I can't give Meagan enough praise!!! She is really the reason I was able to have my first baby without getting an epidural. Even if I did end up needing one I would want her with me!! I was laboring at home with some pretty uncomfortable back labor. Meagan came and used a rebozo on me to get the baby into a better position and after using that my back labor was almost completely gone!! It really helped things be more comfortable and got things moving along. She was very knowledgeable about when was a good time to start heading to the hospital. Right when we got to the hospital and I got checked to see how dialted I was my water broke immediately and I had my baby 2.5 hours later. The entire time she coached my husband and I how to be calm, breathe, and manage each contraction. My husband can't say enough great things about Meagan! He was worried at first about having a doula because he thought he would feel replaced, but that couldn't be farther from the truth! He loved having someone remind him how to best help me and that there was another pair of hands to push on my hips, help with the rebozo, etc. Also if he needed a break to run to the restroom or eat a granola bar real quick he liked knowing someone was with me. We all made a great team! I would use Meagan for every one of my births if I don't end up moving! Highly, highly recommend!
It was great to have Meagan as my duala during my preparation time and during the delivery. She is very responsible person and knowledgeable about methods to relief pain ( to have her massage my back helped relieve the pressure during the labor) and homeopathic remedies. She knows how clinical medicine works, what can work in what case. I was induced due to some risk of blood clote, so she explained me my options with what doctors use for that what are my homeopathic options. I'd describe Meagan as a skilled, attentive, kind duala and recommend her if you are looking for help with managing natural, healthy birth.
My first birth was traumatic and I wanted to give myself the best possible shot at a positive home birth experience. Meagan helped me to achieve that with her calm presence, birth knowledge, and encouragement.
When I’m in labor I rely on my birth team to keep me relaxed and focused. Meagan reminded me to release tension and breathe. I progressed quickly and ended up having my son after only 3 1/2 hours of labor. I truly believe my labor was so quick and productive because my birth team kept me focused. Meagan was a great help.
She also helped to keep my 2 year old son calm when he was nervous about what was going on. I was so worried he would be traumatized, but he loves talking about when his baby brother came out of mommy’s belly! When he was worried about me she told him that mommy has to roar like a lion to get his baby brother here. Genius! He has fond memories of the birth because of Meagan and that is huge to me.
I am so happy Meagan was a part of my family’s birth experience.
The delivery of our first born left us nervous about having to go through the process again. To make a long story short, nothing traumatic actually took place during that delivery, we just weren’t ready for the emotional toll it brought. We wanted to try and prepare ourselves this time around especially since it was likely my husband would be out of town, unable to attend the birth. I instantly thought of Meagan. I had met her a couple years earlier and remembered she was a Doula. After talking with her she encouraged us to look into other doulas in the area as she wanted to make sure we had the right fit for us. That gesture itself showed me how much she truly cares about the comfort of each woman searching for their right support team. I read through many doula profiles but continually came back to Meagan’s. If I hadn’t had the pleasure of knowing Meagan before, I would have insisted on meeting with her as her profile was so in line with what I felt I needed to help me and my husband go forward in my pregnancy.
In the months leading up to delivery Meagan checked in on us regularly and gave us plenty of resources. We were able to develop a relationship with her and found comfort in knowing she would be there with me when I went into labor. When my birth plan started to go off track weeks before delivery she was great to help me understand my options. She became my go to when I found myself stressed and in need of an outlet. No matter what “issue” came about, Meagan was professional.
During my delivery Meagan truly became my savior. She coached, encouraged and empowered me so much. Her presence made it easy for me to focus on nothing but bringing my sweet baby into the world. My delivery would not have gone as smooth had it not been for her keeping my mind at ease. I cannot thank her enough for the role she played in my pregnancy and delivery. She will forever have a place in our family.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience having Meagan as our doula. As a first time mom, I wanted to have a support team that didn't rely solely on my husband. I was determined to have a natural, non-medicated birth, and I felt that the best way to achieve that was to hire a doula. Meagan came highly recommended to us by a family friend and we felt comfortable with her upon our meeting for the first time. She was great about keeping in touch during my pregnancy, and when the day came to birth our son, she was there every step of the way. Meagan is very professional, and highly educated on different methods and mechanisms of relief during labor and delivery. I attribute my success in a natural birth largely in part to her. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula, and if we decide to have more children in the future, she will be on our speed dial.
If anyone is even contemplating having a doula to help them in there next pregnancy/delivery, I would tell you.... YES! Do it! And if anyone asks me who I'd recommend it would be Meagan Portmann!
I really didn't know what to expect when I decided to use Meagan's doula expertise. After all, this was my second pregnancy. I pretty much was an expert at baring children, right???!!! More like, yeah right! When we started meeting and working on my birth plan (which I never even knew was a thing) I felt more confident this second time around. Oh my goodness, the massages!! I had the worst swollen feet the last month of my pregnancy. Meagan gave me amazing hand and foot rubs with her essential oils! She took such great care of me.
