Laura was amazing and very helpful during my long 36hr labor. She helped me reach my goals of a VBAC and even though everything didn't go as planned she helped us talk through options so my husband and I could make informed decisions. She is loving and compassionate and goes above and beyond. I got hospitalized for a fall during my pregnancy and we forgot our phone chargers and live 2hrs away from hospital, Laura brought some to us to borrow. She took notes during my labor which I am very thankful for. I had forgotten some details and enjoyed going back and reading over the notes. You won't regret hiring her!
Having Laura as part of my birth team was the best decision I made during pregnancy!! I cannot say enough amazing things about Laura. From answering all the awkward questions while pregnant, to providing real time info when my water broke and I didn't go into labor, through 24 hours of labor, and eventually my c-section - SHE WAS THE BEST! Hire her. Don't even think about it, just do it.
Laura has been there for all three of our births and we can’t imagine it any other way! She is so helpful, encouraging and supportive. Her breathing reminders and coaching helped me through each contraction, as well as freed my husband up to hold my hand and take on his own support role. Laura spoke my language, as far as she knew just what to say to help me through, and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. She also rubbed my back and brought along essential oils that were a lifesaver for nausea. We feel like having a doula has given us a perfect birth team and I appreciate how Laura has always advocated for and communicated our birth plan to hospital staff. I truly believe having her there made achieving those goals possible. I can’t say enough good things after three times of having Laura attend our births and highly recommend her services!
Laura was an amazing doula. I 100% believe that if it wasn't for her empowering us in our choices we would've ended up having a c-section. We had planned a natural birth, but when our birth plan went out the window Laura gave us the confidence to carry through. Labor was about 27 hours and Laura was there the entire time--holding my throw up bag, doing some rebozo to help the baby change positions, even doing my ponytail when my hair was not cooperating. Laura coached me through every contraction, it was like she knew exactly what to say and all I did was focus on her voice as she counted my breaths--this helped expecially when there was no break between two contractions. Then when it came time to push, Laura taught me how to push and coached me for more than two hours--she stayed by my side the entire time and was the most encouraging voice in the delivery room (the nurses werent very good at telling me how to push--and honestly I dont think they cared to be either). Her support also helped guide my husband on how to better support me. He was a bit nervous about how I would react to pain, but once he saw how Laura took charge and counted breaths, and suggested positions to get through contractions, he followed her lead and was able to support me confidently. After birth Laura was so supportive through text, I had a hard time and she encouraged me so much and gave me so many suggestions to deal with all the hormonal ups and downs, she also gave so much advice with regards to breastfeeding, diapers, anything baby care related. If we are in oklahoma for our second child we will no doubt hire her. She is just amazing!
Laura is absolutely amazing! This was my 3rd birth-1st natural. I decided at 32 weeks to switch doctors and hospitals & have a doula assisted birth. It was the best decision I could’ve made! Laura was actually our back up doula but she was so supportive & encouraging via phone & text during the early signs of labor. When active labor started & we headed to the hospital she was there & met us at the car when we arrived. She even wheeled me in so my husband could park (thankfully because we had no idea where to go!). She helped me check in, all whike calmly coaching my breathing & keeping me calm. She helped my husband find us. By the time we got checked in I was already 9.5 cm dilated. It set in at that moment that I was definitely going all natural & I got very nervous but she continued to keep me calm & focused on breathing. I typically experience nausea & vomiting during labor & delivery but as soon as I got nauseous she put some essential oil no a cloth under my nose & it immediately went away. They rushed us from triage to delivery but she continued to keep us both calm & relaxed. I barely remember the nurses or doctor rushing around because I just kept listening to her & breathing. I had really bad back labor but she provided counter pressure so started pushing & it made it so much easier! Labor was so fast (baby was born a little less than an hour after we arrived), it would’ve been a traumatic experience I’m sure if we hadn’t had Laura with us! She politely encouraged & reminded us to speak up & ask for what we wanted post delivery & was such an amazing support & encouraugment to my husband & I. Cannot day enough good things about her! I will definitely be using her again with future deliveries ????
