Tonya is an amazing doula and breastfeeding advocate. She was there to answer all of my questions and support me before, during, and after I gave birth. She gave suggestions that assisted this breastfeeding novice and was a constant voice of reason thorughout the entire process. I highly recommend Tonya's doula services...you will not be disappointed.
Asking Tonya to be my doula was the best childbirth decision we made! From my first telephone conversation with her, through the delivery, and into my post-partum period, she put me at ease with her grace and encouragement.
This was my first child and I had tons of questions about the entire childbirth process. Tonya answered every one of them and sent me extra information that I could read for additional peace of mind. I appreciated her patience! She took the time to get to know me, my husband, and our hopes for childbirth. Caring and professional are two words that I would use to describe her during the weeks leading up to our due date. It was just the right balance of what I needed!
As the day drew near, Tonya checked in and answered questions about what to expect during labor. She was available by phone, email, and text which was helpful for communication. She also took time to connect with my husband in advance so that they could partner together in the delivery room.
My delivery turned out to be an unusually long one, and Tonya went above and beyond to care for me during this time. She helped me relax, offered suggestions to help move my labor along, and she interpreted the doctors' information into plain language that we could understand. She was the perfect listening ear when we needed one. In hindsight, I'm not sure what we would have done without her!
In addition, Tonya's post-partum visit put my mind at ease. Her encouraging words about newborn care were so helpful!
Finally, I also asked Tonya for lactation consulting services, and again she was the perfect fit. She taught me many basics, helped me troubleshoot a problem, and shared resources to answer my many questions. And she followed up to make sure things were going well!
I would HIGHLY recommend Tonya as both a doula and lactation consultant! I can't say enough good things about our experience with her!
Tonya Daniel was instrumental in both my delivery and successful breastfeeding experience. Tonya provided a calm as well as time and the necessary attention during my first child. I was in the early stages of labor and Tonya came to the hospital and walked with me until my labor progressed to the intense labor. She provided exercises to work through the pain as I opted for no meds. When one exercise was not easing my pain she reached into her bag and provided another. Even at the height of my pain (9 cm), Tonya was consistent and firm allowing me to work through the pain and deliver successfully with no drug assistance.
In addition, I was insistent on breastfeeding my daughter. Unfortunately my milk did not come in for 5 days and I had 1 feeding where the Dr. insisted I use formula due to infant weigh loss. Fortunately, Tonya was there to say that one feeding would not harm my goals or cause nipple confusion. Once my milk came in, I was a regular Bessie the cow and able to nurse my child 13 months with a 2 month frozen supply. Tonya worked me through the initial pain of bleeding, soreness and being engorged. Once we figured out that my cadence needed to be every two hours of feeding and pumping, I was a natural and able to produce enough milk to assist another mother who was unable to provide breastmilk to their infants due to medication.
Tonya was a calm in the storm, an educator, a shoulder to cry on but strong enough to not allow me to wallow or give up. I thank her and my 3 year old daughter (who is the size of a 5 year old) thanks her too!
Tonya Daniel is a very COMPASSIONATE person! I had my first child in May of 2012 via a c-section. I really wanted to breastfeed my son because of all of the health benefits. My son had a very hard time latching, which made it very difficult and frustrating! I was assigned a Dula in the hospital but her and I just did not click, which made the process that more frustrating!
I have known Tonya for several years and she was more than willing to assist me in whatever capacity I needed her in. She came to my house to assess the way I was attempting the feedings and offered suggestions. She gave me her personal and professional opinions regarding how to proceed, but she NEVER forced anything on me. She even coordinated with her resources to obtain a stronger pump to see if it would be more effective for me. After several weeks of trying to pump and not getting much more than a couple of ounces of milk each time, I came to the conclusion that this was just not working for me. Tonya completely understood and supported my decision!
I started using Tonya's services back in 2011 when I was pregnant with my first child. If I ever had a question about what the doctors said or just odds and ends things that were occuring throughout my pregnancy, I could always text or call her and she was always there regardless of time.
My water broke at 7:00pm on Friday June 2 and I called her in a panic. After calling my doctor, they had me come to the hospital to assure that it was indeed my water. Once the determination was made and my contractions began it was near 11pm. My mom called Tonya and she arrived at the hospital within an hour and stayed by my side the whole time (27.5 hours), never taking a break! Once I started active labor she walked with me around the halls and even had different positions or techniques to try to ease the contractions. Once it became time to push, she also had different positions to try that were a tremendous help. As I pushed for nearly 2 hours Tonya and my mother were my biggest cheerleaders. I have always very intolerant to pain, (a paper cut would have me in tears :)) but with Tonya's help I was able to birth my son with NO pain medications whatsoever! She was so amazing, she always knew what was about to happen before it happened and was able to assist me in so many ways!
I also, enlisted Tonya's help with breastfeeding. Though the hospital had a lactation department, Tonya provided me more assistance and after hours support (haha) then the lactation consultants at the hospital.
Tonya is truly a blessing and really knows her stuff. I would DEFINITELY recommend her to anyone that is in search of a doula! She performed a miracle with me and I know she can do the same for you!
Tonya Daniel has been the best doula, lactation consultant and friend that I could have ever asked for! I could not have made it through my pregnancy and delivery without her! Even now she is always there for me whenever I have a question or concern about breastfeeding. No matter what I know that she is always a text or phone call away. I absolutely love her and I know everyone else will too! Thank you Mrs Daniel!!!
