Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
I support women regardless of their birth preferences. I support you if you have a planned c-section, medicated birth, or natural birth. I usually labor with you at home and then go to the hospital with you for the birth. I then stay about 2 hours postpartum or until you are ready for me to leave.

Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

I was the co-leader of the Nashville Birth Network from 2013 to 2017 and have also organized the September birth rally for ImprovingBirth.org Nashville since that time. As a leader I am involved with baby fairs, monthly meetings, education, refugee support, hospital policies, and more. For several years I gave back to my community by being a free volunteer doula at Vanderbilt hospital. I am trained as a Baby Loss Family Adviser through Loss Doulas International. For the past several years I have organized the Empower Your Birth Conference to help educate moms on how to plan a better birth. In 2016 I changed the newborn eye ointment law so every family in TN has the option to say yes or no. I am passionate about people being educated and having options. Currently, I am training doulas and speaking at conferences teaching about rebozos and flipping breech babies.

I don't think I could have done it without Rebekah.  She taught me great tricks pre-partum, which I believe kept me from complications.  She supported me throughout labor with coaching, and basically anything I needed.  She was easy going - anything I wanted, she did.  She was supportive to my husband and made him feel like he was a part of it without becoming overwhelmed.  Post partum, she came to visit multiple times, taught me latching techniques for breastfeeding, answered a million questions, and referred me to specialists I requested (such as pelvic floor trainers).  Rebekah even watched my daughter once when I was too exahusted and needed a nap.  In addition, my friend had her as a doula (she referred her to me) and claims she saved her labor by changing the baby's position with stretches as they were about to section her.  She comes with professional and personal experience, as she's had 10 kids herself.  I can't say enough good things about Rebekah.  Having a doula seemed expensive until I saw everything she does, now I think it was a bargain.  She's wonderful, I highly recommend her!

Rebekah Porter was my doula when I was pregnant with my identical twins. While pregnant she offered advice, wisdom, support, and always either had an answer to my questions or knew where I could find the answer. She was invaluable. I am so grateful to her for helping me while I was pregnant.  Unfortunately, I suffered a late miscarriage of the twins due to TTTS. Rebekah then became my loss doula. She came to my house and grieved with my husband and me for three hours the weekend after we first found out. After my surgery, she came to my house again, grieved, brought multiple books for us to read and multiple ideas/suggestions to help us along the grieving process. She called and texted weekly to check on us. She attended a candle-lit memorial service with us. She was just so crucial to our sanity and process during that dark time. She was very human and caring. She came from a place of understanding and compassion. We appreciated every minute she spent with us. Some time after, she helped us figure out/create an in-home memorial to the twins. We treasure it. I don't know if we would have thought to do that without her guidance. In short, she is a life-saver. I am and will forever be grateful for her. She is a very special healer and care-giver. I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you, Rebekah. So much.
