I never thought that I would be having a natural birth experience. I didn't think I had the willpower to actually go through with it until I met Jessica. She was my prenatal yoga instructor who provided such great information that helped me to learn and understand natural birth and how important it was to advocate for myself within the modern healthcare system. She gave me many tools to get through labor in her group and private yoga sessions and she provided wonderful instruction to my husband and I on how to be great birth partners. On the day of my daughter's birth, she was able to step in when my husband needed a break and she was able to provide suggestions on different positions to try to ease the pain. She kept me calm as the transition phase began to kick in. In the end, I required an epidural due to my blood pressure skyrocketing, but I was fully dilated by that point so I consider that a success. I believe that had Jessica not been there that the cycle of interventions would have taken over and I may have wound up having a c-section as the hospital I was in had an extremely high rate. She was able to help me make decisions and push forward with my plan to go natural providing research-based evidence for my decisions. She helped arm me with information to take to my practitioners throughout my pregnancy so that I could have the outcome that I wanted and we achieved an absolutely beautiful birth. We were laughing and smiling through the pushing stage as my husband and I brought our precious girl into the world. Postpartum, Jessica has kept in touch and provided insight to help with breastfeeding, self-care, and baby care in those early days. Thank you, Jessica, for your help during the birth, but most of all for helping foster the change in me to be confident in myself and my decisions. This experience changed me for the better and helped make me a better wife and mother. My only regret is not hiring her sooner.
I met Jessica through her prenatal yoga classes. Her compassionate nature, knowledge of the birth process, and ability to integrate different postures and poses to prepare for and ease labor became evident through her classes. After having a couple of one-on-one sessions, I felt even more prepared for the birth process---both physically and psychologically. It was a great comfort to have Jessica on our birth team. She provided great emotional support. She also helped me get through contractions and a long phase of pushing with stretching, positioning, massage, aromatherapy, and guided breathing. Jessica is devoted to helping mother's have a healthy and rewarding pregnancy, birth, and "fourth" trimester. I highly recommend her!
I really wanted a natural birth and thought a doula could help. We didn't end up with natural because my daughter's heart rate was erratic, but I was still very thankful to have Jessica
Jessica teaches prenatal yoga and I did that with her about once a week for the last few months of pregnancy. In addition to stretching and strengthening- this was really helpful Mentally. You have pre-birth meetings with a doula to get to know you but Jessica got to know me better. My baby turned breech at 37 weeks and we were doing all sorts of crazy stuff trying to get her to flip. At that point Jessica brought up to me the need to be ok with having a C-section if that's what it came to (because of getting to know me better- she knew how controlling I am) I don't think I would have really gone through the mental process beforehand to make decisions as easily during labor had Jessica not pushed me to think about this before. She discussed decision making with my husband and I beforehand and things to think about
When I was throwing up during labor Jessica had a little fan blowing peppermint towards my face it made me feel so much better. It was helpful to have another person to rub your back when you're leaning on your husband during contractions. She had a whole bag of stuff and I only got to use a little
Jessica came to visit a few days later. We all have families- but it's nice to have someone outside check in on yoU. I told my husband that if he suspected at all that I had post-partum depression he should contact Jessica for some advice instead of bringing it up with family who would only worry- Jessica actually has a good network
Overall-I wanted as much information As possible. I knew what I was getting into when I went to the hospital and I was more capable of dealing with things as we were presented challenges because if Jessica. I felt like I had the most possible control at all times and knew what questions to ask
Jessica's services are all about empowerment. She supports women so that they can have meaningful and healthy births.
She was a key member of my birth team. I began taking prenatal yoga from her in my second trimester and was so excited when I learned that she is also a doula. Jessica worked with me and my husband to create a birth plan and practiced strategies for how to work together to get through contractions. Her support helped give me the confidence I needed to have an unmedicated birth (which was my goal). Since this was our first birth, my husband and I had no idea what to expect and were so grateful to have someone with experience by our side to walk us through the stages and calm us down when the adrenaline started pumping. Sometimes you just need someone to turn off the lights and create a serene atmosphere.
Leading up to the birth, my husband wasn't entirely sure we needed a doula, but knew it was something that was important to me. Afterwards, he became the biggest advocate for using a doula. Jessica gave us the space to work together as a couple, but she also gave my husband the support he needed to be fully present in the labor and birth.
Our connection with Jessica continued in those delicate weeks postnatal too. She checked in on me and the baby and gave me an opportunity to talk through the birthing experience - what went well, what was unexpected, what were the difficulties.
I continued to practice yoga with her as my body healed. And it was great to have someone who could hold my baby while I got some much-needed stretching and strengthening in.
I had an amazing birth experience thanks to Jessica. I actually only met her a few days before my due date because she was a backup to the doula I had been working with, who ended up having a conflict the week I needed her. I was a little nervous about using someone I didn't know but as soon as I met Jessica, I was comforted immediately. She had such a calming presence and a lot of good insight. I only knew her for three days before I ended up delivering (one week late) and she was in constant communication and provided many helpful tips. Plus my doctor said that my cervix was a little off to the side and might be why I was late so she recommended a chiropractor, who fit me in the day before I went into labor. I was SO glad we decided to have her there that day. I ended up having very painful back labor and questioned whether I could go thru with doing it naturally, but she encouraged me to try different positions and assured me I could do it. Jessica, my husband and the nurse couldn't have been more supportive and I certainly couldn't have done it without all of them. Just having Jessica there to remind me to stay hydrated was huge because even though I'm usually really good at that, time has a way of passing fast and I was so focused on the pain and the breaks from it that I'm not sure I would have remembered half the time. It was also so nice to have someone to process the whole experience with after it was over. I had a very positive birth experience and I can't recommend Jessica enough!
