Using Amanda as a doula was likely the best decision I have ever made in my life. My first birth in 2012 was nothing like I had hoped or planned and ended in an emergency c section for reasons I did not understand at the time. My recovery was riddled with spinal headaches from an epidural I was pushed to have by doctors that I did not want. It was my first child and no matter how much you prepare, there are things you just don't know to have answers for until you've gone through the labor and delivery experience at least once.

For our second child, I was determined for it to be different than the first. The only way anyone was sticking a needle anywhere near my spine was if it was a medical emergency. I hired Amanda as soon as I found out I was pregnant. She was there for me with every question and provided me with invaluable advice, guidance, and support throughout the whole pregnanacy, not just the labor and delivery process. On the day of my second son's birth, I started texting her very early in the morning when I realized my contractions were the real thing. She continued to check on me throughout the day to check the timing and make sure I was doing ok. When it was finally time, she dropped what she was doing and met us at the door to the hospital. I never had to ask her to do anything. She saw what I needed and was there to provide it. She was able to answer all the doctors questions for me as well as help my husband be as supportive as possible. My husband was able to be focused on me the entire time with her help. The nurse kept asking why I didn't want the epidural and never once did I have to respond. All of the medical staff spoke directly to her and she had all the answers so I could focus on breathing and remaining unmedicated. After only 4 hours and 4-5 pushes, everything had happened on its own: from the first contraction to my water breaking to him coming out when I was ready to push. 8lbs 11 oz Vbac all because of her.

Amanda was an amazing doula.  Even though we were a little late to the game with deciding to hire a doula, she was able to provide a lot of prenatal support and education.  When we discovered our baby was breech, she gave us lots of suggestions to turn the baby, helped us strategize our communication with the doctor and hospital, and ultimately supported us in our planned c-section.  The birth and first few hours of our baby's life went so smoothly and a lot of that had to do with the guidance we received from Amanda.  I would highly recommend her to anyone!

So Friday was the birth experience of my dreams. I got news Thursday that I was going to have to be induced. I was freaking out and really upset. I had planned and prepared and STILL things weren't going my way. I still wanted to give it a try with no Epi despite the crazy pitocin contractions. Without my doula, I could not have achieved my dream birth. The nurses and doctors were amazing, but their job was to make sure mama and baby were healthy- not to ensure this amazing experience. She gave me ideas, education, and support the entire time. She helped me make the decision to only up the pit to 20 and break my water. Before this birth, I had no idea the significance that kind of decision would make. Expecting mamas please hire a doula. A doula who is certified and whole heartedly supports your dream birth. My two birth experiences were night and day. I am genuinely forever grateful for my doula. Thank you so much for EVERYTHING. It's way too much to type here, and there just aren't words to express my gratitude. I'll never forget it.

Amanda was absolutely wonderful to work with. She has a personality that is both positive and calming, both of which are extremely valuable to a woman in labor!

After arriving at the hospital, we walked the halls together, used the doula ball and did squats to help labor progress and only 6 hours later, we welcomed our sweet baby boy into the world!

I truly thought before going into labor that I would request an epidural, but with both her and my husband's support, I was able to have a natural childbirth.

She is an amazing and truly valuable asset during labor! I highly recommend having her assist any mom and dad  that even slightly thinks they would like to experience a natural childbirth.

I gave birth to my first baby on October 4, 2015. Whenever I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted a natural birth. Knowing that it wouldn't be easy, my husband and I decided to hire Amanda as our doula. She was such a great resource for any questions I had during my pregnancy. She is very knowledgeable and knew every answer to all my questions. Whenever I went into labor I let Amanda know and she kept checking in on me to see how I was progressing. As soon as I was ready for her to join us, she came right away. She walked with me, did amazing hip squeezes, was such a great support, and so much more! I labored for 30 hours with horrible back pain. My son weighed 8lbs 14oz and was 21in long. I know without a doubt I couldn't have made it without her. I would definitely use her again in the future!

I knew from early on in my pregnancy that I wanted to have a natural birth.  Initially, I had no plans to hire a doula.  I wanted to birth this baby with only my husband there.  I didn't want any help.  During my pregnancy, my husband was working out of town and for weeks at a time, so I knew if I was going to try to have a natural birth, I was going to be as prepared as possible.  I was going to attend all the birthing series classes and read all the books!   Unfortunately, life got in the way and because of work conflict and schedulings, I was not able to do that, but the desire to have a natural birth remained.

