I knew Jessie would be the perfect Doula for us from our first FaceTime interview! Her energy was effervescent even across a phone screen - exactly what I was looking for to accompany my husband and myself on our birthing journey. She is kind, caring and incredibly knowledgable. She also constantly reminds you that the pregnancy, labor and postpartum journey are YOURS! She empowers you to remember that it is your body and your birth - something you may not always feel when dealing with your other traditional care providers. If you are looking for a Doula service in the OC/LA area - do not hesitate to contact Jessie!
I can't begin to explain how wonderful Jessie was as a doula!
We interviewed 10 doulas before finding Jessie and immediately knew that she was the one. I could tell from the first conversation that she was talented and knowledgeable, but I also appreciated how much she respected my desired birth experience.
Our son was almost two weeks late and it was very helpful to have Jessie just a text away for questions or concerns and to give me the confidence to stand up against a proposed induction.
We had the most beautiful unmedicated birth experience and I know in my heart that it wouldn't have gone that way had we not had Jessie on our team.
Don't hesitate! Jessie is the doula for you and hiring her is the best gift you can give yourself as a new parent!
There really are no words to adequately describe what Jessie brought to our birth experience! She is the kindest and most supportive person and honestly just a gem of a human being. She is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to pregnancy, labor and postpartum and it was (and still is!) incredibly comforting having her in our corner, reassuring us that we are doing a great job! She labored at home with me for a few hours before going to the hospital and was proactive in helping me get baby get into the best position. And when my labor was longer and harder for me than I expected, she was there every step of the way, being such an encouragement for myself and my husband. Our baby boy had problems breathing after birth and as traumatic and scary as that experience was, it would have been SO much worse without Jessie by my side. She brought such a calming presence to the situation and helped me process the entire experience at our postpartum visit, which was so needed and so life-giving. Jessie is an amazing doula and has become an even better friend, someone everyone needs on their team during the most intimate, beautiful and life changing moment of their lives!
Met with Jessie 12/2017 when I was 18 weeks and she was so friendly and informative that I hired her immediately without interviewing anyone else. She stayed in contact with me throughout my pregnancy to see how I was doing, due to my complications from hyperemesis gravidarum. The morning I went into labor she responded to me quickly despite my water breaking at 530am. She checked in periodically and told my husband to let her know when she should head over. By the time she arrived I had been in labor for 6 hours and was not coping well, but she was able to calm me down and help me through the contractions for another 4 hours before heading to the hospital. When my doctor wanted to start pitocin, she was able to help us weigh our options and I declined the pitocin because labor was progressing. After 16 hours of labor, I was disappointed in myself for deciding to get the epidural but she was able to provide me the emotional support I needed and reassure me that I was doing my best. She stood by me during the pushing phase of labor and provided encouragement. After my daughter was born, Jessie helped me breastfeed her for the first time. She checked in multiple times over the next few days and provided words of encouragement and advice to help me get through the emotional roller coaster I was experiencing. The placenta pills and salve she made have helped tremendously. Despite it being close to 2 months since my daughter was born, Jessie still checks in and answers any questions I have.
For anyone considering having a doula, I highly recommend it and you can’t go wrong with going with Jessie. My husband was with me from the beginning of labor and he was my rock, but we couldn’t have done it without Jessie. She provided different comfort measures and helped keep me moving to keep labor progressing. She also provided information so we could make the best decisions possible before and during labor. I will be using her again!
Jessie is quite simply amazing!!! She spends so much time educating, addressing concerns and answering questions to make sure you/your partner are as ready as possible for birth. From the home visits to the countless text messages, Jessie supported us throughout my entire pregnancy.
Jessie brings a very calming energy with her the day of the birth, which is exactly what we were needing. She spent the entire day with us at Hoag and was instrumental throughout the day, especially around the 20th hour of labor. She was a rock in our delivery room; she was nurturing and loving but also a neutral third party that was able to be a voice of reason when emotions were running high. I am so thankful for Jessie, I do not know what we would have done without her and we will definitely be using her again in the future.
Jessie also did my placenta encapsulation and post party doula support, needless today both services were nothing short of perfection.
I began writing a testimonial for Jessica a couple of weeks ago but could not get all of my happy feelings down to a nice concise review. On May 31, 2014 at 2:00am, my water broke and I immediately text/called her to determine what I should do... since I planned to birth at a hospital but also planned to go med free, I was a little worried that going there would mean meds pretty early on. She counseled me in the weeee hours of the morning on what my options were and this was so very helpful. My partner and I ultimately decided to wait it out and let labor run its course. Once we were ready, and this didn't take long... we made our way to the hospital and Jessica met us there right away. Some of my favorite things about the experience from the get go all the way to the time I pushed baby out were the essential oils (which masked the sterile hospital smells and made me feel at home) and the heating pads that she brought. She was very prepared and waited on me hand and foot like I was a birthing queen! I commented on the experience at some point saying that I felt like I was at a spa! Don't get me wrong, those contractions are nothing to play with but Jessica made me feel comfortable and she, my partner, and my best friend all worked together to make me feel so special and capable of such a feat. It was the most beautiful day of my life and I'm so glad that she was there to help me feel that way. The next day, the doctor that delivered our baby (note: not the doctor I had painstakingly chose - he was out) came in to our room to check on us and gave a very lengthy review of Jessica herself. She was blown away by how easy Jessica was to work with and just raved about her. A busy OBGYN took the time to speak so highly of her, saying that she worked so well with all of the staff, and also saying that she has had a lot of experience with other doulas. She loves what she does and it shines through!
