Post a testimonial for Chelsea Shira

Chelsea was knowledgable, calming, and very accessable. I stayed in contact with her during my labor, and I asked her come when I felt ready. Chelsea was able to listen to me over the phone and determine that I needed to go to the hospital immediately! Without her guidance, my baby would have been born at home or in the car! Chelsea was the perfect person to help me through labor and delivery.

Chelsea is amazing. Because of medical reasons I had to have a c-section. I told her that I did not believe I would be needing her services. She still stayed, and I am so glad she did. She waited with my husband so she was there to help put my after birth plans into action as possible until I woke up from surgery. I thought I was hiring someone to help with the labor process, but she is so much more than that and now she is a friend.

i acheived a completely natural birth of my third child due in large part to the help of Doula Chelsea Shira. She was by my side every step of the way, working with my husband to coach and comfort me during labor. Her encouragement and calm, attentive demeanor helped me make it through the toughest part of contractions without needing pain medications or intervention. I would not have succeeded in achieving my desired natural childbirth experience without her help.

Having Chelsea there as my doula was one the the best decisions I made. She is very easy going and calm, and helped talk me through transition when I didn't think I could make it without an epidural. I am so grateful for her always being there when I had questions during the last few weeks of pregnancy and after birth. She also encapsulated my placenta, which for me was amazing. I highly recommend her to anybody looking for a doula.

For my second childbirth experience, Chelsea encouraged me to pursue an unmedicated and minimal intervention birth, which I thought wouldn't be possible because my first delivery wound up being a C-section. However, due to her encouragement I discovered that there was one doctor among the group who was willing to support a trial of labor. She also gave me the support (along with my husband! :p) necessary for me to resist efforts to have my labor induced artficially after I passed 39 and then 40 weeks. When I started having contractions on Thurs with no progress for days, she gave me exercises and stretches to help things along, and emotional support so that I could stay calm and mostly cheerful. My water broke Sat morning around 0230 and she came straight to the hospital once I was admitted, even though she offered to come wait at home with me instead if I needed it. Chelsea had also helped me to develop a specific and thorough (and polite) birth plan, which my labor and delivery nurse was able to accomodate in all but one respect! I actually spent most of my labor in a warm shower, which was very comforting. Without her help and guidance, my son would not have been born naturally! Instead, because Chelsea was there to give me focus and coaching and support and advice and alternative suggestions, and because she was willing to work with my L&D team and my husband (and sometimes around and between them when necessary, haha) my son Luke was born at 1116 on 11/16/13 at 11lbs, 22 3/4in, with a 14in head and 15in shoulders! And it was an all-natural VBAC delivery! Chelsea made a huge difference in my second birth experience, and I really wish she had been with me for my daughter's gestation and birth, too.