As the third trimester rolled around, I came across South MS Birth & Breastfeeding Connection on Facebook.  I saw where they did a "mini" birth and breastfeeding class on a weeknight.  I signed up for the class, and that's where I met Amanda and Monicah.  They packed that three-hour class full of information, and I was sold! lol I knew before I left that night I wanted Amanda there, and that I was going to try my hardest to stick to a natural birth.

The best decision I ever made was hiring Amanda as my doula.  During labor, you have to have a great support system because I don't think you can never prepare yourself for the pain involved in labor; and without Amanda, I don't know that I would have made it. She offered me and my husband so much support and walked us through every single step of labor.  There were so many times in that short amount of time that I really wanted to quit, but she kept encouraging me until the end that I could do it, and I did. :)

I highly recommend this lady! She is worth every single penny.

I have always found wonderful conversation with Amanda since I have known her, so I knew she would be exactly what I needed in terms of verbal support as a doula.  Spoken encouragement and direction is most important to me during the hardest part of labor.  I only had to voice a few words to her between contractions and she could relay my feelings to the nurse when I was focusing on laboring. My birth was fast and furious so we didn't get to much of the physical laboring support, but she was available to me through out my pregnancy. She was waiting for me in the hospital parking lot to hurry me through the sign in proceedures (because my baby was ready to arrive about then and she was the only one who was truly listening to my concerns about that), and followed up with me multiple times postpartum.  I loved her availability and how she made me feel like I was her only client through each stage of pregnancy, birth, and posrpartum. I will recommend her to my friends, and hope to use her again for any subsequent pregnancies.

As a labor and delivery nurse, I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't want in my birth experience. My husband and I met Amanda at her childbirth education class and immediately knew that she was the one that was going to help us deliver our baby. we decided we would have a completely natural birth with no induction and no augmentation of labor P, along with no pain medications. Well things don't always go as planned. The day that I turn 39 weeks my doctor told me that we had to have this baby delivered soon. I had struggled with high blood pressure my entire pregnancy, And today it was just too hard to continue our pregnancy. I went in that night to be induced, inserted Cervidil and my contractions started every two minutes. A few hours later they check my blood pressure it was 160/100. I was then started on magnesium. The next morning my Cervidil was removed and I was started on Pitocin. Amanda arrived to help us with the labor process. A few hours later my blood pressure was still through the roof and with every contraction I was having horrible chest pain and throat tightening. My doctor decided that it was time for a C-section the baby had to come out immediately. if Amanda had not been there and helped us discuss our options I would've been completely scared to death. I knew that this was the best thing for me and for my baby and out and my husband and I were educated to know our options. Amanda and my husband were able to attend my C-section and Amanda sat right next to me and talked me through everything that was happening. After the section Amanda I was able to stay and help the baby begin the breast-feeding process. It was so nice having her there to be able to evaluate our latch to make sure that everything was okay. We would highly recommend Amanda to anybody that is going to have a baby whether it's through a natural birth process what your planned cesarean section

Amanda is wonderful! She encouraged me and answered my questions throughout my pregnancy and helped me with my birth plan. When complications required an induction, she helped me consider all my options and discuss them with my OB. Amanda supported me throughout labor and delivery and empowered my husband to be more effective as a support person. I could not have achieved my goal of an unmedicated birth without her, but I recommend her to anyone preparing to have a baby, no matter what type of birth you want.

I had heard about Amanda from a previous client and after taking one of her classes decided she had to be our Doula!  She is a naturally friendly calm person and I instantly felt comfortable with her. She was always available to answer any question my husband or myself had. The day my water broke she was at the hospital incredibly quick and never left my side for the entire 29 hours I was in labor. She was able to help me through everything! She coached my husband on how to help me as well.  She walked the hall with me, paced the room with me, helped calm both of us down when things got too intense, and was incredibly friendly with my entire family.  Our birth definitely would not have been the experience I wanted without her. I can't recommend her enough!

