimented her work and asked my husband and me how we had found her. The two prenatal visits and the one postpartum visit were all very helpful as well.
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of having Tuly as my doula during the labor and delivery of my third baby. It was important to me to include my husband in the birthing process as much as possible because he was deployed when my second son was born. Simply put, Tuly was amazing. She honored my wishes during labor and offered helpful insight with our birth plan. She visited me multiple times beforehand to make sure we felt comfortable with our plan to manage my labor naturally. My husband was grateful to have her there. She guided us through a 22-hour induced (but pain med-free) labor. She was positive, grounded, and helpful. When my labor stalled due to the malposition of my son, she used robozo to help shift his head and get things moving in the right direction. I can't recommend Tuly enough to any mother considering a doula. She is, without a doubt, worth her weight in gold. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to elaborate. We just love our Tuly!
Tuly is an awesome doula. Since our first meeting, my husband and I felt confident she was a great fit for us.
She has a very calming and reassuring energy and is very knowledgeable.
At 35 weeks my baby was not in the optimal position and Tuly taught us some exercises to make the baby turn and he did.
I had a 34 hour long labor and Tuly's presence was essential to support me with encouraging words, massages, exercises and es-sential oils. She was there for me and my family throughout the whole labor/birth experience. I know I wouldn't have such a posi-tive experience if it wasn't for her.
I truly recommend Tuly as a doula if you want a peaceful and beautiful birth experience.
We hired Tuly to be our doula when I was pregnant with our second child and wanted a much different experience than my first (induced and medicated) birth. I wanted to have an unmedicated birth if possible. She was great! She did two prenatal visits and was very responsive on the day of labor, especially considering I started having contractions at 2:30 in the morning. Tuly came to my house as soon as it was obvious I needed extra help and helped coach me through the contractions and give me pain relief in the form of massage. She also used her riboso to help position the baby to reduce back labor pains. When it was time to go to the hospital, she met us there and helped with positioning and encouring me that I could actually go through labor without medication (execpt for the antibiotics I had to take). She also helped communicate with the heath care professionals because by the time I was at the hospital, I was pretty non-verbal. She worked really well with my husband and it was amazing having a second support person (who has seen more than one birth before) there for me.
Tuly stayed through delivery and for about an hour afterwards. She also did a follow up post-natal visit with my newborn. I have to say, I had a fantastic experience with Tuly and if I would definitely hire her for my next pregnancy (if that happens)!
I cannot say enough great things about Tuly. I was hoping to have an un-medicated birth with my second child, and she was an amazing support in that regard. I am not sure I went through a single contraction without her pushing on my hips or massaging my back or legs to help make the contractions more bearable. Tuly was a calm and comforting presence throughout, and was able to answer many of my questions about the progress of my labor. She also was great at getting my husband involved. When my labor stalled out at 4cm, Tuly suggested trying to reposition the baby using her rebozo and some positioning. After working with her for a dozen contractions or so, my labor kicked into high gear. My water soon broke and my baby was born within the hour. I am certain that I would have used medications or had to have other medical interventions if Tuly was not there to support me and to help reposition my daughter. In the end, I had the birth I wanted, and both myself and the baby were happy and healthy.
Tuly was an incredible doula for us and our first child! I cannot recommend her enough. She is genuine, warm, confident, down-to-earth, good with doctors/nurses, and up-to-date on her information. Which was key for my scientist husband! She doesn't have an agenda for your birth--you can tell she truly wants what you want and will try her best to make that happen. I was undecided on natural v epi and Tuly never pushed me into a direction. However I can say that after my very first meeting with her, I felt empowered for the first time that I really COULD try naturally, if I wanted, and I felt great about it after learning that she could help me and the doctors take things really slowly. She had tips and tools (i.e. poses, Rebozo, and relaxing hypnobabies cd's for those interested--all of these things helped my nervousness tremendously!). And I felt sure that at any point, I could have an epi.
All this and I had a high risk baby--severe IUGR (0%), transferred from our local hospital to Brigham, induction at 38 wks, pitocin (it is hell), back labor, NICU and learned she had a rare heart defect that needed immediate open-heart surgery for her to live. Tuly was right there the whole way during pregnancy, birth, and after, helping us to cope (baby is great now!).
Being in a very medical hospital, the nurses and doctors can be pushy, but Tuly politely advocated that I have the time and space I wanted and the confidence to not feel pressured by them. I was able to labor naturally for many hours before the pitocin (and for a few hours after) and Tuly was fantastic. But in the end pitocin was just too much for me to handle and I switched to an epi. But during the hard times, she was right there helping me, calming me, and good at getting my husband involved. And she takes pictures! It was so crazy in there, hers is the only post-birth picture we have. And it's BEAUTIFUL!
You will be in good hands (literally!)
Tuly was a very kind and understadning Doula. The birth experience I had with my first child was bad enough to keep me off having children for life , so the second time round I decided to get a doula to help me manage my pain expectations the and to help me try and enjoy the birthing experience. We were very lucky to have her help us through the birth of our gorgeous daughter. From day one, we knew that she was a great fit for us. She is very happy to go with whatever you are comfortable with and is not very pushy when it comes to her opinions, which i greatly appreciated. What was most important to her was how comfortable I was feeling throughout the proccess and she catered to our every needs. Her advicce was invaluable and she coached me over the phone when my labour started initially as that was my preference, and as my labour progressed and I felt I needed her help she arrived very quickly and was very encouraging and helpful in the hospital from active labor phase straight through to the birth of our child.
Her pre-partum visits were very informative and she coached us through all the scenarious one can expect, and I used all of her techniques for pain control , which aided me tremendously throughout the labor process. She is very thorough and I had such a wodnerful birthing experience. I would recommend Tuly to anyone who wants a comfortable, informative and supportive birthing process. Thanks to Tuly , I no longer have a birth phobia , and i feel more confident in being able to have more children in the future. I am so glad that I now realise what a comfortalbe and pleasant experience birth can be when you have the right information, tools and suport system in place. For me, I found all of that in Tuly.