Compassionate, patient, understanding, empathetic, bold; these are a few words I would use to describe Laura. She truly has a passion for what she does as a doula, and i could not have gone through my labor and delivery without her. She was the calm in the storm and the voice of reason when I thought I was about to lose my mind. She helped me in ways I couldn't have anticipated. Our family has been truly blessed by knowing her, and I'm thankful every day she was brought into our lives.
First, let me debunk the stereotype that all doulas are really crunchy hippies and so if that doesn’t sound like you, you probably wouldn’t benefit from one. Or the thoughts that your husband is the only support person you really need. Or that a doula might be nice, but just isn’t worth the extra expense. These are all thoughts I had initially, and I’m here to say I was wrong.
After books, classes and practice, we were unprepared when our first birth ended in c-section. After, I knew I wanted to try VBAC—and since research shows that having a doula leads to better birth outcomes—we decided to make the investment. After all, you pay your doctor and the hospital for their clinical care, why not pay a doula to provide the other care: knowledge, support, encouragement that is necessary for natural birth?
We did it! Natural birth, VBAC, laboring at home!!! But I don’t think we could have done it without Laura’s help! She was knowledgeable before labor at pointing us to resources to help us prepare, helped us stay positive when we had doubts or questions about our pregnancy/possible obstacles. Her support during labor/delivery was invaluable. She was calm and so I was calm. She was confident that what was happening to my body was normal and that I was doing well, so I believed her and was able to trust my body to do the work of labor! So much that I was surprised when it was time push! She didn’t replace my husband’s intimate role in helping me labor but guided the process so that we were able to stay focused. Even after the birth—she stayed and helped in ways that were just above and beyond the routine care from hospital staff, and continued to coach me to physical and emotional wellbeing in our first weeks back at home. I am a fairly modest person and I never felt anything less than the care of a close friend-- I would highly recommend her to anyone considering natural birth!
Laura was our doula for the birth of our second child. We knew from the birth of our first that having an extra support person was so helpful (my mom had been able to be with us the first time) and since our first had been posterior we wanted the support and expertise that a doula could bring in case this baby was posterior or if anything else came up. Laura was amazing. She was a wealth of information for proactive measures I could take to help prevent another posterior baby. She was so supportive and available throughout pregnancy, listening to me cry after a slow start to labor kept me up all night with contractions with no end in sight, and when labor finally picked up and she was with us she provided such a calm presence and constant encouragement when I didn't think I could do it anymore. I highly recommend her!
When I first got pregnant getting a doula never even occurred to me. Honestly, I hadn't even done my research about what kind of birth I would want. I started watching birth videos online and really got interested in the process of labor and birth. It was then that I realized I wanted to have a natural birth and I would need someone there to help me achieve that dream and my ultimate goal- a healthy, safe mama and baby. I asked my doctor if they were allowed in the room during delivery and he said of course and actually gave me a doulas number that he recommended. It was Laura! My husband at this point was supportive but really didn't understand what a doula was or if she was even necessary. He agreed to meet with her. So we gave her a call and met with her at Panera Bread to discuss the details. She was super friendly and the conversation felt natural. I decided that she was who I wanted to be my doula. My husband agreed but still felt we didn't need one. We met with her twice in our home before our sons arrival. She made me feel at ease. The morning I went into labor she remembered my wishes to labor at home for as long as possible and was reminding me of things we had discussed to do while I was laboring. She came over late that night after I had been laboring at home all day and was starting to feel discouraged. Immediately she helped me to feel comfortable and gave me that extra strength. We went to the hospital and she never left my side. Rubbed my aching thighs after contractions, essential oils for nausea, encouraging words, advice on new positions, a hand to hold through contractions, a shoulder to cry on, my advocate, my husbands go-to. She was incredible. I'm so glad we chose her. She took awesome pictures and videos of Lukes birth, helped with breastfeeding and came to visit us after we came home. I'll treasure the notes she took from his birth. My husband is so thankful for Laura and we love her. We know who we'll call for our next birth.
