My wife, Kristen, and I are incredibly grateful for Rauna's guidance and calming energy as our doula.

Kristen and I wanted to have someone 'on our team' who would be a caring and grounding presence. Rauna was all that and then some. When I began to feel overwhelmed or panicked during the birth, Rauna helped me remain present and receptive so that I could be the supportive birth companion my wife needed me to be.
Rauna helped Kristen embrace the twists and turns of the birth process as they arose. Kristen says Rauna helped her embrace all of her birth story without self judgement. Rauna was a stabilizing influence for Kristen, offering wisdom and understanding to Kristen through an experience that I literally can't understand.

Rauna allowed us to own the birth process, which is what my wife wanted -- we are so incredibly thankful for her. Absolutely choose Rauna as your doula.

My husband and I were blessed to have Rauna as our doula for our second pregnancy and the birth of our second child.  She took time to get to know our family and our goals for our little girl's birth.  As we shared, Rauna demonstrated all the traits we knew we needed a doula to have for our delivery: knowldege, caring, patience, humor, and empowerment.  And when labor began, Rauna exceeded our expectations.  As I labored, Rauna assumed her duties with a caring and calm presence that helped us through.  She was a great coach and advocate for both me and my husband.

Hi Rauna,

Rauna has been working with our twins since they were four weeks old and has skillfully continued to meet their needs as they change and grow. She has been an incredibly valuable asset for our entire family providing valuable resources, ideas and techniques for caring for our twins, which has been vital to our role as first time parents. Our kiddos are always happy and well rested after her doula visits, even on their most challenging days, due to her experience and nurturing demeanor. Rauna is an instantly calming force that sets them at ease. She's also very diligent in completing any household tasks we've needed. We highly recommend Rauna for any twin or singleton needs.

Rauna was an integral part of my pregnancy and the delivery of our daughter. Both my husband and I are so happy that we decided to hire her; she was a lifesaver! From her prenatal visits that helped us prepare for labor and delivery to her availability to answer questions throughout my pregnancy, Rauna did a great job in helping us feel confident as we embarked on the exciting adventure of welcoming our first child into the world.

Rauna was a source of calm encouragement as I labored, helping me to stay focused during each contraction. She gave me the confidence I needed to face seemingly endless hours of labor. She helped my husband to support me and also provided much needed relief for him during my 24+ hour labor. When it came to making medical decisions, Rauna was a wonderful sounding board as she helped us to think through our options. We never felt pressured by her, and it was a great help to have Rauna support us each step of the way. While my birth story didn't unfold how we expected, I am confident we made the best decisions for me and our daughter and largely thanks to Rauna, we have no regrets about how things unfolded.

Rauna will always be dear to us, as she helped us welcome our precious baby girl into this world. We couldn't have asked for a better doula and we highly recommend her for anyone considering a doula!

If you are looking for a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental Doula, then Rauna is the right choice for you. Late in my pregnancy, I had a number of challenges: possible high blood pressure and the need for induction, the death of my mother in law from cancer, and our older child started showing signs of autism. Rauna provided my husband and me with emotional support through text and email to cope during those challenging weeks. During labor, she knew exactly how to support my husband and me. She was calm and compassionate but also politely assertive when needed. While I needed an induction, I was able to avoid an epidural thanks to her support.

We also had some challenges in the postpartum period, and Rauna was able to step in and provide postpartum Doula care for our family. When she came to our house, she would Survey the situation and jump into action. Often times she seem to know what I needed more than I knew myself; she's very flexible and could switch from caring for the baby or our older daughter to folding laundry and helping the newborn photographer easily.

We give Rauna our highest recommendation as a birth and postpartum Doula and if we decide to have a third child, we would immediately get on her calendar.

From a first-time mom and medical professional, if you are on the fence about hiring a doula, I would recommend it.  My husband and I only interviewed a couple of doulas - but Rauna was the obvious choice for us. We had good ideas about what we wanted for the birth, but I doubted my ability to execute the plan once in labor.  We don't have much family close, and neither have actually been to a birth.  Rauna was great - easygoing with our two tempramental dogs, open to listening about our plans, and there to help when of course everything did not go as planned. We did manage a non-epidural hospital birth as hoped -thanks in part to her awesome support and encouragement when the pain increased. She provided wonderful support for both of us in the delivery room- from the simple cool washcloth to supporting me when Dad got a bit light headed (for you first time dads, if you are watching closely, this can happen! Strong stomach or not - it's your partner and baby spewing blood and fluid!) Overall, we were very glad she was there during the whole delivery and we'd definitely recommend hiring her.

