My experiences working with Sam we’re top-notch, both receiving care at the Birth Center, as well as handling the encapsulation of my placenta. She is caring, understanding and knowledgeable in her field. She helped me cope with my gestational diabetes diagnosis and troubleshoot moving forward in a healthy light. Her personal touch and passion matters. We actually encapsulated the placenta in my home, which was an incredible experience for us all. I loved being able to witness that process, understand the steps and truly value the end result. Hands-down, a stellar choice for your pre-and post partum needs.
Sam encapsulated my placenta after my second son was born. She was fast, courteous and kind. She stayed when she encapsulated the pills at my house and told me how to take them and was always there if I needed dosage changes.
Having my placenta encapsulated by Sam was the best choice I made in my PP recovery.
We met Sam through her HypnoBirthing class she was teaching at the birth center, as well as being a patient at the birth center where she worked with patients. I felt so comfortable with her instantly. My husband and I went back and forth about whether we wanted/could afford a doula. When I found out that Sam was a doula, I knew I wanted to hire her. It was so comforting to feel such a postive connection with someone in such a short amount of time. She was so accomodating with our last minute hire and both her and her partner were warm, professional, and patient. She was supportive via text with me during my two and a half days of labor at home, and she connected with my midwives about me. Her presence in the birthing room was so reassuring. She not only helped me with positions, counter-pressure, and words of affirmation, but she also guided my husband on ways to help. She knew so much about birth and labor, that at one point during my labor, when my midwife was busy helping another laboring mother, I felt 100% comfortable with just Sam being in the room. After the birth, she stayed until we were settled with our baby and felt comfortable with her leaving. I will most definitely be looking to hire her again when we are pregnant with our next baby, I could not have asked for a better experience with our first.
I did not hire Samantha for her doula services at the birth because my husband and I received our birth education from her, and she did such a good job training my husband, that I felt that would be all the support I would need. The education she provided allowed us to go into the delivery tub with confidence and without fear. She also encapsulated my placenta and did so in a timely and professional manner. Throughout the entire pregnancy and post-partum process she has made herself available for questions, and she brings a calm demeanor to every situation, from helping you make sure your car seat is in right, to holding your hand and distracting you while you get an IUD (ouch), Sam is the best to have around!
Where to begin...I can't say enough about Samantha and how wonderful she is to my family. From day one I felt so at peace having her by my side. With this being my first natural child birth I didn't know what to expect, Sam was there every step of the way not only for me but for my husband also. She was my biggest cheerleader when I felt I couldn't take the pain anymore. Samantha will always hold a special place in my heart, she shared that beautiful day with us. Having her in the room felt like having another family member present. Samantha, thank you so much for everything you have done for us. I look forward to seeing your wonderul warm smile every time I step into the birth place. ??
Sam was my doula for my second son's birth. Me and my Husband knew we wanted a different birth experience from our first son. I knew I wanted a waterbirth and I knew that I wanted a natural birth and that was the extent of my preparation. Neither of us could have made it through my 15 1/2 hr long labor without her.
Sam was by our side the whole way. She instinctively knew what I needed before I could even think about it. When I felt like giving up she encouraged me every step of the way. To say she is worth her weight in gold is beyond an understatememt!
Sam was my doula for my second child, but my first all natural birthing experience. There were many things I was so nervous about and Sam listened to everything and made me feel validated and confident moving forward. I felt that she was always there if I needed something. The actual birthing experience was amazing. She had previously asked about the picture in my head and made it so the day I went in labor. So thankful for Sam Mahon, doula goddess. Xo
Sam was fantastic throughout my entire pregnancy! She was always there either by text or phone to answer all my questions. We relied heavily on her and it took the pressure of my hubby. During birth, she anticipated all of my needs and I never had to ask for anything. She always had good suggestions to speed up delivery. If I was going to have another, Sam would be my go to doula. She's a fantastic person and the BEST doula! Awesome job!
