We worked with Ellen for the birth of our daughter in August (2017) and we are so grateful to have had her by our side for the experience -- and the months leading up to the birth. We are first-time parents and I'm not sure how we would have handled the twists and turns of labor and delivery had it not been for Ellen.

Leading up to the birth she helped make sure we were prepared, encouraged us to take a birthing class and answered all of our lingering questions. She stayed in touch in the weeks and days leading up to the birth to see how things were going, recommending comfort techniques and lending lots of encouragement. On the big day, she advised us over the phone at first and then came to our home once labor was underway, helping us decide when to head to the hospital, traveling with us and keeping all of us (the taxi driver included) calm along the way.

We knew we wanted a doula who would work well with hospital staff -- and what impressed us about Ellen upon first meeting is that she expressed empathy for how overworked most hospital staff are. As it turns out, the night our baby was born our hospital was extremely short-staffed so for almost the entire labor, Ellen was the only person in the room with us. She was absolutely amazing, kept me calm and focused, reassuring me and my partner every step of the way, and was an absolutely invaluable extra set of hands. She was calm and steady the entire time, no doubt owing to her several decades of experience. The fact that the birth went as smoothly as it did, I credit mainly to Ellen.

In the moments after the birth, she helped get us established with breastfeeding and in the days afterward when she visited us in our home she gave us really helpful advice about our daughter's eating and sleeping habits. If you are looking for a kind, steady, and seasoned expert to be your doula, you will be in wonderful hands with Ellen.

We cannot sing enough praises for our doula, Ellen! This summer Ellen guided us in birthing our first baby at the Brooklyn Birthing Center and we could not be more pleased! Both my husband and I do not know what we would have done without Ellen's steady spirit and support during labor and birth.

Ellen met with us at our home prior to the birth several times and generously shared her time and expertise in helping us prepare for our big day. She prioritzed our goals and celebrated the choices we were making for a natural birth. As we drew closer to the due date, Ellen continually checked in and we could feel her energy supporting us in this final stretch. Her commitment to our birth plan became instrumental in helping us go into labor, as our baby was "overdue" and almost risked out of the birthing center to a hospital. Her knowledge about natural induction allowed for us to hold to our birth plan and enjoy a natural birth at the birthing center.

Once the surges began, Ellen joined us at our home and her labor techniques helped us progress rapidly. She coached both of us in the car as we made the trip from home to birthing center--keeping my husband calm in the driver's seat and myself focused on moving through the surges.

After arriving at the birthing center, Ellen guided me through a variety of labor positions that accelerated our progress and lead us to deliver only three hours after arrival. She intuitively adjusted me to move the baby down and lead me through visualizations to surf each wave of labor. We felt supported and held every step of the way. After the birth, Ellen stayed with us to counsel on breastfeeding and then continued to follow up with us the weeks after birth. Her post-partum visit gave us confidence and further knowledge on early infant care and pediatric approaches.

In short, we would 100% hire Ellen again and could not be happier with how the birth unfolded with her help.

We had Ellen as our doula for the birth of our first child in January 2014. She came highly recommended from a friend who had her child in a hospital, and coincidentally another friend had her for a home birth and gave rave reviews, so it was a no-brainer.

This was our first pregnancy and home birth, and we are so happy to have had Ellen to get through the experience. She is very flexible and accommodating with her time before, during, and after the birth. As she guided us through the planning of the birth, she made sure we were well informed of all the options and choices. As the birth drew near, it was extremely comforting to have her support for every little question we had. During the birth, her presence was priceless as she supported us with knowledge, encouragement, amazing massage, and helping us with any little thing that was needed. Above all, her great disposition and sense of humor kept us afloat through the worst parts of the labor. Ellen was also a life saver immediately after the birth, being available by phone for questions regarding breastfeeding and general knowledge of newborns, and even stopped by for breastfeeding help in the first few days when we were going insane from exhaustion and stress as new parents.

We could not have asked for a better doula and plan on recommending Ellen to all my friends and family!