My husband and I feel so grateful that we had the privilege to work with Rauna during and after the pregnancy of our first child. We decided to work with Rauna because of her experience, her calm demeanor, and her sweet spirit. The first time we met her we felt very comfortable with her, and we were able to talk easily with her about our hopes for the pregnancy and birth, as well as our concerns. I was very worried during the first trimester because of a previous miscarriage, and Rauna was such a wonderful resource for our (many) questions. My husband and I worked with Rauna during the pregnancy to prepare ourselves to labor without pain meds, but then at 36 weeks we discovered during a prenatal appointment that baby girl was breech. I was devastated by the realization that my birth plan was going to be radically different from what I had been hoping. I called Rauna right away and she was so supportive and encouraging. The c-section was scheduled for 39 weeks, and we were all ready to have Rauna be with us during the birth, but then baby girl had other ideas and i went into labor at 38 weeks. When we arrived at the hospital, the exam revealed that I would need to go into surgery immediately. We walked into the hospital at 6:30 am and baby girl was delivered at 8:00 am. It was a complete whirlwind and we did not have any time to call Rauna, or our jobs, or even our families until after the delivery. I wish things had gone a little bit slower so we could have had Rauna with us, but she came to see us after the birth. After everything that had happened, Rauna brought a feeling of calmness and joy into our room.

Following our hospital stay, Rauna came to our house to help us. It was amazing!! She helped us around the house, and answered questions, and even took our two little dogs for a walk. She was such a support to us as I recovered from surgery and as we got to know this beautiful new addition to our family. Rauna is a wonderful doula!

Rauna is a kind, caring, and supportive doula. From the moment I met her, I felt comfortable and knew I wanted to work with her. My pregnancy was very emotional, since this is my only living child following infant death and miscarriage. Rauna helped me prepare for birth by talking about my hopes and fears which built my confidence in preparation for birth. My baby was breech presentation, and Rauna was there for the version (flipping the baby). She was able to calm and stay with my husband when things didn't go as planned. Rauna also attended my c section and kept me calm and stayed with me while my hubby was with baby at the warmer. If you are considering hiring a doula, pick Rauna to make sure you have the best birth experience possible.

Rauna was a crucial and instrumental part of our postpartum period with our son. She helped us get through some of the roughest weeks as new parents. Not only giving us respite for sleep, she encouraged us, reassured us, and brought an overall calming vibe to our chaotic, sleep deprived home! Rauna was not only gentle and sweet with our son, but us too! I looked forward to seeing her and she would give me a smile that would make me feel like it was all gonna get better. We are eternally grateful for Rauna and all of the help and guidance she has given us along the way!

My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Rauna for the birth of our first child in July, 2016. From the very first meeting, we knew we had made a match with a professional that would provide us support in a flexible, nurturing, re-assuring and informative way. As we continued to work together over the months leading up to the birth and in the delivery room, our experience and relationship proved to be all that we could hope for and more.

Rauna's approach can be described as warm, nurturing, confident and flexible. She was someone who helped me to meet my intentions for the birth process, while knowing I could change my mind and trust my intuition without concern that "we had agreed to a plan." Rauna made herself available to us for questions throughout the pregnancy and anticipated questions/resources we would benefit from discussing.

When it came time for our son's birth, Rauna successfully coached my husband and myself throughout all the stages and was our constant. Her support, encouragement and calm from start through the unexpected made for a birth experience that we look back on with fond memories and utter joy. Since the birth, she has continued to be a resource and source of encouragement. All in all, we give Rauna our highest recommendation because she joined our family's experience seamlessly and with such positive energy. This includes how she interacted with our one year old, large breed, puppy- which was important knowing we would be laboring at our house for some portion and wanted an individual who be able to slip in to our setting.