Samantha was so supportive throughout the entire pregnancy and always responded to my questions or calls right away! my labor came fast and she was a phone call away and then got to the delivery room quickly after I arrived! I feel so thankful that I had her and the wealth of knowledge she brings at the birth of my 3rd (and only natural delivery)! She knew exactly what I needed to get more comfortable and end guided my husband so that he knew what to do to help! She stayed to make sure baby latched on and we had everything we needed. The placenta processing was done right at our home with my husband present (Baby and I were still at hospital). Encapsulation was done the day I came home and it was very quick! I cannot emphasize enough how helpful it was Encapsulating my placenta...my recovery was faster, milk production was more, and energy was great! Thanks Samantha!!
Sam is awesome! She is so passionate about her work and it shows. She met us at the hospital at 2am and supported my husband and I through my entire 24 hour labor there! She guided me through pain management techniques and laboring positions. She helped navigate us through our birthing experience by helping us know the right questions to ask and by helping us make informed decsions. I honestly don't know if I could have achieved my VBAC without her help and guidance. She helped us remain in control of our birth by empowering us and reminding us that we were in charge. The doctors were so ready to give me a repeat c-section, but just as we had pretty much exhausted all of our options, my stubborn cervical lip was gone and I was ready to push! It just took patience, positioning, and dedication. Sam helped bring all of those things to the table because heck, at that point I was ready to give up! I am so grateful to her for believing in me and helping me achieve something I wanted so badly, something that I almost didn't get!
Our pre and postnatal visits were greatly beneficial too! She lent me books and the Hyponobabies home study from her personal library, sent me info via email, and gave many printed handouts to help educate me. She helped me create a birth plan. She always answered any questions I had promptly through text or email. She helped me navigate through some of the feelings I was having about my birth through texts and at our postnatal visit. She also helped me find support with breastfeeding, did my placenta encapsulation, and got it to me in a timely manner.
Overall, I would recommend this amazing woman to anyone needing support from a doula! She is warm, kind, welcoming, and so dedicated! I felt so comfortable with her the second I met her! She is an angel!
Samantha was amazing. She was a quiet presence in our home days after giving birth and did a great job explaining the process as she went along (and as I asked questions). I'm so glad we had her come. The encapsulation process was simple and the benefits are real. I highly recommend.
I had Samantha as my doula for my birth in March. She was very attentive, understanding, and informative. I faced many challenges with my pregnancy/labor/and delivery, and never planned to have a natural birth. My goal was to avoid a c-section due to my medical problems, and with her help...I DID IT! She was not only my doula, but my primary support person. She truly brought a calming presence into my labor room and didn't leave my side. She used a lot of different techniques to keep me as comfortable as possible until my epidural, and then kept my labor progressing and talking me through the pain when the epidural wasn't working. When it came time to push, with her guidance, I pushed for only 18 mins. I was able to achieve my desired birth with her education and motivation! This was my first birth, and it wouldn't have been possible without her! Also, I was having a hard time breast feeding, and she put me in touch with a wonderful IBCLC, that came over and did home visit and got us on track!
Samantha was so great with everything. From the beginning, not only was she extremely prompt in responding to my emails and inquiries, but she understood it was important for me to feel safe and educated about placenta encapsulation. She met me for coffee once while I was still pregnant and answered all of my questions. Once I came home from the hospital after having my daughter, she was working diligently in my kitchen, and was a presence of peaceful power in what felt like an otherwise hectic return. After encapsulating my placenta, she left my kitchen super clean, and checked in on me, for literally, weeks. She made me feel so special and so important those first few weeks of new motherhood. She encouraged me, gave me advice, sent me links for some of the questions I had about breastfeeding, and everything else. I really thought that all I was paying her for was to encapsulate my placenta, and she ended up being so much more than that! I would highly recommend using her for any and all services she offers or that you're interested in!