Choosing Laura as our doula was the best decision we made in our pregnancy! Laura was extremely helpful during my pregnancy and was always willing to answer questions and discuss any concerns we might have; she really helped to get us mentally and physically prepared for the process of birth. When we discovered our baby was in the breach position (she later turned!), Laura offered invaluable emotional support as well as resources to aid us in making a decision on how we wanted to proceed. Once my labor started, Laura was a calm and knowledgable presense in our home. Hiring Laura allowed us to confidently labor at home, which was much more relaxing for me. When we arrived at the hospital it was so helpful to have Laura show us exactly where we needed to go and what we needed to do; this allowed us to focus on the contractions and expidite the check in process. While pushing, Laura offered gentle encouragement and offered ideas of ways to make things easier. We truly believe that Laura was paramount in helping us to achieve the natural birth we were wanting. You will not regret hiring Laura to help you with your pregnancy/birth!
I decided last minute to use a doula for my labor. I searched doulamatch.com and came
across Laura's name. Reading through her profile I felt a peace that she would be the perfect person to help me through my labor. Laura was everything I needed do go all natural. She gave me books to read so I could educate and prepare myself. Laura was supportive and strong when I needed it most. She assisted my husband with positions to help labor progress. Laura read Bible verses and encouraged me through the hardest part of my labor. I am so thankful that I had Laura as part of my birth team. Labor is scary because of the unknown, but she helped give me confidence. My son came 3 weeks early and Laura was there at a moments notice. She became my voice when it was hard taliking through the contractions. When we got to our room, Laura helped set it up so I could be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. I will be forever grateful to her for all her help, support, and friendship during my labor, delivery, and post partum recovery.
Laura attended the birth of both our children. The first was an unmedicated natural birth. We were so encouraged by her coaching and support, that we knew excatly what we wanted to do the next time around! I contacted Laura and we hired her pretty early on. Our birth plan hopeful to be the same as with our first, but things changed when our son stayed in the breech position late into my pregnancy. Laura was a great support and provided a wealth of information of things I could try to help him turn. She contacted me often to see how I was doing. As my pregnancy came to the end, baby was still breech and I had to schedule a c-section after all. At first, my husband and I weren't sure if we still needed a doula anymore, but still asked her to come. I am SO GLAD we did! She was such an encouragement through my fears during the pre-op process, and did everything she could to make me comfortable- music, essential oils to help me relax, getting pillows just right, etc. She was also was an advocate in conveying my new birth plan to the nurses and anesthesiologist. When it came time for surgery, she was able to take some much cherished pictures, and then the biggest help, was that she was able to stay with me when my son was taken to the NICU. We had agreed my husband would follow him if he went to the NICU. If Laura hadn't been there, I would have been on my own for the rest of the procedure, which still took some time. Afterwards, I was shaky and nauseas from anesthesia and she sat with me for hours, a one on one care I could not have expected from nurses w/ multiple patients. Laura helped me establish pumping in the early hours when I was separated from my baby, reminded me to start trying to eat some liquids, and went w us to join him in the NICU once I could get into a wheelchair. She was there for us all day with little details that made a world of difference! HIGHLY recommend!!
Most reviews here are from the mother's perspective, so I thought I'd add one as a father. My wife and I both loved having Laura with us for our son's birth. She was immensely helpful, but not at all intrusive. I wanted to be (and was!) very involved in the birth process and Laura helped me do that better. We questioned if we actually wanted someone else with us, because we’re pretty private people, but we are so glad we decided to work with her! Laura met with us three times prior to the birth. She walked us through her services, decisions that would need to be made, exercises that could be helpful and in general helped make sure we were prepared for the birth. She reviewed our birth plan and helped make sure we had considered everything. It was obvious to us that she is experienced and it gave us confidence knowing she'd be around. When my wife began serious labor, I texted with Laura and kept her updated. Once we felt we could use her support she came over, quietly entered, and let us proceed with our relaxation techniques. She gradually got more involved, making suggestions when things got more intense. At home, Laura did two things that were very helpful. She stepped in to help with massage so my wife was never on her own when she needed someone. And, she was able to watch signs of progress and help make the call of when to stay and when to go. This allowed us to stay in the comfort of home much longer than we would have on our own. She followed us to the hospital and helped us carry everything in. Nurses are used to first time parents coming in early and having plenty of time to get ready. When we got to triage my wife was 9cm dilated! The nurses still weren’t in a hurry, so she went and explained the urgency to them, and helped keep things moving! Laura is so easy and comfortable to work with and she’s seen it all. Most importantly to me, she helped me as a father be as helpful as I could be and not waste time on anything unnecessary.
