I am so thankful I hired Sherrie as my doula! I am a first time mom and had a water birth at home.
During and after my pregnancy, Sherrie was always available for emotional support so I felt very comfortable talking to her about what I was going through. Her commitment to being educated in her field is so obvious as she could clearly explain and address any issues or questions I had (and as a first time mom- I had a lot!)
During my labor she really shined though. I honesty thought to myself so many times during it "there's no way I could do this without her"
when labor was approaching she kept checking in with me so that she could be available whenever either one of us felt it necessary. When my contractions had started and then subsequently slowed back down a day later, Sherrie's hunch of the baby being on the wrong side turned out to be right. Through some positioning and moves she had us do, we were able to shift baby in the correct position to get labor going again! Sherrie was by my side the whole time watching me and paying close attention, timing my contractions so I didn't have to and she was always aware of what stage I was at. She was great at sensing when I needed to rest and lead and when I needed to be encouraged to walk or try a new position. I didn't practice any classes or breathing methods before labor, but Sherrie would guide me with breathing thru each contraction and it honestly helped a lot!
She was in constant communication with my midwife so that they both could determine what stage I was at and my needs. My midwife seriously loved her and trusted her judgement very strongly!
Postpartum, as she and I shared our own interpretation of my labor and it turned out that everything I was thinking and feeling- she was sensing. I so appreciate having a doula that has strong and accurate intuition, is genuinely caring, professional and very knowledgeable.
This time last year I was interviewing doulas. When my husband and I met Sherrie, she had a calming presence, a good background of training and experience, and a friendly, down-to-earth manner. We had just agreed to work together when, out of the blue, we got the news that every parent dreads. We had lost the baby. Even though it wasn't what Sherrie had signed up for, she didn't back down.
She was there for us every step of the way. She rearranged her schedule to be with us, more than a month ahead of our due date. She thought ahead to arrange resources we didn't know we needed. Sherrie's presence in the delivery room was as calming, knowledgeable and supportive as I had hoped. She provided relief for my husband and sister to take breaks throughout the 3-day hospital stay. She even came to our home for post-partum recovery needs. She emailed resources and encouragement in the weeks after our loss.
I am hopeful that I will find the courage to have another baby. And if I do, I hope Sherrie is available to be our doula again because I know I can count on her, no matter what.
Sherrie was recommended to me by a dear friend who can't stop singing her praises. She told me that Sherrie was incredibly kind, professional, and great with pain management. I was sold before I even met her!
We met for a consultation and she was all of those things and more. Very knowledgable, good vibe, and a great communicator. My midwife didn't think I needed doula since this was my second home birth. But I chose to have a doula anyway mostly to help advocate for me in the rare case that I'd need to transfer to a hospital. I also wanted a doula for my husbands' sake.
Sherrie met with me twice in my home before my birth to talk. She is a calming presence and allowed me to vent all I needed to. she suggested I write down all of my anxieties about childbirth and parenting so we could analyze them and come up with action plans for each one. She also suggested I write out my ideal labor and meditate/pray upon it/have my husband read it out loud. That was super helpful for both of us. Amazingly, my labor turned out pretty much the way I visualized it (excpet it moved so quickly I didn't have time to fill the tub.)
it only lasted 1.5 hours, and Sherrie rushed to us as soon as she could but was only there for the last 15-20 minutes. Sherrie helped me realize that in labor, I need to have personal space to just zone out. That is how I cope. Sherrie was respectful of that and gave me my space. Before we knew it, baby was out! In all honesty, because of the speed and ease of my labor, I probably could have done it without a doula. HOwever, I don't regret hiring a doula at all. Just knowing Sherrie would be there and had my back took away so much anxiety leading up to the birth. That is priceless. Her aftercare was excellent as well. I highly recommend her!
Sherrie Williams was exactly what I needed for my prenatal preparation, labor and delivery. She brought an ease and peace to a very stressful event. During labor, she was patient and explained the certain medical interventions that were offered to me and more importantly empowered me to make decisions. When I was lost in pain of contractions, her voice tethered me and I was able to focus and surrender to the experience, getting through the waves discomfort. While I was recovering, she was available night and day for my texts on postpartum healing and breastfeeding, offering invaluable resources and suggestions. My husband and I couldn't have done it without her. I strongly recommend her serrvies.
I feel so extremely thankful to have been referred to Sherrie as doula for my 2nd birth! Having gone through my 1st labor with another doula, who we also loved…I had a little something to compare to. With Sherrie I just felt she was different & amazing in so many ways.
From the moment she came in our home she met me in the hallway as I was screaming through a contraction, she immediately put her hand on my shoulder and told me to relax and breathe. Something about her aura and presence immediately calmed me. Every time a contraction would take over, she was there to talk me down, keep me focused, and calmed. I realized how essential she was to me when I was briefly separated from her on quick car ride over to hospital and when I was getting checked into labor & delivery. I wanted her calming presence…not the nurses rushing about making me feel flustered. Sherrie was my zen, and I love her and am grateful to her for that!!! I remember when my 1st doula told me she was going to be in nursing school full-time and wouldn’t be available for our birth, I thought “oh I don’t think I need a doula again this time around, I can do without” I am SO SO glad my friend talked me out of it and told me about sherrie!! Because yes I obviously could have done it, but I truly believe that she was essential in my having the birth that I wanted for my son. Speaking of birth story, she wrote the sweetest letter to my son of his birth story & even caught some pictures for us that will always be cherished.