We decided we wanted a doula because this was our first baby, I wanted to try for all natural, and we wanted to have someone with experience with us in the delivery room. We met a few and chose Samantha because she is knowledgeable and very organized. A folder with what to expect from a doula, her rates, and a plethora of great information was given to us to go over before we made our decision. After we signed she gave us books we asked for and even dropped off a Kindle with tons of reading material that I thought was great. She gave us a DVD and another folder full of articles she’s come across that really got me and my husband thinking of things we never talked about. Her 1st home visit was great. She was more like a therapist asking us how we wanted our birth, asked us many things to talk out as a couple, and went over our fears and how she’d help us along the way. We kept in touch throughout the pregnancy and she answered any questions we had like when I had Braxton Hicks contractions or what to ask the doctor at my weekly visits. Midnight on Valentine’s Day I started having real contractions, at 2am we contacted Sam to help us work through the contractions before going to the hospital. Sam has miracle hands and massaged my back to help me through the pain. We decided that it was time to head to the hospital. Sam had a bag of tricks that got me through my labor with no drugs and no tearing in 7 hours! Essential oils for nausea and a diffuser, hot pads for the pain, massage and tricks to get the baby to move down and out, and helpful hints to my husband when the nurses asked questions were all things Sam did. She was there the entire time and helped us have the most amazing birth story. After the baby was born she encapsulated my placenta, taught me breastfeeding techniques, and even let me borrow a breast pump. I’d use Sam again and recommend her 100% to anyone expecting.
When I found out I was pregnant with my third child I knew I wanted a different experience being it was my last pregnancy. With my other two pregnancies I noticed a gap in women's services. As wonderful as my doctor is, I still wanted a more holistic experience. My birth choices were different this time too. I wanted natural! Samantha helped curb my fears and gave me support but never pushed me to only stick with a natural delivery. The goal of any pregnancy is a healthy mom and healthy baby!!! I also had my placenta encapsulated and I wish I had done that with my other two! The encapsulation is done right in your own home and your placenta never leaves your sight. Samantha was lovely to work with and my only regret is that I did not use her with my other two pregnancies!
Sam was my doula for the birth of my third child. I could not have asked for better support. Unlike my first two labors, my labor was long and hard. Longer and harder than the others. The last five hours of it, she got me through it. I was scared and tired, afraid I wouldn't have the energy to push. Afraid they would have to transfer me from my home birth. I had been at 6-7 cm for forever, and I was terrified and doing everything I could to progress. But couldn't. I was so upset.
But she kept me going forward, advocated for me when I needed rest, and listened to me. My husband was exhausted, and he deployed 7 hours after our son was born. He was so concerned he would leave before our son was born. She definitely was a calming force for him as well.
She also helped me push him out - despite his difficult presentation - so that I didn't need an episiotomy. She gently reminded me to breathe and was the only voice i remember hearing at the end, encouraging me. I will be forever grateful. Without Sam, I know my birth would have gone quite differently.
I used Sam for Placenta Encapsulation for my first child. From initial communication to the final product, I could have not been more pleased. She was incredibly helpful, supportive, and flexible throughout the entire process. I did not use a doula for the actual birth of my son, but plan to hire one for future babies...and would be more than happy to work with Sam in that capacity as well. She comes highly recommended from our family!
Samanth Mahon was a pleasure to work with. I chose to have my placenta encapsulated and did the Bengkung belly binding. I researched the benefits of placenta encapsulation and after meeting with Samantha, she only reaffirmed the reasons of why placenta encapsulation is a great choice for mothers who can stomach the idea of intaking their placenta. The encapsulation process did not take long and I was even brave enough to look at the placenta once Samantha cleaned it out. I have a keepsake that I will cherish forever and it will always bring memories of the beautful birth. The Bengkung binding was effective. I stopped sooner than I had hoped to. I'm tempted to purchase some more material to do it again. Samantha Mahon is professional, very informative and is a warm soul. She has the personality that makes you feel like you've known her for years.
