I can’t say enough about my experience with Heather as our doula. From the moment I met her, I felt like I’d known her for years. Heather’s positive energy and passion for childbirth came accross immediately. I couldn’t wait to introduce her to my husband because I knew he would feel the same way. It’s amazing that we didn’t meet until late in my third trimester - in fact, I didn’t even know what a doula was at the beginning of my pregnancy. But, once I researched how helpful a doula is, I had to have one, and I‘m so thankful I chose Heather. My goal was to have a healthy, positive, unmedicated childbirth - and that dream came true. Heather provided tons of helpful information before my delivery - but the real magic was having her by my side during the birth. She and my husband worked beautifully together, and I’ve never felt so supported. I highly recommend Heather as a doula. If we are blessed with more children - I will absolutely have her by our side.
We were so fortunate to be introduced to Heather as a "back-up" doula in case the doula who had been with us for our son's birth was unable to attend. Looking back now, I can't imagine not having Heather with us for the birth of our daughter. She was always very responsive and she provided excellent insight, recommendations and support to my questions and concerns. I let her know when my water broke and I felt like things were progressing quickly, our plan was to let her know when we were admitted so she could come to the room. By the time I was seen in triage, I was 7 cm and my husband texted her and she came immediately! My husband and my mom were with me, but having Heather's knowledge and experience were invaluable to all of us. She helped guide and suggest things that both my mom and husband oould do to support me, as well as providing support herself. She helped me (and my mom and husband!) feel calm and in control during labor. We ended up having a traumatic delivery (big baby!), but through it all Heather remained calm, cool and collected and that gave me strength. All turned out fine, but I know having Heather there to help explain what had happened, what was happening and what we could expect going forward, while the midwife and nurses were busy, was such a huge relief to us. Whether as part of a birth team as she was with us, or as your sole support, you can't ask for a better person to have with you during labor and delivery. Her support post-partum, especially when I was home was incredible. I felt like she was one of the few people that I could really talk with about my birth experience, which was not as positive as I would've hoped due to the complications. She literally gave me her shoulder to cry on and after talking with her I was able to look at the birth in a more positive way. We will forever be grateful to have had Heather with us!
There are not enough words to explain my gratitude for Heather and her services as a doula with our second son who was born just 7 days ago. At 20wks pregnant I decided to switch providers and take a leap of faith to attempt a VBAC. As soon as I made that decision I knew I needed to hire a doula and wanted that extra support and encouragement. I began researching late one night and came across Heathers page and testimonies. As soon as i read them and then reached out to her and she got right back to me I knew in my heart she was who we needed at our birth and on our birth team.
She didnt hesistage at all in being open and honest with us and immediately supporting my birth desires and believing in my body and in this attempt at a VBAC and different birth experience than I had the first time. I felt a sense of confidence i can not describe once hiring Heather and loved having someone I could contact with whatever questions came up or just to have someone to talk things through with. My husband before meeting heather was skeptical of Doulas and then after our first meeting was so relieved and excited to also have her working with us and saw that it was a need for us both! Heather did a wonderful job in always inclusing my husband too!
When it came down to the birth Heather was amazing and brought me such a sense of peace even just when I went into labor. She arrived at the hospital and labored with me and made me feel so confident in what I was doing. I truly believe my birth would have gone differently without Heather and that she was a HUGE aid in my successful VBAC of my son! I would hire her again in a heartbeat and believe all women should have that support that Heather brings and so should their partners.
Birth is is a wild ride and so unpredictable but with hiring a doula like Heather I knew i could predict to have support, knowledge and guidance with me and that was key!
After the labor of my first daughter did not go as planned I knew I needed a doula who would be emotionally supportive during the time leading up to birth and during my delivery. I was hoping to experience a healing labor and delivery this pregnancy. During our pre-birth meetings Heather was always so positive and reassuring and lent a feeling of familiarity, I always felt as if I was chatting with an old friend and getting honest and genuine guidance. My labor and delivery was unexpectedly fast and there were many times I needed Heather to bring me back to center and help refocus my energy and efforts. She was so encouraging and calm and I am so grateful she was a part of our homebirth.
