All in all, I couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out. While I doubted myself at times in the labor, Julie and my husband were wonderful support and helped me to have the birth I really wanted. I delivered a healthy, beautiful baby girl, and am over the moon in love with her. She is truly perfect in every way, and a great addition to our family. Julie's calm manner and her compassion helped me to do the impossible. She helped me to have an unmedicated VBAC. Julie believed in me when I didn't believe in myself, and kept me focused. Without her, I don't know if I would have made it unmedicated, but she made sure that I did. I will be forever thankful to Julie for sharing this special time with us.
Advocat, educator, friend, support system; a doula has so many roles they play. Julie quickly became a person in our lives who fulfilled all the above and more. We met with Julie initially to discuss her role during the birthing process. She helped explain each step with ease that immediately we felt connected to her in a way that made my husband and I feel confident in our birth plan. We learned from Julie in birthing class along side others that had chosen this form of delivery. Julie did a great job of checking in on me throughout my pregnancy. I had her to bounce questions off of to even explaining further why a test or procedure needed to be done or really didn’t need to be done. In the end she gave my husband the confidence he needed to be my strong hold before heading to the hospital. While in labor we experienced a calming atmosphere that lead to a beautiful birth experience for myself and husband. We’ve been blessed to share this twice with Julie. Both times we can honestly say we couldn’t have asked for a better birth! Julie we thank you for helping us achieve the “perfect” birth(s)!
Julie Fox is a phenominal doula. She kept me grounded and empowered through a long birth and her presense gave me the strength and clarity that I needed in order to have the birth experience that I wanted. Julie brings the perfect mix of warmth, confidence, and strength to her work and she cares about her clients (and their families) with her whole heart. When Julie was by my side during my birth, she advocated for me and I felt like I was her number one priortiy. She made me feel safe and allowed me to focus completely on my needs and my baby's needs. She is a wonderful guide and support!
I can't imagine anyone being a better doula than Julie. During our 42 hour(!) birth she was constantly available to help us make decisions through an emotional and challenging situation. She was supportive of our hopes about what would happen during our birth while also helping us change plans gracefully when events unfolded differently. She understood our preferences deeply and because of that she was able to support us in ways that even our family couldn't. Her compassion and kindness was exactly what we needed through all of this, and she went way above and beyond what we expected.
Looking back on my pregnancy and birth, I’m SO glad I had Julie for my doula and that my husband and I took her childbirth classes. Her classes were a good balance between the anatomy of labor & delivery, pain coping techniques, and how to work through the fears and high emotions that come along with it. She has attended A LOT of births in this area, so she knows the doctors, nurses, and hospital practices well. She is very well respected by the local medical community. Every time I told a nurse or doctor who my doula was, they’d say “Oh, we LOVE Julie. She’s the best doula in the area.”
Julie was a great liaison between my husband and I and the medical staff. Whenever I felt burnt out, she always had another position or something else to try. Julie has a very calming demeanor; she’ll tell you the facts in a straightforward but loving and gracious way, reassuring you that you’re doing a great job and reminding you that you’ll meet your baby soon. I also really appreciated that she cared for my husband and me together. Her presence was definitely a help to him too – instead of feeling pressure to remember laboring positions and pain coping techniques, he could leave that to her and focus on caring for me emotionally and physically, which is what I really needed.
Overall, Julie was supportive, compassionate, reassuring, and extremely helpful throughout my labor and delivery. From texts and phone calls when my water broke at home, to spraying hot water on my back in the shower for HOURS, to her and my husband holding my legs up while I pushed that baby out, I can’t imagine what the birth would have been without her!!
I am so thankful that Julie was my doula and present for the birth of my first child. She provided me the support I needed to have a natural birth. Her great suggestions helped me when I was struggling with pain. The tools she brought, such as a heat source for my lower back helped me manage my pain as well. She listened intently to me during our prenatal session so she could support me in the way that I preferred during the labor. She was right there with a sip of water or warm words of encouragement whenever I needed it. I am so grateful to her for her undivided attention and compassion during one of the most important moments of my life.
My birthing experience with Julie was amazing! With my first child, I had the support of a doula so I knew how helpful doulas could be throughout the birthing process. When I became pregnant with my second child, my husband and I both agreed that without a doubt, we would want doula support again. Julie was always available and quick to respond to my questions and fears prior to labor. She helped calm my anxiety in the couple of weeks leading up to the due date. When I began having contractions, Julie was in frequent contact to stay up to date on how things were progressing and how far apart the contractions were. My labor progressed very quickly once we arrived at the hospital, and Julie was there helping me to cope with the pain. She was so supportive of both my husband and me through the process. Having Julie there definitely helped keep my husband calm and also involved in the process, because she could coach him on how best to help me cope with the pain and stay focused on deliverying a healthy baby, naturally. The value of Julie's services far outweighs the cost, in my opinion and was a "must" for us, even the second time around because all births are different. I highly recommend Julie as a doula. Her knowledge and support is critical, and I can't imagine birthing without her by my side.