I'm a labor and delivery nurse and have had the pleasure of working with Amanda several times. She is very knowledgeable about the birthing process, how the body works naturally, and alternative methods of pain management. Every time I walked in the room she was using a different technique to help the mother-to-be stay calm and focused. She even brought her essential oil diffuser,  which was my favorite part! I found myself just wanting to stay in the room to learn from her how to help patients remain calm and labor without the use of medications. Ultimately, it was watching these natural births with Amanda that made me decide to have a natural birth myself. I strongly recommend Amanda to anyone interested in a natural birth because, trust me, you are going to want somebody there to encourage you, remind you why you're doing it naturally, and keep you focused on that sweet baby!

I am sooo happy that I decided to hire a Doula for the birth of my first child. My husband and I were a little skeptical, at first of the Doula process and how/what the Doula would actually do. I will tell you Amanda was amazing from start to finish! She met is at the hospital in the middle of the night for our false alarm and answered every question I could have ever imagined! She went to appointments and prepared me for every situation that could come forth.. She was with us throughout all the laboring process and was awesome at it! She had so many encouraging words for me and ideas to help with labor. She also was great at pointing my husband in the right direction as to what he needed to do! Although our plan didn't go as planned Amanda's knowledge of the process was so helpful! I honestly don't think I would have gotten to the point of natural labor if it hadn't been for her and her knowledge and tricks. She was absolutely amazing at our birth and my husband said we wouldn't change a thing if we do it again.. I would highly recommend Amanda to anyone looking for a Doula she goes above and beyond what I considered to be her duties!! :)

Amanda Smith did a wonderful job helping us with our gentle csection.  She was 100% supportive of us in the delivery process, as well as pre and post delivery.  She did an excellent job providing me with a wealth of information prior to the section when we hoped to get labor started but was also a valuable person to have present when it didn't go the way we wanted.  With my prior section, we experienced more stress in the delivery room than I desired which made me very apprehensive going into this delivery.  With her present, we stayed focused on what our goals were and were able to communicate them very clearly to the doctor, nurses and anesthesiologist.  With her assistance and guidance, the entire team came on board to provide us with our desired experience.  I was also able to have someone supporting me immediately after birth while my husband was responsible for checking on the baby.  She kept me calm and helped me experience the peaceful, joyful birth for which I longed, despite the circumstances.  I would recommend her to anyone seeking a doula's assistance!

Amanda was well prepared to help us through my pregnancy, labor, delivery, and first breastfeeding experience. She was very supportive to both my husband and I. She was a great coach in helping my husband know how to help. Amanda was very professional with both us and the hospital staff. My husband and I would HIGHLY recommend her services.

I didn't think about hiring a doula until the end of my pregnancy. With my first child I was induced and ended up with a c-section and had no one to help me labour and get through the pain. When I got pregnant with my little girl, that was the first thing on my mind. I didn't want another section if I could help it and I wanted that person by my side when the time came to help me manage my pain. I have ITP and my platelets prevent me from the option of an epidural. Knowing I was going to try for a VBAC I wanted everything to happen on its own. I didn't want to be induced by any means unless it was absolutely necessary. So, I decided that hiring a doula would be a good idea. That's when I found Amanda Smith. We connected via Facebook first and then by phone. Just by the first phone call, I knew she would be a perfect match. Her birthday was even on my due date ??. She was on call from the beginning with me because I was 37wks. I kept her updated with my apts and finally at 40wks 1day I woke up having contractions. I got in touch with her and we headed to the hospital. When we got there my contractions had stopped and they were going to send me home but wanted to do an U/S first to check fluid levels. That's when we found out my baby basically had no fluid around her and had to strip my membranes. I was taken to L&D and that's when Amanda, along with the rest of my family were able to be with me. Amanda was great. She helped me so much throughout my labour (36hrs). She walked the halls with me, rubbed lotion on my feet, rubbed my back/shoulders, held hot packs on my back, helped me on the birthing ball, etc. She made sure I was doing everything I could to help my labour progress naturally. I honestly couldn't have done it without her! I ended up with an emergency section because the baby's HR kept dropping and wasn't coming up. She only left my side when the nurses made everyone leave the room. I would highly recommend Amanda! She is an amazing doula!

Having Amanda as part of our birth experience was such a blessing! She was extremely flexible and made it to the hospital super spur of the moment for us.. In the early hours of the morning.. All smiles and positive attitude! Amanda helped my husband and I understand different ways to get my labor progressing, and was able to read my body better than I could.  Amanda gave me the confidence I needed to go through with having a non-medicated birth experience.  I love how sweet natured and positive Ananda is, that's just what I needed when the going got tough!  My labor and delivery was an amazing experience that I would do over again in a heartbeat! I feel that Amanda played a big role in making my story so great! I would definitely recommend having Amanda as apart of anyone's birth experience!