Heather is proof that having a doula you connect with is invaluable to the birth process. From day one Heather was attentive, kind, knowledgeable, and fun! I always felt comfortable telling her my worries and asking questions. I was nervous as a first time mom and Heather was always able to put me at ease and remind me that I was capable of having the birth I wanted. During labor Heather was a source of calming energy and support. I really do not think I could have done it without her. After birth Heather still made herself available for visits and any questions I may have as a new mother. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Heather is, and I highly recommend her as a doula, just a wonderful person that any mom would be blessed to have at her side during birth.
I would highly recommend Heather if you are looking for a doula. I decided i wanted a doula about a month out from my due date and Heather's testimonials are what helped me decide she was the right person for me. Heather is very professional and supportive in whatever birthing process you have selected. I had my birth plan ready to go and of course it did not go as planned.I was scheduled to be induced early and Heather helped me out tremendously. I don't think i could have done it without her! If we decide to have another baby i would definitely call Heather again!
I cannot recommend Heather highly enough! During the end of my pregnancy she helped to prepare me for the big day. Everything from exercises/positions, decisions I would need to make and even things to include in my hospital bag that no one else suggested. Like most first time pregnant women, you're not really sure what to expect when the time comes. Heather was on standby 24/7 to answer any/all of my questions and checked in with me frequently to see how things were going.
Most importantly, she was an amazing coach/friend throughout labor. When the nurses were unavailable, she was on top of it. She truly knows what she's doing! I think the world of her and couldn't imagine not having her there!
I chose Heather at a doula speed dating event because I adored her personality immediately. She is upbeat and positive and has a contagious laugh. I knew I would want her positivity and joy lighting up my delivery room! Heather was available via phone for weeks before my pregnancy. She answered all of my questions and gave me resources as well. Heather shared her personal experiences with me and made me feel as though I had gained a friend, not just a doula. When I found out my baby was breach, I was disappointed. I was so excited to have a natural birth that it was hard for me to let go of that dream (for now). Heather was there for me every step of the way! She let me "debrief" with her after my doctor's appointments and hospital visit (for an unsuccessful ECV). She never seemed to get tired of supporting me emotionally. She talked me through my options and helped me feel confident in my birth decisions. Heather was there for me at the hospital and spent time with me postpartum to help me with my recovery. If you are looking for a dedicated, compassionate, patient, kind doula, Heather is the one! She has a heart of gold (: I will be using her for my next birth for sure! Thank you, Heather!
Words can not describe how amazing Heather is as a doula and as a person. Her presence was magical and calming. She always made me feel strong, safe and confident during my birthing experience. When I first meet Heather, I knew right away she was the right fit for me. She has such a wonderful energy! We meet several times during my pregnancy to talk about the birth plan and how she could help. It was very easy to form a friendship with Heather and by the time I was in labor and in a very vulnerable situation, Heather was more like family by my side. When I went into labor and needed Heather, she was there right away and stayed by my side for 14 plus hours. She helped me through my many contractions by alleviating the pain by putting pressure on my hips with her hands. Her calm words also helped me through the waves of contractions. Heather is priceless in so many ways!
Heather again served as my doula for the birth of my second daughter. This natural labor and delivery was much different than the first birth I experienced with Heather's help. My first birth was intense, but felt very peaceful...this time intense cannot begin to describe it. I arrived to triage and walked for a few hours with my husband because I did not think I was really in labor yet, so my husband said maybe we could wait and walk some before calling Heather...in case we had to go home. After walking a few hours I was 7cm dilated. I could barely speak and was begging my husband for an epidural. He had already called Heather though by this point...so right when I felt that nothing could help me calm down, nothing could help me focus, and I really wanted to give up she arrived! Immediately upon seeing her walk toward me I breathed the biggest sigh of relief. She walked right up to me, fell in sync with me and the contractions and walked me to my room (I was still walking the halls and waiting to be assigned a room at this time). The entire time she kept telling me that I could do it and not to lose my focus. I did not ask again for an epidural. I never did have to use my code word! Just knowing Heather was by my side gave me strength. Once we got in to my room Heather helped me through each subsequent contraction reminding me to surrender to the pain and sink into my contractions. She helped me walk to the bathroom, sit in bed, lay in bed, crawl around in bed whatever brought momentary relief at the time...all while keeping a calm head and composure. Nothing could phase her...she just helped through whatever came next. My husband said he was so distraught and felt lost because no one else would/could take the time to help me at all. So, needless to say, he was beyond relieved when she arrived to help! Moral of the story....definitely have a doula in your corner...and call her right away!!!
