Birth Fee: $600 to $1200

Fee Details: Monthly payments available. Birth is my full time job, both delivering babies at home and assisting moms who seek natural birth and lower intervention rates in hospitals. I have an insurance NPI number that may help with reimbursement for childbirth education or doula fees. Please book early as I accept only 2-3 doula clients per month, although I also train student midwives who provide lower-cost or volunteer doula services based on availability. During the past 13 years, I have supported moms at hundreds of beautiful births in nearly all valley hospitals and birth centers. Please see my reviews at ArizonaMidwife.com, google or facebook, and call me any time at 602-MIDWIFE (643-9433). My "advanced doula package" includes 24/7 access, and when appropriate, doctor consults and active home monitoring while in early labor, providing you with "progress of labor" feedback to help you decide when to go to the hospital.

Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
I attend births at all valley hospitals, and if possible, I will meet you at your home at the onset of labor in order to facilitate a smooth transition to the hospital. As an midwife trained in all aspects of normal birth, I uniquely specialize in supporting moms who want to effectively manage pain and speed labor while minimizing hospital interventions and reducing their chances of having a cesarean section. I can also offer additional support and have experience with breech presentations, multiple births (twins), and Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). One of my greatest strengths is my ability to develop a calm working rapport with doctors, hospital staff, and family members, even when some might be anxious, impatient or frazzled. We are all part of YOUR birth team, and you call the plays, and our job is to deliver your vision for your birth. As a hospital doula, it is my job to support you in your decisions, support you physically and emotionally, answer all of your questions with facts and evidence-based information, and help you achieve the birth experience of your dreams.
Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers
I have visited and worked with all of the birth centers in the valley (and in other states), and I have developed a working rapport with many of the midwives and doctors who work at them. I typically meet you at home at the onset of labor, and when ready, we can go together to the birth center, or I can even go ahead of you to make sure everything is set up just the way you want it. Birth centers are generally very supportive environments, but most still recommend the continuous emotional and physical support of a doula throughout labor. In a birth center environment, we typically stay with you for 1-4 hours after birth and we can also help with the family, take or arrange photography, arrange for placenta encapsulation, go over breastfeeding, and help facilitate family bonding experiences, etc. I absolutely LOVE working with all of the valley birth centers, so if you are interested in an enhanced nurturing and supportive birth center experience, call me at 602-MIDWIFE (643-9433).
Attends home births? Any Home Birth
Are you curious about home birth? I am part of an experienced team of midwives who specialize in safe and comfortable home birth and water birth. We can uniquely offer a full suite of midwifery services to help you create your ideal home birth experience. I believe in safety first and foremost, so I only accept low-risk clients for home birth, and I carry specialized medical equipment typically found in a neonatal equipped ambulance.

I would highly recommend Alicia to anyone looking for a birth professional to support their personal vision for birth. In addition to having experience with births in homes and hospitals, Alicia also used to be a massage therapist specializing in pregnancy massage. I have never met anyone who knew so much about pregnancy, birth, and relaxation techniques. She visited me at my house before the birth and when needed, she gave me some massage and taught me several new techniques for relaxing and relieving tension. She is very responsive to her emails, and when labor began, she came to my house immediately and stayed with me during my entire labor process.

When we arrived at the hospital, the nurses already knew her and were delighted to see her. Everyone loved her, and she could talk their language, which was so very valuable to me. Even though there were a few minor hiccups at the hospital, Alicia helped smooth those out, and the birth of our baby girl was the birth of my dreams, and Alicia was a critical part of making that happen.

My husband and I met Alicia when she spoke at our childbirth class. I talked to her and asked her questions for months which she happily answered even though we procrastinated hiring her until three weeks before our birth (when the panic started setting in). The moment we hired her all of our anxiety and fears just dissolved away, because we knew we had the best birth team possible.

Alicia met to discuss my goals for a drug-free birth, and she advocated for me, and we achieved all of our goals, and the birth was a beautiful experience. In the end, I can’t believe we procrastinated and faced all of that anxiety alone and almost found ourselves in a position where Alicia might have been too busy to accept us. Next time I am hiring her the moment I know I am pregnant!

PS. Alicia is the BEST!

I was so excited to find Alicia, who was highly recommended from a friend who had her adorable twins with her. During my pregnancy, Alicia answered her phone on the first or second ring every time I called and responded to text messages within seconds and emails in minutes -- even my best friends don't respond so quickly. She answered every question I had with encyclopedic precision, and if she didn't know an answer, she either gave me a referral or did some research and got back to me the same day.

The birth of our daughter was a beautiful day.  From the moment Alicia arrived, she helped us create a spirit of calm and peace, and helped me achieve my natural childbirth goal.  I cannot recommend Alicia strongly enough.

And now that I am a mom, Alicia is still on speed dial as I become doctor mom for our growing family, and she still answers by the second ring every time -- no one has ever made me feel so important.

Alicia was absolutely amazing.  I was determined to have a natural birth and took Bradley classes to prepare.  Alicia helped make that possible.  She helped me get through each contraction, one at a time, in a way that was bearable.  She also helped keep me focused, and kept encouraging me every step of the way.  It was my first birth and, luckily, it went extremely smoothly, and I know part of the reason was because she was there.  I also think that the hospital staff left us alone more than they would've if she wasn't there, probably because they knew Alicia would let them know if there was an issue.  I also felt more comfortable having her there because I knew that she was looking out for me and my baby and knew what my goals were.  Overall, she was a huge help and I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to have a natural child birth at a hospital.

Alicia is wonderful!  We hired her to be our doula and monitrice. She is very knowledgable, friendly, and warm, which is why we hired her. Everytime we had a question, she got back to us in a very reasonable period of time. She never rushed us through appointments - we always felt like she was there to answer all our questions. She was a calming presence during labor and was very supportive of my experience. She was also a great advocate for me. I couldn't have asked for a better doula.

Alicia is amazing! She was very helpful to my husband and me during our pregnancy and during the delivery of our twins. She is knowledgeable and always had the answers that I needed in a time of concern/panic. I would recommend her to anyone in need of doula/midwife services. If we are pregnant in the future we will definitely be using her again. Thank you Alicia!!!

My husband and I were lucky to have Alicia as our doula for the birth of our daughter in December 2013. Having prepared through the Bradley Method classes, we were introduced to the doula "concept" and knew it was essential for us for our hospital birth. Alicia came out to our house to meet us and was flexible when I found out I would need to be induced 3 weeks before my due date. She came in during the middle of the night to the hospital, even after attending a home birth that night! Alicia was a crucial resource to us during the night as my baby was experiencing fetal distress. I still had a beautiful labor and birth experience and Alicia aided with her deep knowledge and experience! She made us feel safe and secure. In the end, I needed a C-section, but even with the surgery she helped me come to the decision on my own and feel good about it. Her gentle presence was part of what made our birth excellent! Doulas are truely worth their weight in gold and Alicia is just that!

Trying to put into words how I feel about my labor and delivery experience is not an easy task. Alicia was amazing in helping me have the home birth I really wanted. She was very caring and I believe helped me be more comfortable and achieve the calm and beautiful labor and delivery that I had. Alicia is well gifted in this profession and has an obvious passion for what she does. I want you to know from my heart, that I think you are truly wonderful at what you do. My birth would not have been the same without you there. I can not tell you in words how amazing this experience was for me. Thank you for being apart of it.