I said in my last review that if I ever found out I was pregnant again my first call would be to Laura and that statement came true. Laura is the first person I shared my pregnancy with because I was hopeful to gaurantee a spot in her schedule for our birth. Sure enough things lined up perfectly for that to happen.
Late in my pregnancy I was diagnosed with Choleostasis of pregnancy which is a rare liver condition assosicated with pregnancy. This required additional fetal monitoring and an induction at 37 weeks. Laura was awesome! She researched and educated herself about the condition and reassured me that even though I was having a medical induction, a natural birth was still worth trying for. She was available by phone and in person serveral times and really helped me prepare for the birth. Thanks to her encouragment and God's grace the birth went better than I could have hoped.
From the last time she was our doula to now, she is even more competent and prepared to help a laboring mom feel confident and comfortable. I was amazed because she was fantastic the last time and even more so this time. I thought it was great to see that she is still so invested in her practice and working to provide the best services she can. I loved the thoughtful notes and personal touches she provided to me at our postpartum visit! She is one of the best of the best for sure!
Laura was a wonderful choice, absolutely! For months I had wondered if I really needed a doula, as I never seemed to have many questions nor concerns to throw Laura's way. Each visit with her was filled with super informative tips and prep, I always learned many things; but my pregnancy was so normal that I felt quite silly that I had not very many requests or demands for her!
But once my labor started, I was thrilled to have her help. She remained in touch all day while my early labor was slow going. Once active labor endured and I felt that it was time to go to the hospital, Laura showed up straightaway. Immediately she knew where I was in the process, and knew the hospital (OU) well enough to set up shop and get everyone comfortable. I dont't recall much during this phase, but I do remember her cheerleading me on in such a way that was actually uplifting and believable in my exhausted, I-can't-go-on state. She fanned me with a cool, wet washcloth soaked with essential oil that was marvelous, and catered to everything I needed.
Around labor hours 24-25 I found myself in pushing state. Things weren't progressing like they should have, and the midwife had a feeling something was off. Before I knew what was going on I found myself surrounded by nearly a dozen people, with a surgeon stating that I was breech and that I needed a C-section, asap. Worst case scenario! Luckily, I was able to remain awake, and Laura and my husband were allowed into the operating room. Laura calmly explained everything as it was happening, and managed to even catch photos of our baby straightaway.
She spent some time after the birth making sure there was skin-to-skin and helped with breastfeeding. Upon her visit a week later we went over details - she had typed up a timeline with all the details of my labor, of which I am eternally grateful for as I had no idea what went on and when! Again, we were so grateful to have Laura, she was wonderful in every way!
Laura was a God sent blessing for me! When I began to plan my HBAC, I knew I wanted a doula. I wanted this VBAC to be healing, successful, and joyful, and I wanted an amazing doula to help me. After our first meeting with Laura, I knew I had found my doula. She was very friendly and informative from the beginning, full of patience for our questions and offering suggestions to help me prepare. Laura understood my deep desire to have a peaceful natural home birth, and listened to all my desires, doubts, and ideas. Laura is incredibly down to earth and it was so easy to just sit & talk with her.
Laura was such a wonderful encouragement for me during labor, keeping affirmations & Bible verses going through my mind and holding my hair and using a cold rag when I lost control of my stomach. As contractions intensified, she never stopped encouraging me and offering suggestions for coping. I was continually aware of her sweet support and strength. She used her heating pad, massaged my shoulders, squeezed my hips, made sure I had a fresh drink & ice chips, and always listened. Laura included my husband, kept him informed, and she helped him help me, which I so appreciated.
After the birth Laura was so active in cleaning me up and helping with baby.
