I chose Michelle as my doula based off of her knowledge in so many different areas (babywearing, cloth diapering, etc.). She was a great resource to have not only during the birth but before as well. She was always available to answer any questions and very positive. I appreciated her professionalism and sense of humor, too. Michelle was great at giving calm guidance during the birth. I would recommend Michelle to anyone!
Michelle Brady is an excellent doula and a dear friend. She is highly experienced in births and pays meticulous attention to various details, from fetal position to the mother's well being. I had a successful natural VBAC with my second baby thanks to Michelle's unwavering support. She is also my Hypno Birthing educator who empowered me during my pregnancy. For instance, she is mindful of the best birthing positions for different stages of birth, and provides techniques such as the hip squeeze and gentle breathing reminders at exactly the right moments. She also honored my wish for a water birth, and made me feel so safe and strong the entire birth. I had no doubt that I was in her good hands. She was also so kind that she stayed with me after the birth for a few more hours through stitching. Furthermore, Michelle is beyond supportive to my husband before, during, and after the birth, helping him to be comfortable with every step along the way. We are extremely lucky to have Michelle by my side, and we highly recommend her for any of her wonderful expertise from prenatal yoga to her doula work.
I met Michelle through my Prenatal yoga classes. She is an incredible yoga instructor. Her prenatal classes were very good - a great mix of workout and relaxation techniques that all come very handy during pregnancy. I learned a lot about relaxation and mindfulness through her classes - skills that I still rely on during my postpartum days.
My husband and I decided to acquire Michelle's services as a birth doula and looking back, we think that was one of the best decision we made during our parenthood journey. Michelle provided me with lots of advice and guidance in the last months of my pregnancy. She was available to answer my questions. And, I was so happy to see her every week at my yoga classes to touch base.
When my labor started, she provided me with lots of helpful tips and she was at the hospital within an hour of us contacting her after checking into the hospital.
Having her there while in labor was a tremendous relief for both me and my husband. Her extensive experience helped us ask the right questions in order to make decisions along the way. The trust that we felt we had in her was empowering and I'm forever grateful that we had Michelle to rely on during those difficult hours.
After the birth of our daughter, Michelle checked on us regularly, answered my questions and concerns, and spent a great deal of time with us to help us with challenges of parenthood in those early days.
She is tough, strong, and confident. I really like those qualities about her - it is easy to have a straight forward conversation with her when there are a lot of unknowns, especially during labor, and the postpartum days.
I feel very lucky to have met Michelle and to have been able to go through this life changing event with her by our side.
We partnered with Michelle, our Doula, for the birth of our first child and we couldn’t have chosen a better person to assist us with the birth. Michelle was always there to answer any questions we had prior to the birth - she was a key part of our team. As the due date approached, she began reaching out more frequently to see how the pregnancy was progressing and provided tips/exercises/breathing techniques, among others, to cope for the last few weeks. The night prior to the birth, when contractions became stronger and longer, Michelle was on call all night – always checking to get an update on the progress. At the hospital, Michelle’s experience was on display, ensuring that we were always comfortable and that our birth choices were respected by the midwife and nurses. She was direct when required and understanding when needed. Even when the midwife sought to proceed with an episiotomy, Michelle requested for us to get time to make a decision and supported our final decision. Even after the birth, she made herself available and checked with us to see how the post-partum process was going. While we know that choosing a Doula is a personality-match, we highly recommend Michelle for any couple that is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Doula with a trustworthy and understanding approach.
There are no words for how grateful we are to have had Michelle with us on our pregnancy and birth journey. We deeply valued her wisdom, unwaivering reassurance, even-handedness, reliability and responsiveness, and on-going support. Michelle was with us every step of the way, helping us understand the choices before us and providing on-going practical, logistical and emotional support before, during and after the birth of our son. She is knowledgeable and very well connected to experts and other resources in the area which we found incredibly useful. In essence, Michelle was everything we were looking for in a doula -- more than we even knew was possible. It was a gift and godsend to have had the opportunity to work with her. We can't recommend her highly enough.
Michelle opened our eyes to the wonderful world of prenatal yoga and doulas. I had not considered using a doula until I met Michelle and was instantaneously comfortable with her and was put at ease with the process of giving birth; I had been very anxious before. When I went into labor (10 days early despite the doctor’s prediction of being late), Michelle was out of town but jumped into action and had her back-up work with us until she planes, trains and automobiled it back DC to be there by my side for the big event. I was touched by the friendship and dedication she shared with me throughout my pregnancy, birthing and postnatal care. I expected her to bring her compassion, knowledge and expertise to the table and was over the moon to walk away with a friend. I respect and admire Michelle greatly for having so much love to give so many. Without her my experience would have been full of stress, panic and fear but with her it was the exact opposite. Her support was invaluable to us. My deepest thanks Michelle!!!