We had a great experience with Rauna. She is very patient and a great listener. She answered all of the pre-birth questions we had when we met in person. Rauna is prompt in responding to questions via  text/email, and we knew we could count on her when the time came. During the birth her presence was key, she provided great support to my husband and I knew that she was there for me. She was an advocate when I needed her. AND, she has the softest hands to hold throughout the process. :)

Rauna was an invaluable support for us before, during, and after our birthing experience. She is so good at what she does. When we met with her prior to going into labor, she was reassuring and informative. It was very easy to feel comfortable with Rauna. When I went into labor, Rauna spent several hours at our house, helping us labor at home for as long as possible. She was an amazing mental and physical support during that time. When it was time to go to the hospital, she followed us there and continued to be the perfect calming and reassuring presence throughout our hospital experience. Rauna was a major support for both of us as I ended up having an epidural and Pitosin, and ultimately a C-section birth. We were so grateful to have her with us, helping us to advocate for ourselves and understand what was going on during a naturally overwhelming experience. It would have been a much more stressful time without her guidance and support. Once we were back home with our new family member, Rauna visited us and was available to answer any questions we had regarding feeding, soothing, and caring for our baby. I would highly recommend Rauna as a doula to anyone! We absolutely loved having her as a part of our birthing experience!

Rauna was just what I needed during my pregnancy and birth of our first kiddo. If you're looking for someone to encourage, support, and urge you on without coming across like a peppy cheerleader, she's your gal! Her personality was the perfect fit to my laid back and introverted self. Our meetings before being admitted to the hospital were calmimg and incredibly informative and her wealth of knowledge gave me confidence in my pregnancy and afterwards. She was 100% supportive of how I wanted things to go during labor and she was 100% supportive when things took a 180 degree turn. I was so thankful to have her familiar face with my husband and I in the delivery room since we went through 2 doctor's and half a dozen nurses. She was a great aid in keeping me mobile and managing contractions. After I had an epidural, she was lovely company and a great conductor of what my husband could do to best be prepared for baby. I was incredibly impressed by Rauna's stamina and ability to stay in the game during my 20 hours or so of labor (!) and when a cesarean became necessary I was so relieved to have her stand by us. A c section was of course the last thing I wanted or anybody expected and since I had never had any kind of medical emergency or surgery before, I was beyond thankful to have her by my side holding my hand during the operation. Rauna stuck around for a while afterwards and more than fulfilled her expected role as my doula. Her steller "performance" has secured her in my mind as a necessity for any more kids to come! My husband, who was unsure of doula services at first, couldn't agree more.

We were on the fence about getting a doula at all, wondering what they were for exactly if your partner is gung ho and supportive.  Boy are we glad we did.  And even gladder that we were blessed to be matched with Rauna.  She was a perfect match for two high strung types such as us- lots of questions, etc.  She is so calm, kind, accepting, and encouraging.  It was a gift to have her unlimited availability via text and email through the pregnancy.  When it was go-time, Rauna walked us through early labor like a champ, supporting my husband who was supporting me. When she came to the hospital, she got to work like a pro- expertly working with staff and my husband to fully support me.  I really cued into her voice and presence through out process.  I had some major curve balls and challenges in my labor and she helped me meet them in empowering ways, rather than to passively feel something was happening to me.  She is a rock in the storm that the surprising and overwhelming aspects of birth can be.  It was priceless to have her for my husband because they could work together and also relieve each other for rest/ food to gather energy.  A day that could have been traumatic or nightmarish ended up the best day of my life.  She played a big part in how proud And triumphant we feel about our birth story.  Her follow up visit was really an amazing experience too, a chance to talk about the birth, ask questions, and to have the shock of new parenthood normalized.  We will always have a major love for Rauna and would not hesitate to seek her servic s again.  Highly recommended, especially for stress cases.  Such a calm, balancing, strong balancing force.  Don't let her sweetness fool ha. she is one strong woman!