I had difficulty delivering my placenta and ended up going to the hospital for a manual removal. Laura came and stayed with me through it all, leaving only after I was cleaned up, calm, and contentedly resting with my husband & baby boy. She even did my hair and makeup while I held baby in the bed. That may seem silly, but it was comforting and calming, and seeing her be so willing to go the extra mile meant the world.
Laura was such a rock for me. So encouraging, sweet, strong, & serving. We were completely satisfied with her as doula & friend in our successful HBAC and will absolutely be asking her to be involved in the births of our future children! Wonderful doula.
My husband and I were having our first child in January, 2015. We had been through a routine pregnancy with no surprises and an OBGYN in OKC. When I was six months along we moved two and a half hours away from the city, I was no longer working and had more time to invest into my pregnancy. By the time I even knew what a doula was, I was over 30 weeks along and knew I had to get to it right away. Laura was AMAZING! Since I am so far away, she and I had our first meeting via Facetime. It was a great idea that she had so we could get more of a personal conversation than a telelphone call.
Laura was there for every question I had and offered more than enough advice and suggestions on how to be prepared for a natural birth. I read books and did exercises that she recommended and when I was questioning my body, she was there to relieve my stress.
My birth was not at all what I wanted or planned, but that's ok. I ended up having to be induced. We started on a Tuesday evening and Laura was right there with my husband and I as we checked into the hospital. She stayed while the hospital staff and midwife did what they had to do and made sure we were comfortable before leaving becasue they were starting pitocin the next morning at five. Laura was there OVER 24 hours of my complicaed on/off labor extending from Tuesday evening-Thursday evening birth. She tended to my every need, even when i didnt realize I had them. She made sure I was eating, drinking, walking, and most importantly that noone was a bother to me. There was nothing that my husband or I wanted for becuase she was right there the entire time. Yes, she fully supported my husband during the whole stay as well. He was reluctant about having a Doula. The best part was when, after our son was born, he turned to her and said she was worth it and will be there for the birth of our next child as well!! Amazing is the biggest understatement for her, she is a blessing to our whole family!
I can't say enough good things about Laura. I had an ok experience with the birth of my first child, but after that experience I knew it could be better and I knew I wanted more. Laura helped us get that "more." She made us feel at ease and provided helpful information. She was always reachable for questions, and was friendly and easy to talk to. I could go on! I even opted for the massage and it was amazing. She provided all the support we needed during the very quick birth experience, immediately after, and at follow-up, which is also so important. Laura is just awesome and truly cares!! If I have another baby, I'm calling her!
We are so happy that we had Laura as our doula for the birth of our second child. I had a lot of negative feelings from the birth of my first child five years earlier. Laura listened understandingly to all of my history and concerns about being pregnant again and preparing for birth. She really helped me approach this new birth as a new experience. She was so encouraging and reassuring. She also provided us with resources to read and practice. We met with her a couple of times before the birth and also texted back and forth quite a bit. This birth was so much different than my first. Labor and delivery was much quicker, and I was able to stay more calm and focused. This was a healing experience, and a lot of that was because of all the support we had from Laura.
I delivered my first baby November 7, 2014, a week past my due date. Laura was a huge support during the weeks before, during, and after my labor and delivery. She was readily available during those last weeks to answer questions and provide encouragement and support. She went with me to one of my doctor appointments and even came over and gave me a massage! Laura is knowledgeable and up to speed on exercises and maneuvers that can help prepare your body for delivery. She was a great comfort and willing and eager to help both my husband and I experience the birth that we desired with our son. Laura exceeded our expectations and made our birth experience wonderful!!
I loved having Laura as my doula! I highly recommend her. What I loved most is that she is very supportive of the birth experience that her client wants. From the beginning, she made an effort to get to know me and my partner, and encouraged us to educate ourselves and used tools to help us develop our own goals for our birth of our first child. She was supportive of my desire to deliver naturally, but when that changed to using pain medication, she was not pushy but let me come to the decision on my own and then supported me through the rest of my birth. She stuck with me during my entire 40 hour labor!
I look back on my birth experience with an sense of ownership and no regrets. I know that having Laura as my doula helped achieve that for me. She went above and beyond what I expected from hiring a doula.
