Kristin is an amazing doula.  She is so caring, very knowledgable, professional, approachable and offers tough love when we needed it in the delivery room.  She helped us deliver our almost 10 lb. baby boy without an epidural, and coached us through all of the inducing and ups and downs and choices we had to make along the way.  She was very respectful and worked extremely well with our nurses and midwives at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and gave us the confidence we needed to get through the most amazing and terrifying experience of our life: safely delivering our firstborn in the most natural way possible.  She was a great resource for both my husband and I before, during and after our son was born.  We hope to have her at all the births of our children.

Kristin was my doula with my second and third deliveries.  Both were successful in-hospital, unmedicated VBAC's.  I attribute her calm demeanor and seasoned experience with helping me achieve the birh experience I wanted to reclaim after my first delivery resulted in an unplanned c-section.  She was attentive and available throughout both pregnancies she helped me with and was absolutely indespensible during both labor & deliveries.  Her calm demeanor and helpful suggestions provided relief to both my husband and myself especially as I progressed through transition and pushing.  Also, Kristen has a great working relationship with the midwives at the hospital where I delivered, having worked as a doula with many other women who delivered at the same place.  This contributed to the feeling that the whole team in the delivery room was working seamlessly together towards the same goal of supporting me through the process.  After my first successful VBAC I was so happy that I had hired Kristin and there was no question I wanted her support again for my next delivery.

I had planned a natural child birth at the Alternative Birth Center. At the orientation we were encouraged to hire a doula. Kristin’s website was very professional and she has tons of experience and attended many births. When I e-mailed her she called me right away. She was interested in what I wanted from her, made me comfortable and answered all my questions. She was calming and encouraged me to let the baby come on his own timetable. She was completely available and told me her schedule around my due date. When I called or texted her, she was always there. The night my labor started, I called Kristin and prepared for laboring at home for a while. It was 11pm (she picked up the phone right away) and we discussed when I should call her back. I called again twenty minutes later to have her come to the house. My husband started getting ready for the hospital but minutes later I was in full labor. He called Kristin again as she was en route to our house. Because I was ready to push, we called 911. My husband prepared to deliver his son on our living room floor as policemen, firefighters and paramedics piled into our house. The paramedics tried to convince me to go to the hospital but it was too late. Kristin arrived right behind the paramedics and we told them she was qualified to deliver my son and insisted that she do so. Kristin calmly, confidently and spontaneously delivered my healthy baby boy in our living room. She communicated with the paramedics, letting them know the baby was fine and even waited to cut the cord as we had discussed in my birth plan. When the paramedics transferred us to the nearest hospital, Kristin went with us and supported us there. When we came home, she followed up with us and came to see how we were doing. I got to experience Kristin as both a doula and a midwife, and there is no question, if I ever have another child I will hire Kristin as my home birth midwife. I strongly recommend Kristin!

When I got pregnant with my first child, as like many, my husband and I didn't know what to expect. Some of our friends hired and used doulas before abe had great experiences with them throughout their pregnancy, labor and delivery. We wanted someone to support us with our decisions and offer their experience, knowledge and guidance. We received Kristins name from my chiropractor and when we met with her we connected. I was past my due date 3 days when I went into the hospital for a stress check and discovered I had a slow leak in amniotic fluid. My husband and I made the executive decision to check into the hospital. My labor was not progressing and in turn I was having a challenging time with it, so having Kristin there for the entire process to help myself and my husband was a blessing! All in all I ended up having a vaginal delivery and so glad she was there to support us. I would recommend her to anyone interested in a doula!

Kristin was our doula last year for the birth of my first child in September.  We were initially skeptical about having a doula involved in our birth but this turned out to be the best decision that we could have made especially as first time parents.

From the moment that we met her we were impressed with her knowledge and relaxed approach.  She was a wealth of knowledge and was able to recommend a fantastic birth educator and provide numerous other recommendations.  This was useful as we had a lot of questions.

The whole process was educational and prepared us well for the birth and I appreciate the post birth support and follow ups.

We ended up having a challenging birth but Kristin was with us the all the way.  She went above and beyond to provide additional support which was greatly needed.

We highly recommend Kristin, we look forward to engaging her services and expertise as we grow our family.

My first daughter's birth was an un-planned C-section after an unuccessful 4-day induction.  It was a difficult emotional experience.  I became pregnant 15 months after her birth and knew I wanted to attempt a VBAC.  My GYN practice was initially supportive of that, but by my 20-week appt, the tune began to change.  The doctor recommended I schedule my c-section "just in case" and started focusing on possible large fetal birthweight and stating I would not be "allowed to go past 40 weeks".  I had a choice to make:  stay with this practice and almost surley have a repeat c-section or switch practices mid-pregnancy for a better chance.

It was around this time I began researching doulas.  I knew from research that a doula increases the success of a vaginal birth and/or successful VBAC.  I count myself so very fortunate that I found Kristin Lacey.  On the phone, after telling her about my situation, she mentioned the midwives of HFWB.  She had experience working with them and knew they were VBAC-supportive.  After a few more phone calls and a long talk with my husband, we switched practitioners mid-pregnancy.  We met with Kristen and were sure we had made a great match.  She was friendly, professional and very patient with our crazy 21-month old who came along for the initial meeting!

I had an unmedicated VBAC on 6/6/14 (10 days "late") at HFWB and credit Kristen as a big factor in that success.  She came over to our house in early labor and kept me moving and brought peppermint oil which helped my nausea.  Once at the hospital, she intuited when to offer coaching/support and when to give quiet comfort.  In transition, I started to weaken and consider an epidural and I am so glad so was able to guide me through that rough part without me folding.  She was a great help to our whole family and we are eternally grateful!

We are so glad that Kristin supported us during the birth of our first child. Always in control, patient, calm and thoughtful about all the comfort measures for natural childbirth and everyone's well-being. She played a major part in making it a special experience for us just as we had hoped it would. Especially as we are expatriates from Germany!! Thank you so much, Kristin!! Janine+Alex

Kristin was wonderful to work with during and after giving birth to our son. our son came 4.5 weeks early and had to arrive via c section. Kristin came to the hospital and also was there for us upon our arrival at home to help get adjusted to our new life as three! Her services were greatly appreciated as she was very thorough with what was happening during and after pregnancy.