Amanda has been a dear friend for years, so when she told me she was going to be a doula I had no doubt that she would be PERFECT!  I also knew for certain that i wanted her to be with me for the birth of my second child.  My husband and i could not be happier with that decision. I needed him there, and he most certainly felt included and important throughout the entire process.  She supported him as much as she did me!  Even the medical staff was excited that she was attending my birth, which was encouraging.  Her sweet and gentle spirit really helped to keep me calm, and she constantly reassured me that I could acheive the birth I wanted.  My husband and i both agreed that we don't know how we would have done it without her support.  She gave me encouraging words, helped with different ways to labor, held my hand, and rubbed my aching back for hours on end.  She gave me constant attention throughout my labor, and for that I will be forever grateful.  I cannot express how thankful I am for her. God has truly called her to be a doula, and she is so wonderful. Even since birth, she has been so helpful and supportive with breastfeeding and answering questions.  She was already a great friend, but now there is a special bond that no one else could understand.  Having Amanda as my doula was the very best decision we could have made.

Words cannot express how grateful my husband and I were to have Amanda there for the birth of our daughter. From the first time I talked to her on the phone, I knew she was the right doula for us. She has a sweet spirit and a beautiful heart. I was planning for a completely unmedicated birth, and to initially labor at home. Amanda met with us in advance, and even toured the hospital with me. At 38 weeks, I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and needed to be induced. I was terrified and so upset. Amanda kept me encouraged in the two days leading up to my admission to the hospital, and she was there the moment I was admitted. She truly took care of me and my husband to help bring our daughter into this world. She brought a calm into our hospital room with her presence. She was there to remind me of what I wanted and that I could do it when things got really tough. I felt as if I'd known her forever, and I have no doubt that God had a hand in putting us together! While my husband was my coach, having a woman there who had been through what I was going through helped me so much. She was very attentive to my needs, both physically and emotionally, for my entire 36 hours of labor. She was always there to hold my hand without me having to say a word, and she helped me through exercises to try and help labor progress. Both my husband and I have said we don't know what we would have done without her! I thank her for giving up her time to be with us. We agree that she has truly been called to this and anyone would be blessed to have her there for such a special time.

As a first time mother, I was somewhat nervous and apprehensive about the entire birthing experience.  We did a lot of research as a family and decided that the right choice for us would be to hire a doula.  We wanted to experience a natural birth and felt that having a doula would make us feel more comfortable.  Amanda was the perfect choice for us, having experienced both medicated and natural child births she brought forth a unique outlook that we were looking for.  Amanda is a very loving, naturaly calming presence to have in this situation.  She has gone above and beyond anything that we expected or required.  She stood by my side through 18 hours of labor and was invaluable support emotionally, physically, and spiritually.  She works great with the medical staff and is there to support you not pressure you in any decision that you and your family make.  We can not endorse Amanda enough, we couldn't imagine going through this without her.  She is a great doula and now we are proud to call her a friend!  Thank you Amanda!

Due to being on the other side of the country as Amanda, she was not at the birth of my son in December of 2014. However, when I had questions about natural unmedicated birthing, she had the answers to all of my questions. She was supportive and encouraging of whatever decision produced a happy, healthy baby and momma. Her love for helping other women through pregnancy and childbirth is truly her calling.

I would highly recommend useing Amanda as your Doula. She was a wonderful blessing to me during my home birth on March 3 2014. She and my midwife arrived around 6:30am and my midwife check me around 7. I was only dilated 1cm and 40%. This was my third baby and my other births were only 5 hours from first contraction to pushing and was hoping for the same with this one. I told Amanda I didn't want to prolong this and she was so supportive in helping keep up the motivation. She noticed when I would get tense and automaticlly step in to help me relax. I felt like I could tell her if I did or didn't like things she was doing to help. Never made me feel like I was doing anything wrong and she was always positive. So by 9am I was in the tub pushing and by 9:10 my baby girl was born. I really credit her for my laboring being so short and fast. She was so supportive in the weeks before, during and after. I know she will be a great asset to any birth plan and supporter for mommy.