Sam was an excellent doula! We highly recommend her services to anyone that needs an experienced, supportive, knowledgeable, and caring person to be there to assist with a wonderful birth. She always had great ideas during labor on ways to comfort my wife through contractions. She was consistently helping to keep us on track with our birth plan that included no pain medication, as well as reminding us of important questions to ask the nurses and doctors. She provided alternative pain reduction methods such as different scents of aromatherapy, changing of positions, counterpressure, and breathing instruction. After the baby was born, my wife had to be rushed into emergency surgery and Sam stayed with me for over 5 hours to provide support and make sure my wife was alright after surgery. Sam is a USAF veteran and she truely showed a characterisitc to go above and beyond the call of duty for us! I deeply believe that without Sam in our corner, our birth experience would not have resulted in as positive of an outcome as we experienced. If you are thinking of using the services of a doula, you should not hesitate to contact Sam and know that she provides remarkable service, comfort, and knowledge.
I chose Samantha to do my placenta encapsulation for my first birth. I also purchased the tincture and salve and am considering taking advantage of her yoni steaming and belly binding services. The day I went into labor, Samantha told me she was states away from me. I was instantly concerned but remained calm. When I gave birth that night (2 weeks early) I let Samantha know and two days later she was at my home preparing my products. She provided thorough instructions and left a placenta print even though my placenta had been handled pretty roughly before it got to her. I didn't know if I really wanted that before but it is priceless to me now. That and my baby boy's cord, which she shaped into a cute little heart. Her prices were significantly lower than any other person I researched, she was the only person who insisted on the importance of her working in my home and never taking my placenta, and she worked with me on payments. I couldn't be happier with my choice and highly recommend her! Thank you so much Samantah for making this experience possible for me.
Sam was great! Despite being out of state at the time of my delivery she still made it on time and was there til the end. She made a few prenatal visits to help me get prepared and always answered any questions i had promptly. She was very sweet and helpful and i believe her background as a paramedic is a bonus in case anything medical came up. I felt very comfortable with her....like she was a good long time friend.
Sam was our doula for our third child's birth. We knew we would have a hospital birth and that I had been induced with my past two childbirths because I went past my due date. I wanted to have a natural birth or as close to it as I could. From 38 weeks on to past 40 I had prodromal labor. Sam was so kind and understanding. She exchanged messages and positive reassurance for me through that frustrating and long wait. She was ready at the drop of a hat to come when I needed her. When my water finally broke and things got going, Sam came to the hosptal and walked around with me. She supported my decisions and wishes. She had an impressive arsenal of relaxation techniques which she employed and they really helped out a lot. Even when I got to the point where I wanted to throw in the towel and have an epidural (during transition), Sam was an angel. She didn't get pushy or judgmental. She asked me if I was certain and then put the medical staff into high gear. Throughout the time I waited for medication she helped support me and my husband. When it turned ou that there was no time for an epidural she was doing everything she could possibly do to keep me upbeat and comfortable. Even when I was exasperated and saying 'I can't' , she was right next to me saying 'Yes, you can.' I felt comfortable and empowered by my childbirth and I know I would have tapped out so much sooner without her help. She also provided encapsulation services for us which tremendously impacted my recovery. Her resources are impressive. Her tenacity and thoughtful care were a blessing. She is a wonderful doula and if I had another child and lived near her I wouldn't give a second thought to hiring anyone else.
Sam is an amazing doula! I highly recommend her. My husband and I used Sam as our doula for the birth of our second child. I liked Sam right away when I first met her. She is warm, friendly, and listens well. My 3 year old liked her immediately, even though he's shy. This was important to us as we were having a home birth and he'd be home. We met with her a few times before the birth. Throughout my pregnancy she checked in via email/text. As my due date appproached, our conversations became frequent. I felt like I had a dear friend who knew a ton about birth and could contact with any questions. When I thought I was in labor (which happened at least 3 times), she gave me tips on how to move the process along. Sam was always easy to contact and responded timely. When it was finally time for labor, she came to my house, asked me about how I felt, and spent time with our son while we prepped things. Sam brought a diffuser with lavender which made my room smell good and relaxing. With the arrival of the birth team my labor slowed, but Sam knew how to keep it moving. As labor progressed, Sam used techniques to comfort me and listened to what helped or didn’t, often by my head nods. She empowered my husband to help me through contractions. At one point in labor I felt I couldn’t go on. I asked her to tell me I could do it. She replied, “You ARE doing it!” She could not have spoken better words. That simple sentence is one of my favorites ever! She kept me focused when I began to lose it and reminded me of good technique. During pushing, I remember looking at her with a pleading look. Sam responded with a look of strength in her eyes and a little nod. Without words she told me I could do it, I was doing great, and I was strong. I couldn't have asked for a better doula. She gave me so much strength! I could go on and on about Sam. She has the right heart and spirit for birth.