Jessica has been a Godsend since the day I met her. Being a young, single, first time mom, I knew I needed the support of someone to help me go through labor. Wanting to do everything as natural as possible, I did research online and came across Jessica. We talked and hit it off right away. She was very sweet, passoniate and easy going. I knew that she was the perfect doula for me. From our first pre-natal appointment she was a great support system. If I had any concerns or doubts she would immediatey put my mind at ease. Although she is very knowlegable, she never pushed her beliefs or opinions, she is open-minded and was always on board with my decisions. She is very resourceful and provided me with information I needed when it came to researching about labor and delivery. She is flexible when it came to appointments and the day I was in labor. When I needed her she was there, she is very reliable! When the day came and I was in labor she was absoluetly amazing. Supported me an stuck to everything I wanted. She helped me stay strong and was an amazing coach. She was very mellow, peaceful and maternal on top of being professional. After 4 1/2 hours of active labor I had my son completely natural and med free. It is very empowering as a woman to be able to say that. Labor was the hardest most beautiful thing I've ever had to go through and couldnt have done is without Jessica. She gave me the courage I needed. She will always have a special place in my heart. Needless to say I cant recommend her enough!
Jessica played a huge part in my birth experience. I would highy recommend her to anyone. This was my first pregnancy so I didn't really know what to expect from myself. I was glad to have someone who has personal and professional experience with the "joys" of labor.
When I finally went into active labor Jessica was at my house helping me to breath through each contraction and she stayed with me all the way to the birthing center and after the birth of my son. My husband felt so relived to have Jessica there through this experince! We don't know how we would have gotten through it with out her.
Jessie was absolutely fantastic! We originally had a different doula who was also awesome, but she had a trip planned when our little one decided to arrive (almost two weeks late!). Jessie was her back up and hopped into our birth plan seamlessly. The first time I met her face to face was at the birthing center as we didn't have time to labor at home. She introduced herself to me and my husband and we all got to work. Jessie was attentive, knowledgeable and very calming. I needed a certain type of support at first but changed my needs as my labor progressed. Jessie didn't skip a beat and kept up with my demands, no problem. Throughout the ten and a half hour labor she was there with my sips of water and honey sticks, ready to toss a blanket over me when I shivered and pull it right off again when I started burning up, and to make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after I delivered.
She wasn't only amazing in the delivery room, she followed up with us to make sure our little one was ok and we were doing great as well. She and the original doula visited us at home the week after we gave birth as well, answering our questions and double-checking that we were feeling the best we could as new parents. I even texted her a question on breastfeeding because I trust her knowledge and expertise. She wrote back quickly and we've since implemented her suggestions with great success! I highly recommend Jessie as a doula, it's clear she loves what she does and it suits her as a profession and career.
We chose Jessie to be our doula after interviewing several options. She was by far the most excited about being a doula, and was the most understand about our unique situation. (We were planning a "silent birth".) Jessie made both my husband and I feel very comfortable with our choices and was completely supportive in every aspect.
I went into labor around 4am, called her about 7am, and she was at our house within about an hour. She came well-prepared with all her tips and tricks, heating pads, ice packs, etc. But most of all, she came with her confidence and experience. She seemed to know exactly what would help each time I was having a rough contraction, and she knew exactly when to contact the midwife, when to move around, when to take a drink, when to use the restroom, etc. It's like she was the fairy god-mother who just knew how to make everything better!
The most memorable moment with Jessie was when I was having a contraction, and happened to be on the toilet at the time. She came over next to me and held my head in her hands and let me lean onto her. She held my head with just the right about of pressure that it felt GOOD! That is just one example of her caring touch.
All in all my labor lasted 12 hours (first baby) and it was practically flawless! Before we knew it was 10 cm dilated and ready to push! I know it would not have been so smooth if it weren't for her being there with us. If I have another baby, I will ABSOLUTELY be using Jessie as a doula again. And I'd recommend her to anyone I know.
My wife and I had our first baby, Brooke, on April 27th, 2014. Prior to the birth, we were both a little skeptical about needing to have a doula, as we were already working with a midwifery and knew that we would have a midwife and a midwife's assistant present at the birth. After hearing more and more about others' birth stories and how great it was to have a doula, my wife looked into it and, through a recommendation, very fortunately found Jessie; we interviewed other doulas, but my wife loved Jessie right away and knew that she was the right one. Let me just say, having Jessie be our doula was one of the best decisions we made in the entirety of our pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and birth. Jessie was incredible; she was attentive, engaged in all of our (and especially my wife's) events leading up to the birth, and, on the evening/night/morning of our daughter's birth, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Jessie brought a level of involvement, knowledge, care, and simply a level of comfort to the situation that even our amazing midwife did not bring. The midwife was there to conduct the facts and objectivity of the birth; Jessie was there to be everything and anything my wife and I needed during the most amazing, yet new and at times frightening, period of our lives. Jessie soothed my wife, provided her with massage and back pressure that was invaluable, gave us great advice through her knowledge and experience, and literally felt like a member of the family. After being there for us and with us through 16.5 hours of hard, all-natural and medication-free labor, Jessie is a member of our family. We truly couldn't have asked for anything more, and I know whom I will be calling and asking to be our doula when Brooke gets a brother or sister!
