It was only about a month before my due date when I found Jenna. I had moved mid-pregnancy from France and when I arrived at my new home, I found a doctor in a hurry and hadn't had a chance to shop around to find someone who really respected my views. It wasn't until I talked to a friend about her birth experience that I realized that I was heading into a situation that did not conform to how I wanted my own labor and delivery to be. My friend helped me find Jenna's website online. I called Jenna and right away, after hearing my story, she hit the ground running, helping me find a new doctor and hospital where my wishes for labor and delivery were respected. She alleviated my anxieties about switching doctors and hospitals at such a late date. Through our pre-natal visits, Jenna helped my husband and I discuss our expectations and make a plan for labor. In the end, I had a labor and delivery experience that makes me feel exceptionally powerful and proud. I could not have done that without Jenna. She supported both my husband and I and guided us through an experience that we will always cherish.
We were brand new to the child birth and parenting thing so when we set out to find a doula we didn’t know exactly what to look for other than someone who was qualified and easy to get along with. So after a little bit of searching we found a doula for our labor but then due to a last minute family emergency, she had to back out. Fortunately she made some preparations so that we weren’t left empty handed and were quickly introduced to Jenna as our back-up doula. We couldn’t have been more pleased!!! My husband and I we were so glad she ended up being our doula. Jenna has such good energy and a happy presence about her. These things made the long labor and delivery so much easier. Her breathing facial expressions were excellent! I had no idea how extremely helpful such a simple expression would be and it’s exactly what I needed to make it through the contractions. When you meet Jenna you’ll immediately notice that she is a very loving person and this made us feel very comfortable with her from the start. In addition to making my life easier during the labor and contractions, she even made sure my husband was taking a minute or two to eat something and stay positive throughout the whole ordeal. Every time someone asks me what helped you the most in natural Labor, I always say “get a good doula!” I wish everyone could experience how wonderful Jenna is as a doula! She keeps in touch with us to this day and as funny as it sounds, we consider her a dear friend and part of our family. My husband and I are expecting again and my only regret is that I don’t know the exact date our baby will be born because if I did, I would fly her out to be our doula again. Seriously I would! We can’t say enough great things about Jenna and we strongly recommend you speak with her if you’re considering a natural birth. We love you Jenna!
2000 character limit isn't enough when talking about how amazing Jenna was as a doula. From the first moment that we met, she made me feel comfortable around her, like we were old friends. She is a fountain of knowledge ready for every question, silly or not. I loved how she had books for me to check out from her. How kind and smart is that? I love how she gave my husband and I homework. It took us out of this overwhelming place, emotionally, and helped us focus on what was important. More than any of that though, more than her visits before "show time," more than being available via text or phone whenever something concerned me, more than all that, she was everything I needed during my delivery. She was prepared for everything. I had my husband on the right hand side of me and Jenna was on my left. They BOTH had essential parts to play. I could not have done it without her. Well, I guess physically I could have, but it would not have been such a pleasant and wonderful experience that I have always dreamed of when having a child. Thank you Jenna for everything. I'll never have another baby without you being there! Hire this woman and thank me later.
Jenna has been in my life for many years and has proven to be a great listener. This is such an important quality in someone who is supporting you through childbirth. I looked back on a Facebook message thread that covered conversations we had while I was pregnant with my now 2 and a half year-old daughter. Knowing that Jenna had an interest in natural birthing and had done some research from books and knowledgeable women in the field, I asked her for advice on writing my birth plan. I appreciated her advice at the time and the how she conveyed it without judgement or pressure. Looking back, I realize she had a good feel for what I was looking for in a birth experience. In my case, no Pitocin unless necessary for the baby's health, no pain medications, a variety of birthing positions, access to hallways for walking and food for keeping me comfortable and well-nourished. A water birth was not available to me, but she let me know more about the benefits of that option, like a reduced risk of tearing.
A few months after my little girl was born, Jenna spent a week or so at our house to spend time with us, lighten our load of chores, and get to know the little one. She cheerfully helped with dishes, cooking, and more. You'll see when you meet her that Jenna has a calming presence. She anticipated what we needed even when we weren'e comforable asking for help. She was equally happy to sit quietly with us, get on the floor with us to play, or to talk. She's a champion of women trusting our bodies and enjoying birth and motherhood.
Since then, we've talked at length about my wonderful natural birth experience and my hopes for my upcoming birth around June of this year. If I lived closer (than Pennsylvania), I would have a better chance of her sharing in our birth experience. She takes joy iin lending support and comfort.
I have been lucky enough to spend the past 10 years growing alongside Jenna Mozingo and witnessing her become the person she is today. Knowing someone for such a span of time leads to remarkable transference of experience, energy, and love. I know that I am a better person for having met her and the beautiful energy that Jenna exudes. Her caring mindset, unending thoughtfulness, and lighthearted humor always puts me at ease. There's something to be said about the ability to calm someone, especially a restless person such as myself, simply by being around a person like Jenna.
In the past, Jenna has been someone I can turn to with questions and know that I will get a thoughtful, informed response in return. She is dedicated to honesty and the pursuit of the best choice relative to each circumstance as a result of that candor.
When Jenna first told me she had intentions of becoming a doula, I knew that it was a perfect fit for someone who cares so deeply and so passionately about helping others find their right path. She is committed to the craft of caring and informed consent. For anyone who is looking to give birth with a sense of confidence and peace, I cannot recommend her highly enough. Her warmth and kindness is sure to benefit your entire family in welcoming new life!
