My husband and I welcomed our first baby earlier this year. As a first time parents, the amount of decisions that needed to be made around labor and delivery and the emotions surrounding it all was overwhelming. After talking to plenty of other moms about their experiences, we decided together that a labor and delivery doula may be the best decision for us. We met with a few doulas, all of which seemed qualified; however, the moment we met Darla we knew she was going to be the perfect fit for us. She made us feel comfortable, empowered and confident in our decisions, and she was by far the most experienced.
I can say with great confidence that Darla was absolutely meant to be a doula. Her gentle, sweet soul radiates, she is extremely knowledgable and experienced, and she integrated so well into our labor and delivery care team at the hospital. My husband and I still have such positive, powerful memories of the labor and delivery of my sweet boy six months post-partum.
After birth, Darla visited us a few times and was so sweet to even make us a book of photographs she had taken during labor and delivery. She is extremely responsive - as a first time mom, I text her often and she always responded quickly and eagerly with great information.
We would be honored to work with her again should we be blessed with another baby!
I have known Darla for many years, and when I found out I was pregnant there was only one doula I wanted. I didn't think she would be on board considering I live in San Diego (approximately 4 hours away from her). She accepted my invitation wholeheartedly and provided guidance on every occassion I needed, whether a hormone-driven therapy phone call, an infomative email, or setting me up with a supportive network in San Diego. I cannot tell you what a blessing she has been for me and my family throughout pregnancy and birth! On the date I was going to have an aversion attempt for my breeched daughter, she offered to provide support and GLADLY drove to San Diego without us even thinking we would need support. Unknown to us, we ended up needing to have an emergency C-Section that same day! Thank goodness she was there!
She never left my side in the hospital room, in the operating room, or post delivery. My husband and I agreed that he would tend to our daughter and never leave her side, as I had my other partner, Darla, with me by mine. She even brought along her camera, "just in case" and captured still shots and video of the birth, footage of which remain a treasure of ours that we continiously watch and go through.
I truly don't know what I would have done without Darla. She is incredibly selfless, never made it seem like she was "working" because she LOVES what she does. She even stayed with us for the weekend to help us get settled! She truly is our greatest blessing and we look forward to more pregnancies with her by our side. Ii am always at ease knowing that she is always there when we may need. She is the best at what she does because she does it from her heart and soul. There aren't enough praises I can state regarding the invaluable support and guidance we received having her as our Doula. Thank you Darla!
Darla Burns was our doula for the birth of our first two children. If it weren't for Darla I doubt that I would have been able to get through the firsr delivery naturally, and this was very important to me. Our secomd child came so quickly that I would have delivered him at home if Darla hadn't been there to hurry us out the door! Darla helped communicate what was going on during my laboring at home, the laboring at the hospital and the delivery. Her documentation of all the details of the birth were Amazing and I'm so grateful to have this record to share with my kids. I would refer Darla wholeheartedly again and again!
Darla came highly recommended to me by a family friend and hiring her was honestly one of the best decisions I ever made. I cannot begin to express how instrumental Darla was for me during the birth of my daughter. She guided me in figuring out the birth plan I wanted, calmed my fears and anxieties each step of the way (especially during the 3rd trimester!), answered my questions in a timely manner and was 100% committed to ensuring I was always being heard and understood. Darla was the key player during my birth and stayed with me every step of the way. She was professional yet acted like one of my dearest friends. She is also fabulous with postpartum support. Hiring Darla will be the best decision you will make!! I can't recommend her enough!
Darla was my birth doula in 2009 when I had my twins. I was a high risk pregnancy and delivery because of other medical issues and she was a total GOD SEND!! Darla is a true expert; soothing, supportive, encouraging and loving. She was an unbelievably valuable addition to our birthing experience. In the hours that followed the birth (the wee morning hours) Darla was wide awake and right by my side teaching how to nurse multiples. She also made sure that I got some rest and that my husband was getting his rest too! I wouldn't even consider another birth without her and refer her! She is a gem and a necessary part of the birthing experience!
I knew I wanted an advocate to help me with my all-natural non-medicated births. Darla was there for me for not one, but BOTH of my births. With my first birth she helped me stay at home and labor as long as possible before going to the hospital. Her presence and calm demeanor put me and my family at ease. I was confident all was well because she was at my side. My second birth was not text book but slow to labor then fast and furious. She advocated for me with the hospital staff ensuring I also had my wishes on a non-medicated birth. I wouldn't give birth without her! No words can express our gratitude for her gentle support and expertise!
Darla was absolutely amazing! She was not the original doula that we had planned on using, so I was slightly nervous to use her since we had never met. However, she was wonderful and helped me through the process of welcoming my daughter into the world. She was great at keeping my husband and me calm and offering suggestions/positions to help speed the labor process along. She was super cheerful and her presence in the room made a huge difference. I can't thank her enough for being there for us!!!
Darla was absolutely amazing! She was so wonderful and caring. She was a terrific liaison between my husband and our medical staff. She assisted in both our sons premature deliveries and was a godsend to have her presence. We would highly recommend her over and over again!!