Rauna brought the peace and calm I needed to my birth experience.  She was quick to get back to me whether by email or text and readily available if I wanted to meet with her. Not only did I find her a comforting calm pressence but my husband and 4 year old son also found her easy to connect with.  During the beginning stages of labor Rauna was consistently checking in on me and sharing her experience and knowledge about where I was at and what was going on always allowing me to do what I felt was the best for me and our baby.  Because things were not progressing at home, Rauna helped me develop a plan for what time to check in at the hospital without raising my anxiety levels or making me feel like something was going wrong.  At the hospital the Doctors suggested trying some different types of medications to help get contractions going. I was able to consult with Rauna about what I should do. This made me feel like I was in control and could make an informed decision rather than being bullied by the doctors and their plans.  Rauna kept saying just let me know when you need me and I'll be there.  I remember texting her to not worry about coming yet because the doctors where leaving me alone and nothing was happening.  Then they gave me the drug.  Within 10 min I found myself being wheeled down the hall for an emergency c-section and somehow my husband was able to let Rauna know and she was by my side holding my hand keeping both my husband and myself calm. She really was there when I needed her. She continued by my side all through recovery and made sure I was settled in before she left.  Since coming home from the hospital she has checked in with me weekly to see how things are going.  Rauna is an amazing support. She was able to read me and the situation and respond in a kind, caring and calming manner. She is a must have.

I was in the good but bad position of being a much older mother for the first time and also being a medical professional. It made the whole pregnancy and birth experience fraught with anxiety, as I knew a lot of medical information, but had never experienced any of it first-hand. I was determined to have a regular birth and really wanted to avoid any c-section.

My experience before delivery meeting Rauna for the two pre-partum visits was great. It allowed us to get to know her background, knowledge, and energy level. For me, it was important to have a voice of reason during the storm of delivery. My husband was a great support, but also had no experience in childbirth. Rauna's presence allowed us to get physical and emotional support with an eye to "what happens next."

My baby's birth was great and we were able to achieve our most important goal of safe mom and safe baby. Even more, though, as the labor progressed and it was looking like baby didn't like the final several contractions right before birth, she was able to help the nurse get me into optimal position for pushing and we had a successful non-surgical birth!

My advice is to strongly consider Rauna as another advocate, besides yourself and your partner, especially for first-time birthers who don't even know what to advocate for. She was able to help me decision-make when it just feels like all decisions are difficult to impossible as you are distracted by fear and pain. I really appreciated her experience and relied on it to guide what decisions to make to get the outcome I most wanted.

I cannot recommend her enough!

Rauna is AMAZING!!!! I cannot recommend her enough! My husband and I both had the stomach flu prior to delivery. I was hospitalized for fluids twice before my actual delivery. My husband was sick the day my water broke, but still managed to get us to the hospital. Once we got there, he collapsed on the chair and I would've been in dire straights without Rauna. She took such good care of me. I was not at my strongest due to the flu and she was my rock. She walked the halls with me, encouraged me, reinforced my wishes for a natural delivery without intervention, was extremely cordial and friendly with all the hospital staff, gave me a variety of birthing positions I had never tried before with my two other deliveries, kept up the conversation when I really needed someone to talk to me (husband was comatose on the chair...LOL!), massaged my back, spoke gently and calmly even when I was a beast (natural delivery even the third time around is no joke!) and did everything I needed her to do. She is a true professional and nothing ruffled her feathers. Whenever I think of Rauna, I just get a warm feeling. She is someone I will never forget and we owe her so much. I truly cannot recommend her enough!

Rauna is so perfect!  She's kind, informative, a great listener, gentle, encouraging, and so much more.  We met with Rauna twice before giving birth, and she offered us so much information about what to expect and how she'll be our advocate.  She was patient and enthusiastic about answering all of our questions.  At the hospital, Rauna helped me change positions every hour or so, helped me walked the hall, and showed me how to adjust the bed and use a yoga ball.  She supported my husband as much as she supported me, offering him advice and giving him breaks.  Even when I threw up, she got so excited, saying that meant it was almost time to push!  More than anything, I appreciated Rauna's touch; she held my hand or just leaned on my leg, it was so so comforting!  She was endless in giving me words of encouragement and affirming that I was doing a great job.  Yet when it came time to push, she was firm and direct, exactly what I needed.  My husband and I really wanted a natural birth, and couldn't have done it without Rauna, without a doubt.  She visited my home a week or so post partum, just to check in and answer questions.  She said that the hospital staff said I made it all look easy, and she made me feel like a rock star!  Thanks, Rauna!  You're amazing!!!