I have had the wonderful pleasure of working alongside Samantha as co-doulas at a birth. She has such a calming presence and has a great ability to make her clients feel at ease. Samantha is well suited for both hospital and home births, as she works very well with all types of providers. She brings such a special touch to the care that she offers her clients with her holistic approach to childbirth. Any mother would be so lucky to have her guidance in pregnancy and birth, and would benefit greatly by having her expertise as an experienced birth doula available to them. Samantha is such an asset to the birth community and I highly recommend her to expecting mothers!
I would like to start off with saying Samantha was amazing, she was very personable, kind, very helpful and extremely passionate in what she does.
My husband and I decided to encapsulate my placenta at the very end of my pregnancy, concerned we were to late but still hopeful; I contacted Samantha and she made time for us. Our daughter was born early in the morning a few days later, we contacted Sam as soon as we could to let her know and she rushed straight to us. Samantha was very quick, clean with her work and surprised us with some very special extra keepsakes, a beautiful print of my placenta and a keepsake cord. I couldn’t ask for more! I feel not only did I get the amazing benefits of encapsulation but I also made a great friend, Samantha has stayed in touch and has been very helpful with many things!
I'm so grateful to have met Samantha. I would and do recommend this process to anyone and everyone!
I didn't have Sam as a Doula because I didn't even know what one was at the time I gave birth, however she has helped me now more than words can describe but I will try. 3 months after having my second son I was lost, we found out he had a milk, soy, and corn allergy and no formula would work for him. I had already dried up after unsuccessfully breast feeding and now I was told his only good option was breastmilk. Some ladies recommended Sam. I was so upset I didn't even look at the time. I called her at 1030 at night and first she just reassured me and no then she came up with a plan of action. She rented me a pump and took care of getting all the necessary supplies. She walked me through every step of the way to relactation. She helped me with getting in touch with milk donation groups to keep my son fed while I tried. She was was a lifeline who supported me through the tears and the feelings of inadequacy. She also helped me find the right words to explain things to my husband and family when they were uncomfortable with donor milk. After trying unsuccessfully t relactate she supported me with knowing I wasn't failing my child. There is no words I can write on here to truly explain the type of support and help I received, at all hours, and so openly. All I can say is thank you and hope those words are enough. (Ps my son is now on the growth charts and doing well and Sam played the largest role in that miracle!)
Samantha is amazing. She was always available when I had questions or concerns. My little boy came about a month early so she had not planned on coming out to me yet but she was right there, perfect timing! She did my placenta encapsulation and made me a nice little keepsake with it too! After I had the pills she checked up on me to see how I was doing and was very helpful and caring. Birthing, empowering woman, postpartum and everything in between are her passions and it shows. I'm so glad she was there I would not have trusted anyone else.
