Rachel was our doula for our 1st child. She immediately is “on call” for all your questions from pregnancy to baby, R is worth hiring just for her expansive knowledge base and reassuring answers. Even as a busy doula and mother, she is there for you. She is active in mom’s groups and LLL so she can introduce you to a support system if desired. R meets with you before your due date to discuss goals and desires of labor. She never pushes any ideas on you but rather discusses options and makes sure your birth plan is what YOU want it to be and can support you with home/hospital/birthing center births, vaginal with or without epidurals, c-sections. Once my labor started, R was in contact with me and available. Once my labor was really progressing, she arrived at my house and I was able to labor for a few more hours at home with Rachel’s suggestions for pain management before heading to hospital. Once there, I don’t remember R leaving my side for another 12 hours of labor. She was also supportive of husband including making sure his needs were met as well as assisting him to assist me. My goal was to have a vaginal birth without an epidural. R was able to help me walk the hallways, get in/out of the tub, and try various positions for pain management and because of that I was able to have my desired birth. She was supportive both mentally and physically including Rebozo use, massage, helping me eat/drink, as well as bringing essential oils, battery operated candles, and calming music. R was able to snap some pictures for me right when my daughter was born. She was a calming presence during some post-birth complications then immediately helped me to begin breastfeeding. I highly recommend Rachel and will definitely use her again if we are blessed with another baby. When we were raving to one of our midwives about doula care, she made sure to state that all doulas are not created equal and that we were fortunate to have the best!
Throughout my pregnancy, Rachel was able to answer every question I had about issues that would arise (or point me in the direction of the best answer), give me advice as I needed, calm me down when I freaked out about things I didn't need to freak out about, and best of all, made me laugh constantly. I didn't know what to expect when I signed on for doula services, but I soon found out I was getting constant support, education, and a friend to share my experience with, laugh with, and ask the questions you're too scared to ask others about. Rachel has a way of being informative, professional, and relaxing all in the same breath. In a situation that breeds anxiety and terror--especially for new moms--she was able to calm me down, assure me that all would be ok, and leave me feeling confindent and excited about my upcoming birth.
During birth, Rachel provided an arsenal of techniques to move me from one stage to the next. Rachel was fully there to support me and knew all my preferences. She said all that I needed her to say, helped me through my painful contractions, rubbed my back when I needed, and even hit her head on the toilet when I was sitting backwards on it trying to pee through an intense contraction--no joke. Without Rachel, I don't think the birth experience I had would have been as positive as was. Things did not go as I intended but because I had been meeting with Rachel throughtout the pregnancy and then had her by my side in labor, I was able to make the best decisions for me and my baby during this important time and we had the best experience we could have had under all the circumstances that came our way.
I'm beyond thrilled I hired Rachel and would one-thousand percent hire her again!
Rachel was an enormous help during labor and delivery. I had a hospital birth at RMH and it went great! Rachel and I walked up and down the halls for hours, she helped get the tub ready when I wanted to get in the water, and had great suggestions for positions or strategies to get things moving. She was chatty when I needed distraction and quiet when I needed rest. It was perfect. Plus it meant that my partner was able to get some sleep so that he was alert when it came time to push. He held my hand - which was nice and all, but it was Rachel who told me when to push, tecniques for more efficient pushing, and motivated me when I was running out of steam. I'm so glad I had her there with me!
We love Rachel! from the very beginning we really felt like she respected us and what we wanted for our birth. We met several times before the birth and she even brought me donuts the week before our baby was born when I told her on a whim that I wanted them. I felt super comfortable with her there, and even though our birth wasn't exactly what we planned it to be, having her there helped ensure it was still an experience that we look back on and feel like we made good, empowered decisions. She paced the halls with us, laughed and cried with us, and was the best possible person other than my husband to be in the room as our baby was born. She's super knowledgeable and caring and goes above and beyond in every possible way. We would want her at the birth of any future babies and recommend her to any momma looking for a doula, without a single hesitation.
Rachel was an essential element in our successful labor and delivery! She helped us prepare for labor through conversation, asking and answering key questions about our expectations and helping us to understand all of our options. When my labor went a little sideways, she was there helping me to breathe and relax and vocalize; her efforts are expert, subtle, effective and supportive of mom and the whole family birth team. My mother and husband were so relieved to have Rachel with us during the long and challenging process. She has such skill and such a calming presence, while always helping you and your team to advocate for yourselves.
As my mother put it when we had my beautiful daughter in our arms, "Everyone should have a Rachel!" And so they should. She is a joyful, expert doula who can make your birth experience smoother by empowering you and lending all the right support at precisely the right time. We love her dearly!
Rachel is amazing. That needs to be said right away. My husband and I agree that our birth experience would have been very different without her. We would not have known different ways to cope with the very long labor we had. I would have gotten pain medication much earlier, limiting my ability to be up and in motion, which was neccesary for labor progression. Rachel provided both emotional and physical support. She used essential oils, back massage, and candles to help me relax during contractions. Emotionally, she was the difference in my giving up and being able to continue. We love Rachel and her passion for birth and supporting women are extremely evident. She is so knowledgable and is able to provide support to both mothers and fathers.
Rachel was absolutely amazing the day I went into labor. She not only was one of my main support people that day but she also reassured my husband and helped him stay calm. She came straight to the birth center as soon as I told her I was there and she talked me through every single contraction!!! She not only stayed at the birth center for hours but she also came with me to the hospital once we realized it was necessary, she stayed at the hospital until my daughter was in my arms and she made sure that I was comfortable with breast feeding. Rachel was our rock that day and I couldn't have done it without her!!!!