After birthing our first child with Julie's help, I would never want to give birth without a doula! We have only just recently moved to the area (just under two months before our baby was due) and we didn't know more than a few people. After doing some research and asking around, Julie's name came up repeatedly as a highly-recommended doula. Everyone was right! Julie was helpful before we even started our move across country, giving us advice on OBs in the area and how the health professionals were in general. Couldn't have been more helpful. Once we moved here, we took Julie's "birthing mindfully" class, where we met some other expectant couples and talked through the emotional and logistical side of birthing. It was a very helpful class - a great way to get us into the right mindframe.
After the class we were settled on hiring Julie as our doula. I love telling people that she's the perfect combination of practical and hippie. She wants everyone to have the natural birthing experience that they would hope for - and she's great at preparing you for everything that would entail - but she also helps you to be realistic about the possibilities of what can happen in medical situations. To help with this, for example, she suggests that you have birth preferences instead of a birth plan. This really helped me and my husband to be flexible and open - which I have no doubt helped us at the delivery.
I did have to be induced after having signs for early preeclampsia. Because these symptoms are serious, I had to have several other drugs to counteract the high blood pressure and possibility of seizure. These medications generally lead to people having pain intervention because the drugs drain you of energy and the ability to push. I am happy to say that with Julie's help with breathing and other pain management techniques, I did not have any pain interventions. I am SURE that I could not have done it without the help of my husband and Julie!
My experience giving birth was truly wonderful and Julie Fox played a huge role in this! Attending her childbirth classes helped my partner and me prepare mentally and physically for the upcoming birth. She helped me navigate my way through the challenging last few weeks of pregnancy and prepare for my natural hospital-based birth. During my actualy labor and delivery Julie was vital! She helped me manage the pain of contractions, supported me mentally, emotionally and physically through the entire process and helped me choose the best path for my delivery when issues arose. With her assistance I gave birth to a healthy baby boy and I have positive, warm feelings about the whole experience. Julie was an essential part of my birthing support team (which consisted of my partner, doctor and hospital nurse) and I would definitely recommend her to other women looking for support during the biggest event of their lives! All women should have doula support!
Julie was great! Listened to our needs (and fears!) and helped us through all of it. At the end of the actual birth of our daughter, my husband put our whole experience very simply, "That was the best decision you made. Thank you!" Of course, he was on board with hiring Julie (and a part of the process) from the beginning. But, I think he initially thought he was agreeing to hire her 'for me' (and the 'at home' birthing classes). Afterward, he truly realized that having her there was a true blessing. From my point of view...I know, without a doubt, that the ONLY reason I was able to have a natural birth I wanted (not even an IV!) was due to Julie. From the prep classes & the guidance in the months before to the pressure she kept on my hips (GAME CHANGER!) during the hard contractions, from the tactics she and my husband used (and decisions they made together) to her bringing him a burger on her way to the birth (she's a vegan!) when my timing prevented him from grabbing dinner before we made our trek to the hospital. I wouldn't have traded a thing! A year later, when we celebrated a 1st birthday, Julie was still (and will always will be) a MAJOR part of that day's memory, our story, and no amount of money could ever thank her enough!
Julie was awesome! I used her for the birth of my third baby and I don't think I could have done it naturally without her. I had used another doula previously but using Julie was a much better experience. She was knowledgeable and professional. She brought a calming presence to our birth and seemed to know how to help me before I even asked. She knew my midwife and the nurse attending my birth and worked very well with them. If the Lord chooses to bless us with another child, will we certainly want Julie to be our doula again. Additionally, I will recommend her to anyone who wants to have a natural birth and actually already have!
After reading the 'Birthin from Within' book, I was pleased to find a doula in our area who taught childbirthing classes using the same materials. My husband and I were expecting our first baby, and were not originally planning to hire a doula, but we did want to take some childbirthing classes. We felt comfortable with Julie from the very start, and her classes were invaluable instruction and practice in pain-coping techniques as well as a fantastic introduction to what we could expect in labor and of the emotional challenges we would likely face as new parents. By the time our classes were completed, we knew that we wanted to have Julie as part of our 'birthing team.' That would prove to be one of the best decisions we have ever made! My birthing experience naturally (pun intended) was not quite what I had been hoping for; my midwife strongly suggested I be induced with pitocin after finding I had been leaking amniotic fluid for over 24 hours. The time Julie spent with us practicing pain-coping techniques paid off as I labored pain-medication free for 11 hours; with four of those hours just in pushing! Julie was right beside me and my husband as we focused on each and every breath. She was encouraging when I needed her to be, and she was behind-the-scenes when I needed her to be. When baby finally arrived, she had to be taken to the warming table for monitoring rather than given to me immediately. Thoughtfully, Julie took our camera and snapped photo after photo of our sweet newborn baby girl and then brought me photos so I could see them. She then took the camera out to our family in the waiting room so that they would see her little face as soon as possible. Once baby was in my arms, Julie was there with reassuring advice for breastfeeding. I can't say enough about how having Julie as my doula contributed so much to my birthing experience. I know her caring support to our family was crucial to my daughter's safe and happy birth!
