Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

Many years of working to organize our birth community and support women, families and doulas. I traveled to Uganda, Africa in 2013 to volunteer at a Birth Center and was re - amazed at the strength of women and the ability of birth to unfold in a non interventive manner.

It's difficult to choose a starting point in regards to how incredible Stacey is. From our first consultation phone call I knew I wanted to hire her as my doula for the birth of my second child. She has never rushed me, and has always heard me out. She explains thoroughly but respects whatever decision you end up making. I can say that unequivocally I feel that Stacey was the only one who truly believed in me 100% as I was trying for a VBAC. She always believed in me in the most genuine way. She not only guided me through pregnancy and through labor but also postpartum. She is a powerhouse during labor and knew exactly when to be hands-on and when to step back. She made me feel safe. She made me feel capable. She helped me to believe in myself when I was full of doubts. She comforted me. She was truly committed to bringing my baby into the world. I believe without a shred of doubt that I got to where I did with this labor because of her.

She also had really great words of wisdom for navigating family issues and the transition from one child to two. She also had insight for aiding my toddler in the transition to a new baby in the house and she communicated with my husband in a way that I felt resonated with him and therefore he was more receptive to certain things when she explained them. She checked in with me postpartum after other people stopped checking in and she really listened to me during the emotional turmoil of postpartum. She even helped me process previous trauma from earlier in my life. Stacey really cares about people as unique individuals and I will always treasure her and what she did for me. I'm so thankful for her.

For anyone currently pregnant, you cannot do better than Birthing Roots Midwifery. Stacey is not just an incredible resource with two and a half decades of experience, she is also incredibly attentive and caring. You are heard and validated when in Stacey's care. Stacey delivered my second child, and though the labor was a long, hard ordeal, I was still so full of appreciation and contentment knowing that my wishes were being respected and that I would receive the best care with attention to both my health and safety and that of my child. This is the way childbirth and pre - and post-natal care should be. This is the gold standard!

Stacey was present for three of my four births, and brought compassion and understanding to all of those experiences. She helped me through the difficult emotions of an unexpected pregnancy, and boosted my confidence. Her birth classes and the insight she provides in visits helped me better understand the birth process, and make educated decisions about our care. I also enjoyed that she took care of the office paperwork, so there was no sitting in a waiting room; the whole appointment was one on one care. And since I had older children with me on subsequent pregnancies, and she was so good with being patient with them and letting them be involved in the process. I remember my older daughter being excited to help measure my belly and hear baby's heartbeat. The whole family loves Stacey, and always felt comfortable with her.
