Melissa was my doula for the birth of my second child. My first pregnancy and delivery was an extremely emotionally challenging time for both me and my husband. I hoped this time would be smoother, but I knew I wanted some extra emotional support. Turns out this pregnancy had different emotional challenges and I am so glad I had Melissa to lean on through all of that. She was absolutely wonderful during my birth once she got to the hospital. My only regret is that I didn't ask for her to come sooner. I labored at home for 12 hours on my own and I couldn't believe the difference once Melissa was with me. I wasted a lot of energy fighting my body. She was calming and supported every decision I made. She reminded me that I was in control and helped me make the right decisions for me. I would absolutely hire her again. My best advice is to use your doula. She is there for you. Don't hesitate to ask questions, ask for help pr ask for support from her. She loves her job and she will be there for you. I also had her make my placenta pills and I LOVE them. They really helped me through that overly emotional first 6 weeks. I still have some for my rough days.
I utilized Melissa for the birth of my second child. I also had a doula for my first so I knew from the start that I wanted a doula. I knew I was going to need all of the help I could get since I was attempting a VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean), and had a fair amount of leftover fears and trauma from my first birth. Having Melissa there through the entire process was invaluable. She was a great listening ear when we were waiting for things to get started. She was also great at helping me to feel heard and validated (along with the medical team). Even though she had not worked with the hospital I was delivering at she instantly connected with the doctors and nurses making it so much easier on me. Even though my experience did end in another c-section, having Melissa there was still very worth it. She walked the halls with me while we were trying desperately to get things going for two days. When it came down to making the final decision to have a repeat section she was my shoulder to cry on and to release all of my fears to so that I could go into it with a clear mind. She was also there waiting for me in recovery so I wouldn’t be alone, and those are moments that I will never forget. She was there to calm me when I was coming out of the grogginess and felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest, and there to remind me that my baby girl would be in my arms in just a matter of minutes and it wasn’t going to be like the last time. She along with the staff made the experience one I am proud of. I do not feel like I failed this time, instead I feel like I gave it my all. She also doubled as my encapsulator and I was/am extremely happy with the pills and her professionalism with the encapsulation services.
Melissa was my doula for the birth of my first child. I don’t know what I would have done without her. Like most new moms I went to the hospital way to early. Melissa met me back at my house after I got discharged even though it was 3am. She kept me calm and helped me labor at home for the next 12 hours. If she hadn’t been there I probably would have made my husband drive me to the hospital a couple of more times. Once I was admitted Melissa kept trying to get me to sit on my birth ball, because she thought that might be more comfortable for me. She didn’t give up even though I was not willing to move. I wish I had listened to her sooner because it felt so much better once I got to the ball. The moral of the story is to listen to Melissa. She really knows what she is talking about! When I was pushing she was really good about getting my attention after the contractions and helping me calm down. I feel like having her there made the whole experience so much better for my husband and me. I did not tell at my husband to shut up, or not to touch me, or yell him like you see in the movies. Melissa was able to guide him on how to comfort and support me. With her there he didn’t have to “tell me” what to do, which could have caused problems. It is easier to listen to someone if you think they know what they are talking about. Also she was able to take photos after the birth and that was really great because we wouldn’t have had anyone else to capture those moments. Melissa was really great to work with and I hope I get to use her again soon!
