Where to even begin?! I decided to hire a doula because I wanted a natural child birth. What I got was far more than that. I had an amazing and supported pregnancy, a powerful and empowering (and natural!) birth, and the necessary resources (and plently of hugs and love) to get through a particularly challenging post-partum period. I owe all of it to Christy and her partner Jessica.
Christy has this aura about her where you just instantly feel better after having talked to her / been in her presence. She always seemed to know exactly what to say or do to help me through whatever challenge I was facing. In the post-partum days I really struggled with nursing and a fussy baby. Christy was always available to me - helping with latch, talking through my fears that I couldn't nurse or couldn't care for my son, and reminding me that I really can do it (and was doing it!). She provided me knowledge and support to make decisions that worked best for our family. When I started having some very dark days, she was there for me in *all* the ways...and she made sure I knew about any other resources I might need. She made sure that I didn't lose myself in caring for my son and her post-partum support was so invaluable to me.
Christy was also a wealth of support during my pregnancy. She helped me overcome my fears about pregnancy and birth by helping me to believe in my body and the amazing power that it holds. When I expressed worry about my care provider (I was with a large practice that didn't seem to hear my strong desire for a natural birth), she provided the support and resources necessary for me to find a care provider who I absolutely loved. Anytime I had a question or some concern, Christy was there for me with evidence based information and resources to help me find a solution. I cannot recommend her enough!!
PS: I really believe you can tell a lot about someone by their hug..Christy has one of the best ones around!
Working with Christy and her partner was one of the highlights of my 2nd pregnancy/birth/postpartum period. She is incredibly caring, an excellent listener, and made me feel like she ALWAYS had my back, day and night. My husband and I felt that she cared about us in a very genuine way from day one. Christy's experience as a lactation counselor was infinitely helpful. She knew that I had struggled to breastfeed my first child, so she checked in often, guided me through the ups and downs of those first few weeks, and set me up for success. She was able to refer us to specialists who could help with specific issues. I cannot say enough good things about Christy--her positivity and calm were exactly what I needed to feel empowered during my pregnancy and postpartum.
I've struggled to put this into words! I really can't express my gratitude for having Christy as my doula. It was such a moving, humbling experience to have someone by my side who was invested in the journey I was going through when I was pregnant with my second baby. I really recommend hiring a doula to everyone, not only because is it so helpful in terms of discovering and then having the confidence and support to stick to the type of birth you want (having an advocate is SO important) but also because I felt like I was given the opportunity to really lean into this part of my life and not just rush through it like everything else. Pregnancy is special and Christy always made me feel super special.
She has a really amazing gift for connecting to and emphathisizing with other people and is clearly made for this work. I feel like anyone would benefit from the support, kindness, calm and knowledge Christy has to offer. It was the gift of a lifetime. Truly a life-changing experience.
When I describe my childbirth experience to others, I always use the word empowered. I owe that sense of empowerment in part to Christy Douglas's role as my doula. Christy and I had met many times throughout my pregnancy. During our meetings, we got to know each other, and she provided me with a wealth of knowledge. She also just exuded calm and ease. Her calming demeanor helped me to feel at ease during both our meetings and when it came time to deliver my baby. Christy empowered me to trust my own strength and listen to my body. My goal was to have a completely drug-free childbirth, and with her help, I was able to accomplish that goal. Christy has an expansive toolkit for helping women in active labor--both literally and figuratively. Most notably, Christy's presence was defined by love, support, and warmth. Her energy helped me to stay focused and positive in even the hardest moments of labor. In follow-up visits are the birht of my daughter, Christy continued to be great source of support and knowledge, helping with breastfeeding, general baby questions, and giving me a brief respite. I highly recommend Christy Douglas if you are considering a doula as part of your birthplan.
The first time I met Christy, I knew she was the perfect women to help me on my journey through natural child birth. From the very beginning, Christy was supportive, compassionate, and empowering to my wishes and desires. She never once stopped being our cheerleader. She took the time to listen to not only our desired for my birth plan, but also our fears and concerns. As a VBAC candidate, I wasn’t sure natural birth was in my future, but Christy never once doubted my abilities.
