My family and I had a wonderful birthing experience with LeAnn as our doula. My first son was born three years ago and my husband and I didn't realize at the time how "alone" we were at the hospital. Nurses/midwives came in and out but we were left by ourselves most of the time and had little knowledge of the many options and procedures that were presented to us. We decided with our second pregnancy that we wanted a doula to help us with the birth.
I met with LeAnn and instantly clicked and felt at ease. She took detailed notes about my first pregnancy and birth and asked me questions about my preferences and plan with my second. LeAnn checked in with me regularly via text and phone calls. She sent me several articles with the research on various topics relating to my pregnancy and birth plan. We met several times pre-birth to discuss labor options and plans. She helped us look at different scenarios for childcare options for our oldest child. LeAnn was always available, very knowledgeable and beyond supportive of everything relating to our pregnancy.
During labor, LeAnn joined us at the hospital. She was supportive and encouraging without being intrusive to the intimate moments between my husband and me. LeAnn helped us with natural pain management and took priceless photos for us. After my son was born, LeAnn stayed with us to talk me through the afterbirth process. She helped me to latch my baby and gave me helpful information about breastfeeding in the early days. LeAnn made sure my husband and I were settled in the family care unit before leaving.
LeAnn checked in daily for a week and came to visit me a couple of times after birth. She helped troubleshoot breastfeeding questions and also gave me great advice for baby wearing.
If you are considering hiring a doula, LeAnn in particular, DO IT! LeAnn's calm demeanor and wealth of knowledge made her a vital part of my positive birthing experience.
LeAnn is fantastic. She is empathetic, patient, resourceful and knowledgeable. I needed both compassion and guidance and she provided both. We used her services twice: during the day to discuss postpartum life and to learn a few practical things for baby, and overnight (she took care of our newborn) so that we could get some rest. Both experiences were wonderful. LeAnn offers more services than that, and I know she’s excellent in those as well. Highly recommend.
It's been just over a year since my husband and I worked with LeAnn. As we prepared for his arrival and eventually welcomed our son, having LeAnn as our doula was everything we had hoped it would be and so much more. Throughout the months and weeks leading up to our son's birth, LeAnn answered all of our questions and offered a variety of resources, information and reassurances to help put our minds at ease. And at the birth, LeAnn provided much needed physical and emotional comfort as well as advocacy when laying out and executing our birth plan. Her knowdlege, support and calming nature was exactly what we needed that day. Our son's birth was a VBAC and we drove nearly two hours to get to her and our provider for delivery. So, needless to say we were a bit stressed. Nonetheless, we would do it all over again with LeAnn. She is wonderful as a doula and as a person and we would absolutely recommend her services.
LeAnn has a very kind and calming presence. She was very professional and gave us lots of support and useful information during the pregnancy. She was very responsive to all our questions about the pregnancy, birthing process, and of being parents. We planned a home birth, and when my early labor did not progress, LeAnn suggested exercises to do to get the process going and came over to my house to patiently walk me through the exercises. When my water broke while doing the exercises, LeAnn went to the Birth Cottage with us to make sure all is well and the labor is progressing smoothly. She spent that whole Friday with us during what turned out to be a very very long labor that resulted in a transfer to the hospital and a Ceasearan Birth. Despite the complete lack of sleep, LeAnn was calm and compassionate during the whole process, from the home labor to the hospital, which kept us calm. The whole birthing journey would have been much more scary and traumatic if LeAnn wasn't there to keep us on track with our wishes for the birth, to hold our hands, and to give me a shoulder to cry on. LeAnn continues her support after the birth by checking in on us periodically and answering all kinds of parenthood questions that we have. I am grateful that LeAnn was our doula.
After our first son's birth (long, exhausting induction with unwanted interventions at 43 weeks) we decided to hire LeAnn as our doula when we found out we were expecting our second baby. From the very beginning LeAnn listened to our concerns with compassion and supported my desire for a home birth (and to go into labor on my own). She met with us several times before our birth and helped us draft birth plans for all scenarios, including another hospital transfer and a cesarean. I ended up going into labor at 42 + 1 and LeAnn was at our house in no time (in the middle of the night, naturally) to support us. My first baby was OP and she came over with a plan to help us get baby brother into an optimal position. She even brought a peanut ball, which I was so incredibly thankful for. She is such a calm, reassuring presence, and never did my husband feel like he was less of a support (this was an initial fear) because we had a doula. She quietly made suggestions for position changes and reminded me to eat and drink, something I needed but was too distracted to do. When my water broke (I had an insane amount of amniotic fluid) she positioned me in the safest position to avoid a potential cord prolapse and called our midwife immediately. After spending a few hours "still at 9.5cm" one of the things I still remember LeAnn looking at me and saying, with a smile, was "you are going to have this baby at home." It was just the encouragement I needed to hang tight through that last bit and push my eleven pound baby boy out. I can't thank her enough for being so calm, peaceful, knowledgeable, and reassuring. She helped me to shower, made sure we were breastfeeding succesfully, and even brought freshly baked bread when she visited later that week. As my husband has said on multiple occasions "I would pay her any amount to be at our next birth, I will pay her to come out of retirement if she isn't still attending births." We couldn't have done it without her!
Working with LeAnn was great! She has a calming nature about her and is filled with so much helpful information that allowed us to prepare for our birth and life afterwards. On the day my daughter was born LeAnn arrived just when we needed her and provide relief tactics to help me cope and had little relaxing tips and tricks to try (her foot massages are awesome!). I would (and do) recommend LeAnn to anyone who is pregnant or wanting to use a doula.