I am so grateful that Laura was our doula both as we prepared for and during the birth of our daughter! I originally wanted a doula because my husband is squeamish, and I wanted someone to be there to support both me and him during labor. I felt comfortable with Laura right away, and she was so helpful in helping us prepare for the birth. She provided reading materials and tips to help get us ready. During labor, she had so many suggestions and techniques to help me manage my contractions, and she was so positive and encouraging. The midwives assisting me were unfortunately very sour, negative people, and my husband and I were so glad to have Laura on our side when the midwives weren't. After hours of labor, we were told my baby had "arrested descent" and we made the hard decision to undergo a c-section. Laura accompanied my husband during the c-section, and she was such a source of support and encouragement to him in what was a very stressful time. Between the midwives and the unplanned c-section, there were a lot of challenges that came with my birth experience. Having Laura with us was invaluable in helping us keep our perspective and deal with these challenges the best we could.
After the c-section Laura stayed with us during my early recovery and offered tips to help my baby and me get started breastfeeding. She later gave me a timeline she'd prepared of exactly what happened during my baby's birth, and a CD of pictures she'd taken at the hospital. Everything about working with Laura was such a blessing - she'll forever be someone special to my husband and me. I wouldn't hesitate to have her assist us with any future births, and I can't recommend her highly enough.

This is our 1st child and we knew we wanted to use a midwife for the birth, we had also heard about Doulas and how they can help you through the whole pregnancy. So we decided to attend a meet and greet, and we got to meet with 6 different Doulas at that time. Laura was the 1st one we met and we liked everything about her; her personality, professionalism and how she described the ways she could help us through this crazy process. We ended up comparing everyone else to her and that helped us make the decision to pick Laura, no one seemed to match up to us as much as she did. As soon as we met with her again and set everything up, we immediatly felt more confident and excited about going through the birthing process. She let us know that she would be available to us whenever would need her, and I took her up on that since I had lots of questions :)
When the big day came, she was amazing! I could not have done it without her, she kept me going and helped my husband stay strong as I was holding on to him for dear life. We wanted to go as natural as possible and she made that possible by keeping me calm/breathing and putting heating pads and pressure on my back during contractions. After the birth, she stayed with us till we were going strong with breastfeeding and our family arrived to meet the new lil one.
After we got settled in at home and had a week to get used to it being the 3 of us, Laura joined us for the afternoon to check and see if we had any questions or concerns and she helped to boost my confidence that I was actually doing things right and that we could make it as parents. She made us a cd filled with pictures taken throughout the day and a personalized printout/timeline of the entire day's events that we could save and look back and remember that special time.
Laura was fantastic and I would recommend her every time. She made the whole experience go as smoothly as possble and I love her for that.
Let me start by saying that my husband and I had just decided to not have kids when we found out I was 8 weeks pregnant! I am generally a very Type A, research it all, 'know it all' RN and my husband is a laid back 'know it all'; however, the news had both of us so overwhelmed that we began going through the steps of preparing for our son like robots. As for myself, I was retaining no information, I was making decisions based on what the 'majority' said was best and I refused (and still do) to read any books. The one thing I was Hell bent on was a natural birth and I knew that my husband and I would need help.
At our very first meeting, my husband was late, leaving Laura and I time to sit and talk while waiting. From the first word, I felt as though I was catching up with an old friend. Laura had the unique ability to make me feel comfortable enough to be honest about how uneducated and unprepared I was for this child. She also had the talent to challenge some of my strong opinions/decisions without making feel the need to be defensive (very rare for a 'know it all' Type A Nurse :) When my husband got home, Laura patiently (and with a smile) repeated nearly everything we talked about for the last hour!
My labor was a total of 13hrs and Laura was right there for me the whole time! She was the perfect support for both me and my husband! She was patient, supportive, encouraging, and full of ideas to help ease the contractions. When it got to the point that I was begging for an epidural, she was able to encourage me to try different things and remind me of my strong desire to have a natural birth! It's easy to listen to someone who can lead by example!
I am proud to say that I got to reach down pull my baby up to my chest! And there is no way I could have done it without Laura! She is simply amazing! and has continued to be a great support since we've been home too!