The week leading up to labor, I was several days past my due date, contacting Christy on a daily basis. Each time I reached out, she was always calm, and always made me feel like the most important mama in the world, even though she had other clients ready to deliver around the same time.
When I was finally ready to head to the hospital, I called Christy around midnight, and without any hesitation, she guided me on who to call, and when to head to the hospital.
Christy met my husband and I at the entrance of the hospital, and walked slowly with us to L&D stopping for every contraction to help me through. Without me needing to ask, she knew exactly how to comfort me. As the contractions continued, she not only continued to be by my side, she also helped show my husband how he could help and be a part of the birth of our beautiful baby girl. It was without a doubt the most wonderful experience, and I could not have done it without Christy by my side.
Christy Douglas was a great help for me during rough times, being a new mom with no help, she was the only person I could trust with my newborn! She is a baby whisperer! my baby loves her and she was very professional and compassionate with us! I’m not good with words but I highly recommend hiring her.
Christy Douglas was my first experience with a doula and this was my second birth. I didn't know much about doulas, just that I wanted this birth experience to go differently. I cannot speak more highly for her and her services. She provided physical and emotional support and allowed me to have a completely natural childbirth. Christy did not let me quit on myself when the pain got bad. She kept telling me how awesome I was doing. Most importantly she gave me information and helped me find my voice and realize I always had a choice and options when speaking to my medical professionals. If you work with Christy, she will exceed you expectations.
We loved working with Christy and Rose. Christy has a calm take-charge demeanor. We felt very comfortable with her.
Christy met with us before our birth. We talked through our birth plan and she helped us visualize what our birth might be like. We felt like she got to know us well before the birth. Christy visited us the day after our birth in the hospital, brought us razors (which we forgot to pack) and helped with breastfeeding. Following our birth she visited us multiple times at home.
We found that having a doula helped to relax both my husband and myself before, during and after labor and allowed us to enjoy the beauty of such a special time in our lives. Christy’s knowledge and experience allowed us to focus on each other and freed us from the anxiety of feeling unprepared or out of control.
Christy is also a lactation consultant and helped a lot with nursing both in the hospital and at home. This was one area about which I had a lot of questions and anxiety. Christy did a great job of dispelling my fears. Christy was great at answering all of our new parent questions both in person and via text.
I am so grateful for finding Christy Douglas as my birth doula. My husband and I were being relocated to this area from across the country, and we didn't know when we would arrive here. (It ended up being only 5 weeks before my due date, but we were sitting and waiting with the information for 1.5 months.) Since we would not have a support network up here, nor enough time to establish one, we found it especially imperative to find doulas to assist with our birth. I found Christy and her partner who she worked with for my birth from looking online before we ever moved here. They were so gracious, patient, understanding, etc of our crazy situation. It made such a difference choosing to work with them. Since we needed to find a place to give birth, doctors, etc they were at the ready with resources and support to get things lined up ASAP for me. The amount of time, patience, caring, attention and overall support that they gave just astonished my husband and I. Always available - or able to arrange a time to be available - if it was needed. Their presence at the birth was also tremendous. It took a lot of pressure off my husband. I ended up not using a lot of measures I expected to use, which would have involved them more (like massage, or movement, etc), but just having their presence there made SUCH a difference. On top of that, they helped us feel more informed/supported when we needed to advocate for ourselves or make decisions. After birth, their support was still so tremendous. We had a lot of latching issues, and just needing to get set up with different doctors for our child. Learning how to be parents to this new being in our lives! Just general resources as we were on this huge new learning curve!
Evey step of our journey from our move, to preparing for labor, to birth, to post partum, we have never looked back from our choice to hire Christy. It made all the difference for us to have a smooth beginning with minimal stress. We are so grateful.
Christy was amazing. Super supportive all through my pregnancy. She made me feel comfortable from the first time I met her. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to work with her. While I was in labor I was out of my mind and she was solid, unconditional support. I may have crushed her bones while she was holding my hand during the hardest parts but she wasn't fazed at all. We got through almost 24 hours of labor with no intervention, something I couldn't have done without her. After baby she came to my house numerous times and I really benefited from that as I was hormonal and exhausted and definitely needed to hear that what I was feeling was normal and she was proud of me. She didn't care that my house was a disaster by then. We text and spoke often, with her checking in or me asking random questions Even my husband loved her and he was worried when I first said I was going to have a doula that he was getting pushed aside and wouldn't be part of anything. It was the opposite. My husband had more opportunity to be there for me and the baby. I want to shout from the rooftops to anyone having a baby please get a doula. It is worth every little bit. Do whatever you can and call Christy.