Julie is a wonderful, cheerful, encouraging and trustworthy person. She accompanied us all the way through pregnancy to birth and we always felt comfortable and secure with her. She always came up with several ideas about pain coping techniques for me to choose from. During labor she was an irreplacable support to me. Her presence also took pressure off my husband and made us both feel well taken care of.
After having a very difficult birth experience with my first daughter - including many epidural complications and a vacuum assisted birth - I decided that with my second, I would go the medication-free route.
With our first meeting, I immediately felt comfortable with Julie. She understood my concerns and made it clear that if I chose her as my doula, she would be there to help me have the birth experience I wanted, whatever that may be.
For our prenatal visit, Julie came to my home and gave me and my husband a bit of a prep-course for labor, which was very helpful.
During the actual labor and delivery, Julie was there as soon as I needed her. She communicated well with the doctors and nursing staff to make sure my needs were taken care of and that I was as comfortable as possible - able to be up and moving around, or on the birth ball often. She jumped right in massaging my feet at some points during contractions, and my hips at other times - and even set up a jacuzzi bath with lavendar. When I didn't think I could take the pain any longer, she got me through it. I listened and took her advice and I'm so glad I did - everything worked just as she said it should. When it took nearly 4 hours to go from 4-6cm and I was feeling defeated, she told me exactly what to do to progess much faster, which I definitely needed. I went from 6cm to having a baby in my arms in less than an hour. With her instruction during pushing, it only took 4 real pushes, and the baby was out with no tearing. She even told my husband what to do to help, and helped him get through it as well.
As soon as I had the baby in my arms she grabbed my camera and started taking priceless photos for us, which we otherwise would not have.
Everything went far better than expected and I was able to get through it without any drugs. My experience would not have been the same without Julie's guidance and support.
Julie Fox was recommended by two of my coworkers who had excellent experiences with her doula support services. We connected immediately with her as my husband knew her and her family through grade school. This attested to her character: Julie was very personable, knowledgeable and true to her word. We knew we could trust her to help us bring our child into the world in a natural way, God willing.
Throughout the weeks, we explored options for childbirth classes. I particularly was looking for a birthing class experience that wasn't just anatomy & physiology of birthing a baby, being a Registered Nurse. Instead, I wanted to learn more about tapping into the capabilities of my body and it's innate ability to give birth. Julie also offers chidlbirthing classes that are not "ordinary" and that use techniques from "Birthing From Within and Mindfulness-Based Childbirthing philosophies". We knew that it was the best choice especially since she was going to be our doula support! The classes consisted of three flexible meetings in an intimate setting with only two other couples that introduced new concepts and ways of thinking that my husband and I even used in our everyday life.
During pre and early labor, my husband and I were communicating with Julie through text or phone call about what I was experiencing and helped in validating what we had learned in class. Julie met us at the hospital at 2 a.m. on the day of delivery. She was attentive to my needs and preferences during labor and facilitated in the maintenance of a completely natural labor/birthing experience, leaving my husband to be my emotional support. This decrease in stress allowed us to enjoy our daughter's birthing process!
We will absolutely be using Julie for her doula services as we continue to grow our family! We can't thank you enough, Julie!!
Choosing a doula was a last minute decision for us, it was something that I wanted but my husband wasn't so sure about the idea of having a stranger in the birthroom. Our midwife highly recommended it so we finally made the decision that it was something we were going to do. After meeting Julie, me and my husband knew that she was the right doula for us. She has a very calming presence, which was very helpful during labor, and she is very easy to get along with.
I was fortunate enough to have the birth that I wanted. I know that having Julie there was a huge part. I labored at home for 10 hours and I think that knowing Julie was a phone call away if I needed anything was calming, it was also reassuring to know that she would be at the hospital with us.
Labor is not easy by any means, but I feel like the positions that she suggested really helped relieve the pain and she was able to apply pressure to my back when it hurt which was a tremendous help to me. Julie was able to tell my husband what to do to help me which was nice for both of us, I feel like it helped keep the stress level down in the room. Staying calm and relaxed is very important during labor and having Julie present during my labor made that possible. I highly recommend her to anyone I know who is looking for a doula.
It may have taken us a while to decide to use a doula but we are so glad that we did and neither of us regret it for a minute.
