Jacquie was everything I could have hoped for and more. She was a constant source of support through my pregnancy and knowing that she would be there to assist me made me much more confident about my birth. Always calm, always reassuring, she guided me through my labour in a way that made me feel safe and powerful. She helped me have the focus and security to have my baby at home. I would recommend her wholeheartedly. She's brought a lot of babies into this world as a doula and has a crazy amount of knowledge to impart about becoming a mother.

Jacquie is the best in the business in Vancouver, hands down. She has a wealth of experience in L&Ds here and is an endless source of knowledge for pre natal care, L&D, breast feeding singletons and twins, and infant/baby development. Jacquie truly loves what she does and it shows in the way she cares for her clients and their families. She is always available for questions, concerns, information and has a website loaded with resources and information that I perused all the time during my thrid trimester.

Suddenly at 32 weeks I became anxious thinking forward to L&D of my twins and called Jacquie. Of course she already had a very full roster but assured me that if not her, her daughter could be my doula. Wouldn't you know it, Jacquie's daughter has twins and she immediately calmed me explaining twin L&Ds aren't that different from singletons. (ask about her daughter's birth story, it is incredibly inspiring!)

At 38 weeks I was induced in the afternoon and started labour at home. I called Jacquie who explained the scenarios of how things may or may not progress. My water broke in the evening and the contractions became so strong that my husband had to call Jacquie. She promptly arrived and helped me mobilize to the hospital while assuring my husband there was no need to speed. Jacquie helped me into the ward, and my husband appeared after parking the car and asked her when the babies were coming. jacquie replied "now!".

They were both at my bedside supporting me while the team had a tricky time getting the IV in and then the epidural. Two healthy boys were born just before midnight and over the next few days and week Jacquie's follow up visits were a huge help for breast feeding information, support and encouragement to get my milk in and nurse as much as possible. Of course Jacquie is super knowledgeabout about nursing twins because her daughter did the same!

Jacquie Munro was our doula for the delivery of my daughter. It was my first baby so I had many questions and many anxieties about the upcoming birth. My husband and I thought hiring a doula would be helpful especially because I was hoping for a natural drug free birth.  As soon as I spoke to jacquie I knew she would make labour such an easier and more joyful experience. Jacquie has a calming energy and loving kindness about her. You feel like you have known jacquie for years upon first visit. I instantly felt comfortable enough with her to share every fear, anxiety and hopes about my upcoming labour. During the labour jacquie was amazing. She was so relaxed and patient. She knew what I needed when I needed it, and validated what I was feeling in that moment. I felt like she was on the journey with me - every step of the way. When I didn't think I could push through a contraction jacquie encouraged me and believed that I could. I ended up delivering a healthy baby girl after 6 hours of active labour, drug free at our home. It was honestly the best experience of my life. I had the labour i always wanted. Whenever I feel like it was dream I look back at the photos jacquie captured right after the birth.

I  will definitely be hiring jacquie for my next baby! She is truly wonderful and worth every penny.

We had Jacquie as our doula at both our births and I don't konw how we would have done both without her. With our first, I had to have a c-section as my son was in breech position and Jacquie was there to support us in the uncertainty of waiting for this at the hospital (I went into early labour and it wasn't our schedualed date). She was so helpful to help me in starting breast feeding in the recovery room, in supporting my husband better support me in the post partum period and she was available to support me several months after delievery if I had questions or worries etc by email or on the phone. She is non-judgmental, unobstrusive, gentle and has a way that you just feel so safe in her support. Thanks to her support (and my midwives!) I was able to have a successful VBAC this year with my second son. I valued her many years of experience, being at the birth of 1000 babies at that time. She just intuitivley knew what I needed. As soon as we got the delivery room at the hospital she set the room up in a way that made me so comfortable given I couldn't go to the nice rooms "upstairs" as I was trying for a VBAC. She worked behind the scenes to make sure my needs were being met and I never had to ask. Most of all Jacquie helped me to prenatally find a way to not get stuck to a "plan" and to be open for how my birth would unfold and to take it "slow." With our first baby my husband probably called her a dozen times post natally to get support on how to support me with all the new and intense new mother feelings....she probably helped save our marrage during this intense transition into parenthood for both of us. I think any woman who finds Jacquie to be her doula is so lucky to have such a wise woman beside her during birth. AND she takes the most amazing birth notes, and this time also photos of the experience to help document one of the most empowering experiences I was able to have in giving birth vaginally to my second son. I just love Jacquie!

I decided to have a Doula mainly because I knew my husband would need a little direction and support in order to provide me with the support I needed during labour. If I were to simplify the description of a Doula, I would say it's like having a wedding planner for your birth. Someone who keeps you calm, ensures you have everything you needand makes sure you don't get bothered by any problems that may be occuring.

In addition to all those things, Jacquie's calming and confident presence provides so much more. Jacquie takes the time to get to know you and to understand your "ideal" birth plan. Her extensive experience and knowledge of pregnancy, labour and post natal topics, provides you with the opportunity to feel confident, safe and secure.

Although many Doulas may be percieved as having biases towards natural labours, one thing that stood out with Jacquie was her non judgemental attitude. I found it comforting to know that she herself had experience two very different labours, one with an epideral and one without. Because of this, I never felt pressured to stick to my (natural) birth plan, however, I recieved the support I needed to make it through.

There are so many unknowns before and after labour that cause a lot of unnessecary anxiety and support from a knowledgable person before and after birth is just as important. I feel that Jacquie is part of the reason I was able to continue breastfeeding for as long as I have.