Having a Doula for the birth of my first baby girl was essential. I was considered high risk and had to delivery at OHSU, instead of in my hometown 5 hours away. I knew that anyone could be delivering my baby, so I needed a familiar face with me through the birthing process. After meeting Rauna, I knew she was the one. She has a calm, soothing demeanor. I knew she could help me in any way possible. I didn't know what to expect, and fear of the unknown was the scariest part. Rauna was always there to answer any of my questions, even on Christmas day when my water "broke" 2 weeks early!! With the help of hynobirthing and mediation, I was able to handle the intense contractions due to induction with pitocin with no epidural.  Rauna was encouraging and helpful with suggestions to get me through. I was exhausted. At 9cm dilated, I felt like I couldn't go any further, but Rauna got me through that last hour! I couldn't have done it without her and my husband of course! I highly recommend Rauna to have by your side during this amazing journey!

I cannot imagine a better birth experience without Rauna Otteson as my birth doula. I am a first time mom with no knowledge of what to expect when giving birth and my husband does not do well in hospital environments. Rauna first came to our house to explain how doulas assist in the birth process and also what to expect once I went into labor. She helped me with my birth plan and how to determine what I wanted from my birth experience. Of course, best laid plans often go awry. My water broke before early labor really kicked in, so I was in the hospital for two days before giving birth. Rauna came in once active labor kicked in. She was so incredibly attentive with me and a great calming presence for my husband, which also made him a better partner throughout the process. When I was not dilating properly she was kind but assertive with the hospital staff about asking for a plan. Once the pushing began she was the most amazing coach! There was some concern I might need an emergency c-section at the last minute, but with Rauna's coaching I was able to relax and allow my baby girl to get into position for a vaginal birth. Rauna gave me good counsel on getting our little girl to breast feed right away and she followed up a week after birth to ensure things were going well. So kind, warm and knowledgable. Again, she made our birth experience so beautiful in what could have been a very stressful environment. Thank you Rauna!!!!

Rauna was instrumental in making the birth of our first child a wonderful experience. When I first found out that we may end up delivering with a doctor on call and not necessarily with the doctor we had come to know and trust, I was severely disappointed and scared. Another couple in our child birthing class mentioned they'd hired a Doula and my husband and I agreed that would be worth looking into for ourselves. We are so fortunate to have found Rauna. She drove out of her way to meet us at our home prior to hiring to ensure we were the right fit. Rauna was so friendly, professional, caring and was able to address all of our questions and concerns - no question she'd see our birth plan through. Our child was approaching 41 weeks and it was determined that inducing labor via Foley bulb would be the best course of action. This was successful in jump starting labor and after a few hours of steady contractions, I called upon Rauna for support. She arrived as soon as possible and was so comforting, had great position suggestions to help me through the pains of the OP position of our son, and was a calming presence when there were issues with my epidural. My contractions were arriving in clusters lasting 3-5 minutes each with little to no down time and if I didn't have Rauna to comfort and assist me and my husband through that pain, I don't think we would have looked back on our experience with the same fondness. Having Rauna on one side and my husband on the other while pushing was the key to a successful delivery. My doctor was amazing and reacted quickly to the sudden arrival of my son. Honestly, it was a team effort and I couldn't be more grateful that Rauna was part of that team. She saw us through the transition home and still checks in regularly to ensure everything is going well postpartum. I know I can rely on her to answer questions, make visits and truly cares about how our family is doing. Thank you Rauna!

Rauna was awesome from start to finish. My wife and I received our first child in October of 2015. My wife wanted to have a natural childbirth so I wanted to hire a doula to assist us in advocating for that wish during the hospital birthing process. Rauna expressed that she had experience in medicated and natural births and would do wha she could to insure my wife had a safe, natural delivery. Rauna arrived at our house many hours before we went to the hospital and was extremely helpful in deciding when we should arrive at the hospital as well as comforting my wife during her contractions. To be honest, the hospital process is a bit of a blur and I don't want to confuse my facts, but Rauna was there every step of the way. She had already worked professionally with the head nurse in charge of the birth and they obviously had a great personal connection as a result of those previous interactions. As a result, our delivery room had a very relaxing yet confident atmosphere. My wife's contractions started getting weaker towards the end and the nurse and doctor wanted to set up a pitocin drip. Rauna acted in a professional manner during this challenging time, not overstepping her role as a doula while simultaneously conferring to my wife that she was capable of delivering the baby without pitocin. My wife did deliver without pitocin or an epidural. She suffered some tearing. Rauna was also very helpful throughout the healing process and helped us get used to family life, coming to our home to check on us and the baby in the weeks after the birth.