Heather is an amazing doula! She provided me with so much support during pregnancy, throughout many false alarms, and was with me all day during my labor. I was a VBAC and she provided the best encouragement throughout the whole very trying experience. She had no problem getting into several uncomfortable positions to help me remain as comfortable as possible. I wanted an all natural birth (not even iv pain meds), and she helped me achieve that dream. I was ready to give up multiple times, and she took my hands and helped me get my head back into the game. I have no doubt that without her by my side (and behind me, and in front of me, and literally supporting my weight a few times) I would not have been able to have a successful VBAC! She is such a great source of strength to pull from.
Heather is a very professional, supportive and caring doula! She had obviously found her calling as a doula. I can't imagine giving birth to my sweet baby girl without her there, helping me through each phase. She took a non judgmental approach when I decided an epidural was necessary to carry me through the remainder of my labor. She discussed options with me, as she knew that I wanted to try to go without an epidural. She helped me through my contractions prior to the epidural, providing several different positions and maneuvers to alleviate the pain. She has also been very helpful post birth with breast feeding support...even in the middle of the night! I definitely highly recommend her to anyone and everyone planning to have a baby!
I was very fortunate and blessed to find Heather. When I was six months pregnant I relocated to Tallahassee due to a highly stressful circumstance and separation. I had felt discouraged and hopeless in finding a successful doula in such short notice. Lucky for me, someone had recommended Heather and oddly enough it turns out we had met before. Heather knew my mother and I felt both a feeling of awe at what a small world it is as well as a sign of fate that Heather would fit well in my birth plan.
Even though we did not get to know each other till my last trimester we still created a connection before the birth. Layla, my midwife, saw us at my prenantal appointment and said "aw you two are too cute!" based on our conversation.
I remember telling Heather at our first meet "I just want someone who I can throw up on, poop, fart on or whatever" and Heather totally laughed and said of course! relating me to her past experiences with her doula and how she wanted to provide the same tremendous experience. I knew I could count on her to hold my hair back for me ;)
Carter Rey George decided he wanted to come 4 days early on a night when Heather had not been feeling her best. Though we had a back up doula planned Heather was able to gather strength to be there for me.
She came to my home during my labor and provided me comfort with her knowledge and advice. Made phone calls to my midwife and a plan of when we would leave. Heather literally lent me her knee as a I contracted, reminded me to relax and sink into the contractions.
When we got to the Birth Cottage I stepped out the car and said I could not make it inside. That I would birth the baby in the parking lot. Heather lent her arm and encouraged and motivated me inside. Once inside Heather was there for me as I begged to get in the tub, made sure the water was warm and provided me emotional support both during and after the birth. Heather was a trooper!
Once I met with Heather, to discuss her doula services, I immediately felt at ease and comfortable. She was so easy to talk to, she listened to my concerns, answered my questions and offered advice. I did not feel rushed or judged, and I felt she had my best interests at heart. Heather was able to make me feel empowered and so excited about having a natural childbirth. I knew that choosing to work with her was the best decision I could make for my labor experience. Heather kept in touch with me, checked in with me, asked me how I was feeling, how I was eating, how I was dealing with life/stress, etc. These small gestures showed how much she truly cares about what she does.
When my labor finally began, Heather met me at the hospital and was right by my side from the start. Her calm presence and reminders to breathe were invaluable. My husband and mother were also there, but they were both so nervous and excited it was difficult for them to focus on helping me breathe and relax through contractions. Heather was able to help me find a comfortable position for each contraction and when something was not working she helped me figure out what would. The nurses and doctor did not push anything and respected my birthplan. I was allowed to labor naturally and have intermittent monitoring only. This was so important because I was able to be up and move which helped tremendously. When it came to discussing things with the nurses Heather was able to speak on my behalf which helped me stay calm and focused. The most memorable part of my contractions was hearing "Breathe for your baby". That is what it came down to and Heather was the one who helped me focus inwards, breathe through each contraction, and rest during each break, and when I said "I can't do this" she said "Yes You Can, you're almost there". And with her help I did!