I had such a wonderful experience with my labour that I  actually considered becoming a Doula myslef. Whether it's for yourslef, your partner, or to avoid dealing with the hospital staff yourself it's well worth it. I can't imagine how my labour would have been without her.

I wouldn't dare to deliver another baby without her.

Thank you Jacquie for helping to make my labour one of the most memorable days of my life. It makes me smile every time I think about it.

Jacquie was amazing throughout my 14 plus hour labour and homebirth, and leading up to it. It was not just her consistency, and her practical help but her wealth of experience and knowledge and positive energy that helped me in the months leading up to the birth and through the most difficult parts of the labout.

While my midwife, who was also fantastic, was in and out, Jacquie was always there, supporting myself and my partner. My husband says he honestly does not know what he would have done if Jacquie was not present.  She knew all the tricks of the trade and helped me through exercises and different labour positions to turn my baby which was facing posterior (back to back), likely saving me much medical intervention. Going out of her way to drive me to the hospital when my baby needed to be transfered there and keeping my spirits high. And then her post-natal advice, always willing to chat on the phone, provide me different perspectives, and affirm my natural-mothering instincts, has been a life-saver. What supportive energy, never telling me what to do but helping me to make my own decisions. Thank you Jacquie!

When Jacquie speaks, I just feel calm.  Jacquie brings with her a wealth of experience in pregnancy, labour, and post natal care for mom and baby.  My husband and I were so happy to have Jacquie on our team throughout our entire experience.  She is caring, kind, and was always respectful of the choices we made (in advance and in the moment) about our birthing plan.  Her assistance was especially valuable during labour (she knows all the nurses and doctors) and after our son was born, when she was an amazing resource on breastfeeding and all those parent worries.  Jacquie not only attended the birth, but was available day and night by email, phone and text.  She still checks up on us 9 months later.  We highly recommend Jacquie.

I can't say enough positive things about Jacquie. It is my view that she was essential to the success of my VBAC, and had she been with me for my first birth I believe I would have felt much differently about the outcome.

As a health scientist, I appreciated her evidence-based approach and her knowledge of best practices from the research literature, alongside a holistic and "slow birth" approach. As an anxious pregnant woman, her unwavering support was reassuring. Every time I started to get nervous about how my second birth might turn out, all I had to do was think "I have Jacquie with me this time" - and I felt instantly better. During out prenatal visits we talked through every possible scenario and Jacquie was incredibly supportive and helpful in regards to my fears - and my hopes for this second birth. During labour she seemed to anticipate what I needed before I asked for it, a skill that no doubt comes from having been present at hundreds of births. It was like she was inside my head! She was so great that I literally told my partner to stand aside, that I just needed Jacquie (he understood and happily obliged, standing close by). Following the birth it was also a comfort to know she was there if I needed her, and I really appreciated her follow-up calls, texts and visits.

If you are planning a VBAC - or any birth, really -  you must hire Jacquie.

Jacquie is an incredible woman. Her strength, knowledge, compassion, empathy, understanding, calm, wisdom and experience carried me through my nine months of pregnancy - I had a particularly rough one, emotionally, as at the time I was on my own. Jacquie was never judgemental, always empathetic to the diversity and complexity of humans. She always, always had words that were so wise and thoughtful, words which would would allow me to feel supported and just a little bit stronger. I called her many times in tears, unsure if I could do it, overwhelmed by the uncertainty of my situation and the unknown world of pregnancy and childbirth.

The day of my son's birth arrived and Jacquie led me through every contraction, movement, sound, emotion, sensation. It was her words that calmed me and allowed me to realize that my body was just doing its thing. "Feels crazy but it's safe." She would tell me I was safe, that my body was doing what it was meant to be doing, that even though it felt like I was trying to pass a bowling ball out of my vagina that this feeling, this immense and unbelievable physical pressure, was normal. I felt no fear - I closed my eyes, gave in to these unknown sensations and knew I was in a safe place. Just had to move through. I must have crushed Jacquie's hand about 50 times through the labour.

After it was all over Jacquie told me she knew from the moment she met me that my birth would be as it was: powerful, strong, no complications. I apparently birthed like a champ. I needed to feel that - I needed that insane strength, to feel that power of being a woman warrior, to overcome my emotional and personal sadness and to embrace labour and birth. I thank Jacquie for this. Jacquie will forever remain a huge part of my memory of my pregnancy and birth experience! She was also so helpful in postpartum -nursing issues and ongoing personal issues - and I truly felt cared for by her.

I can't recommend Jacquie enough!

Jacquie Monro is an experienced Doula, birth educated and counselor. Being able to call her before the birth with questions was very comforting, she even called me while on vacation in paris to make sure i was doing well and her amazing support through my difficult labor and birth was what enabled me to have a natural birth. Throughout the 33 hrs she was right beside us, we tried sending her home at one point and called her back 10 minutes later (I don't think she made it home) saying we needed to come back. After trying for a homebirth and having to go to the hospital, she is an amazingly supportive women that we could not have done with out and feel more confident knowing that if we have any parenting questions she's still just a text away. I highly recommend Jacquie to everyone I meet, she is apart of our family.

I can't even imagine how I it would have been without Jacquie.  I am sure my experience would have turned out drastically different.  We had a wonderful home birth.  I was able to fully rely on Jacquie to 'manage' all my fears and anxieties.  My job was simply to concentrate on the baby and enjoy the process.  She held my hand, told me what was coming and guided me through each stage with ease.  If we have another baby, I would love for Jacquie to be there again.