When it came time to deliver my handsome baby boy Meagan was there at 4am to help assist my husband. Whenever he was preoccupied and/or slacking lol, Meagan stepped right in to assist me during my bad back contractions. She was supportive but not pushy. She never told the doctor how to do his job. She was there strictly for me and my baby To make sure I had the best experience possible in welcoming him into the world.... Have I also mentioned she is an amazing photographer?! I have the most beautiful pictures of an incredible moment in time that I will never forget! I will be using Meagan again in the future and I hope so will you! Thank you Meagan you are truly The best!
I just want to start out by expressing how wonderful Meagan Portmann is as a doula and as a person. I truly feel like I had a friend by my side during my labor.
My husband is very timid and doesn't like to get involved and she helped in getting him involved so I could have a great experience. Although my labor was very short she was able to help me in the most difficult part. And I'm very glad I called her on the phone when I started to feel contractions and she was able to convince me to leave to the hospital. If I hadn't gone in when I spoke to her I might have had my baby at home or in the car. She made it to the hospital just a few minutes after we got there and gave me strength and support while I needed to push, when I just wanted to give up. She kept reminding me of our birth plan. All I wanted was to see my little bundle of joy and hold him in my arms and if I hadn't had her there to push me and remind me of my goal and to picture myself on a nice warm Beach I probably would have stopped pushing and give up. She also focused on helping my husband get involved and they both helped me get through contractions doing pressure points. I truly recommend Meagan Portmann if you are having your first baby or have been very disappointed or discouraged in a past birth. I wish I would have known about Doulas when I had my first baby. And because of her we now also have beautiful memories saved of our kids birth. Because not just anyone wants to go in and take pictures of your sweet little baby right as he came out of the womb. They are truly treasures to enjoy in the near future :) thank you Meagan!!
I honestly did not know what a Doula was until Meagan Portmann explained it to me. I decided to give it a try. I had 3 kids already and pregnant with my 4 and thought I knew the ins and outs of giving birth, I was WRONG!!!After meeting with Meagan and setting up my birth plan I truly felt like I was in control for the first time. Meagan was so attentive to me and to my husband she provided extra emotional support for both of us and the knowledge she provided throughout the pregnancy was truly eye opening. When it was time to go in to have our baby we found out that the baby was breech and I needed to have a C-section, I have always given birth vaginally so when they said that I was to have a C-section I was really scared and confused but this is when my Doula Meagan shined. Meagan was such a huge support to me through this whole process I don't know what I would have done without her. I would reccomend a doula to anybody having a baby I would Highly recomend Meagan Portmann because she was truly amazing and I wouldn't consider going through the birth experience again withought Meagan Portmann as my Doula.
I was connected with Meagan through a friend on Facebook. I really wanted to have a natural birth, so I thought having a doula by my side would help me. I ended up receiving an epidural because my contractions were so intense and my labor was quite long since it was induced. However, Meagan stayed by my side the entire time, and she was even pregnant herself! She helped me by giving an incredible, and I mean INCREDIBLE, foot massage that eased my contractions as well as pushing on pressure points that helped my body relax through excruciating labor pains. She also knows her breathing techniques that helped me give my baby more oxygen. I had so much back labor with my son and Meagan's techniques reduced the pain by half, seriously. She was so positive, funny, and encouraging.
If you're considering a doula, I would 100% go with Meagan because she knows what she is doing and has an unbelievable amount of love, concern, and patience. My husabnd and I wish we could fly her up to Utah for our next baby! Haha. We loved having her as a part of our birth team and she helped to make my birth a wonderful, positive experience.
I had my first baby at age 20 and being in the hospital for the first time I was so scared and even though I asked questions and tried to study as much as I could of giving birth I was not prepared and some things went horrible due to what I think was "lack of knowledge" and listening to others opinions on MY birth. After finding out I was pregnant for the second time I was scared and nervous a lot of things would repeat themselves. Meagan came into my life at the most perfect time! She helped with all my questions and relieved my anxiety about the birth of my baby. She was always on call and very prompt and proffesional at every visit and was even there with us in the hospital to assist with false labor.
At the time when labor really started she stayed all night and helped me with every contraction to ease the pain. She even showed my husband how he could help me. It made labor ten times easier. At the time of delivery she was by my side cheering me on and it helped a lot. She even took pictures of my baby being born and us bonding with her. It was so nice. Something we didn't get before. I truly recommend and would use her again in another birth.
As much as having a doula sounds like a luxury it was more than that. It was a neccesaty and my experience giving birth was not traumatising. I will be using Meaggan again :)