I cannot say enough great things about Laura. This was my first pregnancy and I was very lucky to have Laura by my side. She was such a huge help leading up to and during my delivery. Her calming presence was exactly what I needed and I truly appreciated her help after delivery with nursing. After delivery she typed up notes about labor and it is very special to have.
My husband and I felt very comfortable with Laura from the beginning. We could be open and honest with her about what we expected and desired our birth to be like in an ideal situation and she was very supportive towards our goals.
During our labor and birth Laura was very intuitive with every situation. She always sinced if she was needed and was great at giving ideas to my husband and I. It was very important to me that my husband be apart and I felt like Laura was a great support for him.
Overall we were thankful that Laura was apart of such an intimate time in our families life.
Laura fought for my wishes from the start. She knew that I didn't want certain things, but as each of the conditions fell apart, she offered more options to try to make me feel comfortable. Pretty much every nightmarish thing that I had tried to avoid, was forced on me (induction, baby not staying on monitor, restrained to bed labor only, etc) and she stuck with me and my decisions. She made my husband feel very comfortable and he is hard to impress. He really liked Laura! She was open to letting me try oils, which gave me something else to concentrate on. I felt completely comfortable with her being with us in such an intimate moment and never felt judged. I would absolutely recommend Laura to anyone who feels they need a birthing coach or if their husband wants reassurance. (Mine likes to take naps during labor and watch movies) :) I used her for my third birth and really wish I would have had her for previous births! She's had 4 of her own, so I feel that she is more than experienced in labor and delivery! That was very important to me.
Laura Murray is my sister-in-law so I admit we are close outside of the birth experience. That said, I believe she is a great comfort to moms regardless of their relationship. She has a deep love & desire to see moms experience the joy of childbirth. She's had 4 natural childbirths & fully understands the emotional, spiritual, physical, life-changing moment of welcoming your baby into the world. She has a God-given ability to connect with a mom in the moment of her greatest trial & strength & respond with the exact words or touch you need. When I was pregnant with my first baby, I wanted to have a natural childbirth. No epidural. People thought I was nuts & couldn't do it, or shouldn't. My due date passed & I felt very discouraged. Laura persisted that some people naturally carry longer than others. She encouraged me & prayed for me. Eventually, I was induced. I thought my baby would come quickly but she didn't. Laura stayed at the hospital all night with me & my husband. After almost 24 hours with nothing to eat or drink, little sleep, and intense contractions I was wiped out. I got the epidural. Nurses persisted that I’d need a c-section because I wasn't progressing quickly enough. Laura helped me stand my ground & 12 hours later, I gave birth to a perfect baby girl. Two years later, my due date with my second child came & went & I was induced again. I was afraid of repeating the same long painful experience. Laura was by my side, armed with more wisdom than last time. We made some changes & I successfully delivered my baby girl without the epidural in only 8 hours! With my third baby, I went into labor on my own, a week past my due date. I delivered him naturally & as always Laura was right by my side. I've seen her grow in her love and wisdom. I attribute much to my experience & God's grace, but I wouldn't dream of giving birth without Laura by my side.
When I was pregnant with my fourth child I found myself once again considering the possiblity of trying for a natural, drug-free childbirth. I came very close with my first three but at that time, close equaled very late in the process epidurals. (I would later learn that my birth environment, lack of belief in myself and the need for additional support would make a world of difference.) For a little more back story, my husband had a co-worker whose wife had a baby a few weeks before mine was due. l learned that she had a successful natural childbirth with a doula. That was so inspiring to me; what a strong, first-time mom! I contacted her to get the scoop. At this point I was already just going with what I knew and was 32 weeks pregnant. She set me up with Laura's contact info and we got in touch.
After talking to Laura I knew I had to go for what I wanted. Laura is genuine, confident and has true charisma. She helped me see that this was important to ME and that I could do it and she would help me. I was also encouraged by her experience. I decided to make a change in care providers and switch to a hospital midwife. I was seen at the new provider at 36 weeks and my baby was born 2 weeks later.