Samantha was a great doula. She was very supportive of what I wanted out of my birth experience. With her expertise and thoughtful bed side manor throughout the whole birthing experience, I was able to get what I wanted out of the experience as well as a healthy baby girl out of it. My doctors had diagnosed me as "high risk" during my pregnancy so a cesarian birth option was brought to my attention many times. With that in mind Samantha, was able to help me and my husband advocate for an almost natural vaginal birth. Being 41 weeks and 6 days pregnant, my healthcare provider had said that my amniotic fluid levels were low so i had to be induced that afternoon. After having spent the previous night at my house when my mucous plug fell out, she rushed to the hospital as soon as we found out what was next. Samantha researched all the medications that were given to me by the nurses as well as helped coach my husband in the type of questions to have ready when a new procedure was about to be introduced. She helped me get through contractions without pain medication for a great deal of my labor. When the healthcare providers forced me to remain bed ridden after Pitocin was introduced she had helped me remain as comfortable as possible without an epidural for a few hours. After epidural was given and I couldn't move the bottom half of my body. She introduced bed positions where my legs were propped up in different ways with me on my side every half an hour. The baby was able to move down easier. Because of her quick thinking and persistence I was able to get from 2cm to 5 cm within a couple hours and than from 5 cm to 8 cm with 90 percent effacement within one hour. All the while, the midwife had been making preparations for a c section. I was able to have the vaginal birth I had wanted because of Samantha's persistence, positive attitude and support for both my husband and I. She was an amazing doula and I would recommend her services to anyone.
Samantha was my first doula. She instinctively knew what I needed. She was a calm, strong presence, keeping me informed at what my body was doing and preparing for. She involved my husband in performing pain management techniques so that he increased my comfort , which helped my husband feel a significant part of the birth experience. The best thing she did for me was to constantly affirm my efforts to bring my dear child into this world without medication. I am the type of person who continually doubts myself, and she stood by me, and constantly validated me. Having me describe it does not fully convey how important it is to verbalize positivity throughout a birth and constantly support the mother. When a woman is in pain, she doesn't have the energy to spare to try to build herself up or fight the ingrained culture that has told her that she can't to it without medication. But Samantha's gentle constant words helped me see that I could put my past birth experiences behind me and work with the strength of my body, which knew exactly what to do. It remains the most pleasurable moment of my life, when Grayson was born. Thank you, Sam. I would never have fully understood it without you!!!!
Sam has the unique ability to make the entire pregnancy, labor and deliver experience the time of your life! My third pregnancy started out rough. I was being seen by a practice where I saw a different OB every visit, had high BP, pre-eclampsia, was at risk for inductions...needless to say it was a nightmare. Then Sam came to the rescue. She provoided a plethora of resources as well as options and together we controlled my BP free of medications! I went from potential induction at 37 weeks to carrying to 41 weeks and 4 days! Again at risk of an induction because OBs don't like you to carry past 42 weeks, Sam coached me through a variety of baby spinning methods and yet again saved me from an induction! At 41 weeks and 4 days I went into labor naturally :) She not only coached me but my husband as well. The techniques she taught us made the delivery process so intimate and for the first time EVER my husband felt connected to the whole process! He was in tune with my body, was anticpating my needs, providing hip squeezes etc all the skills he learned from Sam. Within 3 hours of arriving at the hospital we welcomed in our third son completely all natural and FREE of all interventions!!! We cannot thank her enough because without her support and guidance during my pregnancy we would have been denied the AMAZING birthing experience we still smile on. She was dedicated 110% to helping us achieve the pregnancy and delivery we wanted. She FaceTimed, educated us, and what I loved most was put us in charge by giving us OPTIONS! Sadly, I suffer from hypoplastic breats and am unable to fully breastfeed my babies. She coached me through my emotional sorrows and provided the assistance I needed to increase my milk supply to my body's full potential allowing me to successfully supplement my newborn son! For me, Sam was more important than my OB! Do yourself a favor and give her a whirl, she's worth it!
Samantha serviced me as a doula during my all natural labor and birth with my second child in November 2012. She was a godsend! At the time she was shadowing another doula, but she really stepped in and did whatever she felt that I needed! Her hands were empowering, doing hip squeezes, and counterpressure on my back. Looking at her and hearing her words of encouragement truly were magical when I was in the midst of labor! I could not have had the exact birth I had planned without her assistance!! She continued to be there for me after my daughter was born to give advice on breastfeeding and babywearing. She is such an amazing woman and I am so glad to know her! :)
