While the delivery and hospital stay with my first son was easy and safe, I was unhappy with the way several things happened. So, when I got pregnant with my second son I wanted to try to do things differently, specifically have a natural labor. I looked up information on births with little medical intervention, trying to prepare myself and had considered a Doula. At that time I found out that Lauren was a Doula. I got in touch with her and we met right away. At our first meeting we went over what I wanted out of this experience and she shared her experiences as well. I knew I wanted to move forward with having a Doula. So, the next week Lauren met with my husband and me and we went over our birth plan. Lauren provided us with additional information that I hadn't even considered. One thing she did that I really appreciated was send articles on information we had discussed. Her doing this made me feel like my husband and I were making informed decisions regarding our son's birth and his first hours of life instead of just doing the hospital's typical protocol. When I thought I was in labor and went to the hospital Lauren was with us. The doctor explained to me that I was 6cm and having contractions but was in a slow labor pattern and offered to break my water, having Lauren there was a big support in helping us decide to just wait. So we went home and 5 days later my water broke without medical intervention and I only ended up being in labor for about 1 1/2 hrs. Even with the fast labor Lauren made it to the hospital and was there to help coach the pushing phase. The next day Lauren visited us to see our baby boy and make sure we were all doing well. I was very happy with how my delivery and hospital stay went. I know Lauren played a huge role in it. She helped us have the experience we wanted and I would encourage anyone considering a Doula to meet with her.