LeAnn is very passionate about what she does. She provided such insightful resources which my husband and I found very useful as first-time parents. Her presence during my childbirth process was invaluable. Almost two years later, I still remember how she was with me every step of the way and was a source of great comfort when I needed it the most. My husband and I are truly grateful to have had her as our doula, and we highly recommend her services!
I had never hired a doula before we contacted Leann Lett for post-partum doula care. When our little boy arrived, after about two weeks, most of our family help and support had ended, and I still needed nurture and help in the transition. Leann seemed to fit our family perfectly. I appreciated her initiative to jump in with both feet in getting to know our other children, tidy up our home, and care for my post-partum recovery and new baby. This was especially helpful since I wasn't feeling 100% and didn't always know exactly where I most needed her help during the hours she was present. When I hired Leann, one of my uncertainties was whether I wouldn't be able to get any actual rest because I was still one room away from my children. I knew I needed a few naps. But I felt that she truly cared about my little ones, and they picked up on that as well. I was able to take naps without my 2 and 4 year old ever knocking on my door or crying. They took to "Miss Leann" right away. And I loved her confidence in caring so gently and skillfully for my new babe. I can say that I truly felt comfortable and secure (no guilt feelings) leaving my little children and new baby with Leann. She made me feel empowered in my role and at the same time safe leaving all three of my children with her. All in all, hiring Leann as a post partum doula was a great experience and something I would certainly do again and recommend to others. Leann still checks in on my recovery and emotional state nine weeks post partum and is a helpful ongoing resource. She is confident and a great fit in this position.
After having a surprise c-section and traumatic birth with my daughter in 2012 I knew I wanted a doula for my next birth. I had a very easy pregnancy and wasn't worried about the VBAC until the last couple of weeks. Everything started to scare me (was he breech, who would watch my daughter...) and every time Leann was a constant reassurrance. On my due date I had a lack of fetal movement and went to get checked and from my first call to her she was there talking me through things. When I decided to have a c-section I felt informed and completely impowered. I was spastic and couldn't focus my thoughts on a c-section birth plan (I hadn't brought anything with me) and she helped keep my head clear, to remember the things I wanted to ask for and to keep asking for them. I'm one to let others take over, especially when I'm in pain or scared, and she gave me the tools to take control of my experience. My husband was overwhelmed I think, and scared for me becasue of the last experience and her being there was a huge relief. I chose Leann to come into the OR with me and my husband waited in recovery and I don't know how put into words how grateful I am that she was there. I never felt alone for a second and I have constantly felt like this birth was no different than my vaginal birth. She helped me get skin on skin and it was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. She helped me have a perfect cesarean birth. I never knew a surgery could be as natural and beautiful as my son's birth was. Leann stayed with me even when my son went to recovery with my husband and helped me during recovery getting him latched on. Ididn't know what a doula could do in a c-section situation but having her there changed everything and gave us the best start imaginable. I can't say thank you enough to her.
I can't say enough good things about LeAnn. I will forever be grateful that I found her. I had no idea what a doula was until about half way through my second pregnancy and hired LeAnn a little late in the game. I lived an hour and a half away from her, travelling to Tallahassee to see a VBAC friendly provider, and my husband was out of town for most of my third trimester. In spite of the circumstances, she was so accomodating and a wealth of information. She helped me thoroughly explore so many aspects of birth to ensure that I was as informed as possible. It was obvious that she sincerely cared about helping me have the birth experience I wanted. My husband didn't get a chance to meet her until the day I went into labor (which was actually the day we had planned on them meeting) but he later said that it never felt like he hadn't met her and was so glad she was there with us. She has such a calming and positive presence that helped both my husband and I stay focused and centered during labor. I don't know what we would have done without LeAnn on our team. She has been and continues to be such a blessing in our lives.
My husband and I are so thankful we had LeAnn by our side throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and beyond! LeAnn was a wealth of information, reassurance, and positivity that really boosted our confidence as first-time parents. She was really in tune with our desires and helped us explore our options to achieve the birth we wanted, while also calming our anxieties. LeAnn was a tremendous source of peace during labor and delivery; she provided wonderful pain-relieving support and helped my husband participate (and rest) during labor. I can't imagine our birth experience without LeAnn's calm, comforting presence! Even postpartum, she continues to be a great source of encouragement for us.
LeAnn was an amazing doula. I wasn't sure I needed a doula, since it was my third birth and I had had two previous uncomplicated labors. But her calm, nurturing personality is so encouraging that I thought it would be a good idea. I am so glad I did! even though it was my third birth, it was my longest and most difficult active labor. LeAnn was by my side the whole time.
Her gentle, unintrusive presence gave me the support I needed, and allowed me to focus inward. She seemed to know what I needed without me even asking; she brought me water, applied counter pressure, and suggested position changes without being pushy.
After my son was born, my husband said, "I don't know what we would have done without LeAnn!" She was so supportive and caring when we were both exhausted, and her calm energy really kept us both going. She has a gift for this, and I would recommend her to anyone.
LeAnn was absolutely phenomenal. Right from the beginning she was there providing tons and tons of really insightful articles and documents that answered so many questions for me. LeAnn has experienced two births herself, so she knew the exact suggestions to make that we're perfectly aligned with the birth experience I wanted. I was very comfortable with LeAnn; I never once felt any judgement about my choices, just encouragement and acceptance. She is very calm and has a peaceful energy around her that I needed during my recent birth. I cannot thank her enough for her time and excellent care during one of the most incredible moments of my life. She still blesses me with messages or calls to check in on me postpartum. She'll be a part of a memory I'll share with my family forever.