My husband and I chose to seek out the help of a doula because as first time parents, we didn’t know what to expect. I wanted to labor at home for as long as I could, have continuity of care between home and hospital and have support for myself and my husband if difficult decisions needed to be made. Christy and Rose were great from the start. The meetings before the birth were extremely helpful to get to know them and when the time came, Christy met us at home and helped me through my second stage of labor. At the hospital, she was a calm, reassuring presence during delivery. She made sure my needs were heard and met and she and my husband were by my side as I delivered my beautiful baby boy. I also appreciated both Rose and Christy during our postpartum visits. Six weeks is a terribly long time before you get to see a doctor again, so having the opportunity to ask questions and listen to their advice about what was next was so helpful. I had difficulty with my milk supply early on and they also helped put me in touch with great resources in the area that I may not have found otherwise. Without a doubt, if/when we have another baby, we will be sure to have Christy and Rose by our side again.
Christy was exactly the support my family and I needed after my twins came home from the hospital. My husband and I were nervous to be first time parents of multiples, so we sought out Christy as our postpartum doula for when they came home. Our twins were also 9 weeks premature, and Christy was there for us as soon as we needed her. They had a lengthy hospital stay before discharge, and she cane to meet them in the hospital first, which felt wonderfully supportive. When they came home, they were still on heart monitors and life was quite stressful, but Christy was calm as could be. Every time Christy was helping me, I felt so at peace and confident. I was scared to be alone with them when they first came home, and Christy helped me grow as a new parent. She always seemed to know exactly what I needed - whether it was emotional support, help with chores, or taking care of both babies so I could take a nap. Even when I felt like I had no idea what I was doing, Christy always helped me know that I was doing a great job. I can't imagine those first few weeks home without her!
As first-time parents hoping for an unmedicated birth, we sought the help of a doula primarily help us labor at home for as long as possible. We received this and much more, and were very satisfied with our decision to hire a doula. We contacted Christy relatively late (33 weeks). Rose was not available, so Christy partnered with another doula (Annie Hayden). We had several pre- and post-natal visits with the pair, as well as a lot of text/email support. They provided helpful articles/information and directed us to great resources. Christy happened to be at another birth as my labor began, so Annie was our doula during the birth. With her reassurance we were able to stay home much longer than I would have been otherwise comfortable with. I arrived at the hospital at 7cm and delivered ~3 hours later without any medication, as we had hoped to. Christy visited the very next day, and provided comfort and invaluable advice in the next few days that helped us get through a period of stressful breastfeeding difficulties. We were pleased with our experience and would certainly recommend Christy's services!
From putting me in touch with prenatal resources to address issues that arose during my third trimester to being constantly available via phone, email, or text, Rose and Christy supported me throughout my entire journey. I felt empowered to listen to my instincts and Rose and Christy backed my decisions during the labor and delivery process. I would highly recommend them.
I had a wonderful experience with Christy. She provided and guidance and care for several months prior to the birth, including attending doctor visits and sending me helpful articles and information. During labor, I took comfort from the fact that Christy was present. Even though my labor was interrupted by an emergency C section, I was very relieved to find Christy waiting for me the minute I entered the recovery room. She stayed with us for several hours following the operation, providing emotional support and company. As I struggled to grapple with the implications of the delivery, Christy paid me several house visits and sent me relevant articles. Overall extremely professional, kind and encouraging.
Christy was a loving, calm presence after the birth of my third baby. She immediately brought order and warmth into the house as I adjusted to my third little one. She was wonderful with my older children, keeping them happy and occupied, and nurtured me with everything from home cooked meals, to a thoughtful bouquet of flowers on my kitchen table, to helpful herbal tonics for post partum healing. I highly recommend her as a post partum doula - if I were to be blessed with another baby, I would hire her again!