Michelle is AMAZING at what she does. I’m so lucky she was the doula for the birth of my daughter. I had been taking her Lil Omm prenatal yoga classes during my pregnancy and so I knew I would I love having her calming presence in the delivery room. But it was more than her melodic voice and helpful reminders to relax; she was physically and emotionally supportive too. I was literally leaning on her for a good chunk of the time (she is STRONG!), and she had ton of of tricks and tools to make me more comfortable. She showed the others in the delivery room how to apply pressure to my back and other techniques that allowed me to have the natural birth experience that I wanted. I felt like I could trust her to do exactly what I needed with every contraction, and she delivered—no pun intended. She helped me stay calm and helped me focus/breathe when the going got tough. Along with the midwife, Michelle stayed positive and enthusiastic through my labor, even when there was a turning point where interventions were discussed. She was encouraging during every phase, and it was so nice to hear everything I was experiencing (pain, shaking, etc.) was a normal part of birthing. Michelle was one of the last people to leave the room that night, making sure that baby latched on to mama and that mama had something to eat. I could not be more grateful for the positive experience I had and I owe a lot of that to Michelle!
My wife and I could not be more gratified with our decision to use Northern Virginia Birth Services, and are eternally indebted to our amazing doula Michelle Brady. For nearly 72 hours starting when my wife first entered Early Labor, Michelle was there for us every step of the way. Michelle came to our house multiple times to assess the labor, and accompanied us to the hospital three times when my wife wanted to see how far she was dilated. The first two times when the hospital told us that she was not dilated enough, Michelle kept my wife's spirits high, emphathized with her, and supported our decision to not induce labor by breaking her water. Throughout those tumultous days of contractions, Michelle spent nearly 14 hours taking care of my wife at home and then another 16 hours with us in the hospital. When her water finally broke, Michelle did an amazing job keeping my wife comfortable and relaxed, was great counsel on every decision, and filled every void that I could not fill and more. She persevered despite a lack of sleep and sacrificed the better part of 3 days that she could not be with her husband and three young children. My wife and I formed a rapid, special bond with her, despite the fact that she was not our designated doula and we had never met her until the day her labor began. She was our backup in case our designated doula had a conflict, and when the conflict arose, she stepped right in and performed miracoulsly. We have Michelle to thank for our son's safe arrival into this world and could not imagine such an intense, long labor without her. Eight weeks after birth, my wife still signs Michelle's praises every time she reflects back on her labor and delivery.
Michelle was an absolute shining star during the birth of our first child. In addition to being our doula, she was also our hypnobirthing mentor and it was a huge advantage to have our teacher there when it came time to use the technique. By all accounts Michelle is a natural doula; she's a caregiver with a reassuring touch and a trove of knowledge about pregnancy, birth, and babies. She has a million tricks beyond just the visualization and breathing techniques that she teaches. For our birth, she had electric candles so we could keep the lights low and aromatherapy compresses and a giant wrap for me to pull against during pushing. She was a Mary Poppins with a bag full of tools! And she's strong! I'm 5 ft 10 and she's 5 ft nothing and she was holding me up hour after hour. It was incredible. However, what really impressed us was not how well she performed during the conventional part of our birth story, but how she helped us when things became unpredictable. After 30+ hours of labor (she was there for it all), we had to abandon our natural birth plan. The baby was stuck and we'd decided to try forceps. Things got clinical and scary quickly. She stayed with us through it all and after. She was respectful of the medical team that came into the picture but remained steadfast in her support for our needs and wishes. She was a shoulder for my husband, she was a hand for me to squeeze, she was an absolute rock for the both of us. Without a single hesitation or reservation, we recommend Michelle as a doula. If we are lucky enough to have a second child, it would be an absolute blessing to have Michelle share in the birth again. Sarah and John Moyer
Michelle was THE most crucial asset to my labor team. She was with me all through my pregnancy, labor and postpartum period and I knew I could trust her and go to her with any questions or concerns and feel completely supported and would be met with unbiased, evidence-based information. She is a wealth of knowledge and an amazingly calming presence. She was hands down the best choice I made in picking a care provider!