Rauna helped my husband and I with the birth of our first child. We are so thankful that we were able to have her participate in the birth. I realy can't imagine going through the process without a doula. Rauna was calm, supportive, aniticipated my needs as they came up, and was able to stay by my side when my husband needed to step out. Giving birth for the first time is an overwhelming process, and something as simple as holding your hand through a big contraction, or putting a cool washcloth on your forehead can make all the difference. Rauna was there to do all these things, and I highly recommend including her in your special day.

Rauna was a great fit for my wife and I.  We were looking for a doula to provide a calming, confident and supportive presence before and during labor.  Rauna exhibited these qualities from our first meeting.  She met with us in advance to talk through our expectations for labor and helped us to discover what was important for us in our birth experience.  We went into labor early and contacted Rauna in the middle of the night with no notice.  She joined us at the hospital in the middle of the night and stayed for the next 20+ hours.  Rauna provided great insight on each step of the labor process and helped provide ideas for different comfort positions to ease some of the pain.  We would not have been able to make it through the process without her support.  Rauna still contacts us to see how we are adjusting to parenthood.  We would recommend her to any expecting family.

My husband and I hired Rauna after interviewing several other doulas. We wanted someone to join us at our hospital birth who would help us have an unmedicated, natural childbirth. I had wanted to give birth at a birthing center, but couldn't due to financial limitations. Having Rauna join us at the hospital and prepare with us before hand, definitely helped us feel like our birthing experience was as comfortable as we had hoped. Rauna is calm and reassuring. She was supportive of our choices and informed about birthing options. Rauna knew just how to reassure my husband during our birthing time with ideas about how he could support me. They tag teamed giving me hip squeezes during the last stage of labor (it's hard work and I know my husband needed her support!). She hardly ever left my side during our birthing time and reminded my husband to eat, drink and take breaks when he needed to. After every contraction, she gave me a sip of water even though I didn't know I needed it. It reminded me I wasn't alone and was a welcome refreshment. It was such a relief to have her present with us the whole time since she knew so much about how to help me through. I ended up delivering our baby without any pain medication, thanks to the support of Rauna and husband, the amazing nursing staff at St. Vincent's hospital, and God's grace! Thank you Rauna for participating in our birthing experience. We would highly recommend Rauna to anyone looking for a supportive, informed, reassuring doula to journey with them though their birthing time.

From the moment I met Rauna I knew she was perfect for our family. She came over and I made dinner and we disccussed what I wanted and what I had experianced with my last two birth experiances. She took the time to build a birth plan that I was comfertable with and when we had a labor scare at 36 weeks she drove 45 min to get to me to make sure I was comfertable. She was so supportive and made my husband so confiedent in helping with the labor process. She helped keep me focused and comfertable. She gave me strength when I needed it and knew when to step back and let me be. Because of her I was able to have my natural nonmedicated child birth I craved. My little guy is 17 months now and I still send her updates and I would love to have her at any other births I may possibly have. I strongly recommend her and look forward to continue working with her if and when needed.

There are not enough words to describe how amazing Rauna has been!  I had multiple complications after delivery and Rauna has not only helped me through it all, but helped take care of our daughter.  She has been amazing in every aspect and we could not have come this far without her.  She has become a part of our family and we wish we could use her forever!  Rauna is very reliable, calm, supportive, and I love how she helps us without us having to ask.  For example, when i was taking a nap, I woke up to find the kitchen cleaned, dishes put away and laundry done and folded.  It was so amazing that she did all of this for us and it made me feel more relieved by not having to do it myself.  Rauna also helped us with various transitions with our daughter such as transitioning from the bassinet to the crib, lengthening time between feedings, and she has given us tons of helpful advice as our daughter has grown.  We really owe everything to her and if we decide to grow our family in the future, Rauna will be there every step of the way!