Laura came to the hospital late at night and stayed with me until our daughter was born. She was such a comfort to my husband and they made a great team. She was intuitive to my needs and preferences. She coached me and helped me stay in control and in touch with my body. She is amazingly gifted at what she does. I believe she was the link to my success in achieving an unmedicated birth.
I would recommend a doula (specifically Laura) for any and every birth. It makes such a difference as a woman/mother to have someone there focusing 100% on you and uniting everyone around you. If I were to ever find out I were expecting another child my first call would be to her!
I highly recommend Laura to everyone I know! She was a huge help with the birth of my first child! Through Laura's support and reassurance, I was able to have a natural birth. I sometimes wonder if I would have made it nataurally without her! Laura is an excellent coach and comforter and knows just what to say. She is able to balance motivation with compassion and is a continual encourager. Having had 4 babies of her own, she is adept at anticipating needs and can truly empathize. We saw firsthand how Laura is a highly skilled and dedicated doula. Her passion for helping others is evident in all she does. During my pregnancy, she provided a wealth of information, was willing to answer questions anytime, and helped calm my fears about the birthing process. She is a fantastic doula! I If we have more children, I will be calling Laura!
Earlier in my pregnancy, I had mentioned to my husband that I was interested in hiring a doula. He wasn't enthusiastic. But a close friend of his told him that he hired a "coach" for his wife and it was the best thing ever! (Good friend) He gave us the name of their birth coach (Laura Murray), and his wife gave me her contact information.
I didn't know when I hired her that Laura was planning on starting her training just before I delivered. But I was so thrilled that she would be receiving a little instruction on top I the experience she already had. (Icing on the cake!) I thought I was getting a birth coach, and what I got was a doula in training! Awesome!
My previous birth experience was rotten because I didn't know what my "rights" were as a patient and how to make sure I got the experience I wanted. I wanted a natural birth but I didn't know how to "handle" a pain is never felt before... and neither did my husband who was nearly having a heart attack over me writhing in pain. Nurses pressed me into getting an epidural telling me I wouldn't dialate as well without it. So I got the drugs. Many more things went wrong with that birth experience... a cascade of intervention that possibly could have been avoided.
Not this time... This time I had Laura on my team. She was the voice of reason when pain caused me to lose all reason. She helped me walk the corridors to help labor get going better. Her professional presence was calming to my husband who felt he didn't have to "worry" about me as much and instead he could focus on comforting me. I was able to have the natural birth I wanted because I had the support I needed.
We haven't decided yet if we will have another child, but if we do we would definitely hire Laura again. We would certainly reccomend her to anyone who is looking to hire a doula in OKC.
Laura Murray has been my doula for two births so far. I did not get to labor the first time, as my son was born via emergency C-section. My blood pressure had become too high and reached a point that deemed an immediate delivery of baby was necessary. After my son was born, Laura was the first one to come into our room with us. I wound up sick from the anesthesia and Laura immediately jumped into action. She held bags up to my face while also holding my son to my chest so he could nurse. She then used cold, wet towels to wipe off my forehead and make me feel comfortable. I received so many compliments of Laura’s actions by nurses and family members who witnessed her efforts.
Fast forward two years later when my second son was born. Earlier in my pregnancy, I decided on having a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). That decision was an easy one to make initially, but I did have some lingering anxiety from my c-section. Laura helped me to face my fears—to not let them defeat me. My water broke at 39 weeks. I called Laura and she had me walk, instructed me to do nipple stimulation, encouraged rest and plenty of fluid intake. Once I was in active labor, Laura came over to be with me while I labored beautifully in the tub. During this time, Laura would plae cool rags on my neck and forhead, as well as keep me comfortable when I felt nauseated. She also applied counter pressure to my hips and back which felt amazing!I ended up being so comfortable that, by the time we arrived to the hospital, I was 10 cm and ready to push! The pushing stage really had me nervous, but once I got a solid grasp on Laura's hands and was able to focus my eyes into hers, I felt completely safe and was able to start pushing. I am very proud to say that I had a successful VBAC!
Laura also helped me in both of my post-partum periods. She checked in on me numerous times which made me feel truly cared for. I would highly reccommend Laura Murray to anyone!
