Before I found Heather I was an emotional wreck and well into my first trimester of pregnancy. Besides being nervous about labor and terrified of being a parent I kept reading about all the negative outcomes associated with hospital births and the archaic policies enacted by most hospitals. From the very first minutes of meeting Heather, I felt comforted and supported. What is even more remarkable is how comfortable my husband felt with her from the start.
As soon as I signed her contract I felt such amazing relief. I really paid attention to that feeling because it let me know I could trust her. Throughout my pregnancy she kept in touch on a regular basis and we attended her LaMaz classes. Heather took the "mystery" out of giving birth and gave so many helpful tools both for pregnancy and labor. She helped me know what questions to ask and how to create a birth plan both hopeful and flexible. By the time labor arrived, I was confident in my ability to give birth, in her skills during birth and in the partnership with my husband.
During birth Heather knew exactly how to help keep me calm and focused. She suggested tools and positions but never pushed for one specific way. When I was confused by what the medical personnel were saying, she helped break it down for me. She was both coach and encourager. She brought her presence of warmth, humor and belief in me to the room.
I am incredibly grateful to Heather. My pregnancy and birth were healthier, happier and more calm than it ever would have been without her and I received so much more than I ever imagined. Heather is warm, welcoming, compassionate, supportive and kind. She never judged any of my feelings or decisions and only ever responded to me with genuine depth of caring. Please hire Heather because you will be meeting a truly remarkable woman. I am sure you will not regret your choice.
Heather was such a blessing to my husband and I both in the months leading up to the birth of our son and during our labor. She provided us with quality child birth training through videos, books and meeting with her to discuss our questions and concerns. Any time I had questions Heather provided me with resources on both sides of any issue so that I could make an informed decision. When we created our birth plan Heather was completely supportive of everything we wanted and she respected our wishes without trying to influence our decision. We met with Heather frequently throughout the pregnancy to discuss preparing for labor and to address my concerns - since I was a first time mom I had a lot of questions and worries which Heather helped me with. Not only did we get quality information, we also gained a friend who we still connect with, even after the birth. During labor Heather was amazing - I had a 25 hour natural labor in which Heather coached me through multiple labor positions to help through contractions and various techniques to help manage the pain. Without her support we probably wouldn't have been able to have the natural birth that we had planned. Heathers support, care and commitment were invaluable to us throughout the entire pregnancy, labor and delivery. We will certainly retain her services again for any future children we may have.
Heather taught our family what a doula was. She helped us prepare for the birth and after care. She was amazing, always so calm and soothing. She knew just what to do when I needed it. Heather also gave us a lot of education; she helped with our first and second daughter's births. The first birth was in a hospital and she was so supportive, she advocated for us and kept me focused, we were able to have a natural childbirth as we desired thanks to her caring assistance. Our second daughter was born at home with a midwife and Heather was involved all through the pregnancy. She even made a belly cast for us! I never would have been able to get through those births without her professional and compassional care from start to finish. She was not afraid to share her own experiences too which put us ease and taught us so much! She is an inspiration, always seeking out ways to offer more and improve her skills too. She an amazing doula and an amazing woman!
Heather was a blessing to have as our doula during the birth of our first child in March 2011. Having Heather as our doula was one of the best decisions I had made and my husband would also agree. At first my husband was a bit skeptical of having a doula, but he soon realized how much help she was for both him and I. Heather was full of information for both my husband and I. She offered assistance with prenatal visits, creating a birthplan with our very specific wants and needs, talked to me some times for over an hour on the phone or in person about my fears and questions regarding the birth, offered a wonderful library of books and DVDs to become better informed about my birth choices, the list goes on. She was supportive of all of our decisions regarding our birth plan and was always there to answer any questions we had. During the labor and delivery Heather was AMAZING! She knew what to do, what to say, and how to help at the right time. I could not have pictured my pregnancy, labor, and delivery any differently. We are a military family, which had my mom across the country from us and my husbands family 8+ hours away. Heather was the love and support we needed during the journey of bringing our little girl into the world. Heather, thank you for the love, support, and wisdom that brought out the mom in me. I will never give birth without Heather!
